  • This study was mainly conducted to derive the design drought rainfall by the consecutive duration using probability weighted moments with rainfall in the regional drought frequency analysis. Selecting the drought rainfall series by the consecutive durations of drought observed for the long period all over the regions in Korea, optimal regionalization of the drought rainfall was classified by the climatologically and geographically homogeneous regions. Using the L-moment ratio and Kolmogorov- Smimov test, resonable frequency distribution for the drought rainfall was selected by the regions and consecutive periods of drought. Design drought rainfalls by the regions and consecutive durations were derived and compared by at-site and regional drought frequency analysis using the method of L-moments.

  • Polysiphonia pacifica is rhodomelaceous red algal species that includes five varieties in Pacific Ocean: P. pacifica var. delicatula, P. pacifica var. distans, P. pacifica var. determinata, P. pacifica var. disticha, and P. pacifica var. gracilis. We here report morphology and phylogeny of P. pacifica to confirm the relationships among previously described varieties as a loan of type specimens from US and to assess phylogenetic relationships of closely related species using plastid protein-coding rbcL gene. Polysiphonia pacifica is distinguished by having creeping filaments attached by unicellular rhizoids not cut off by cross walls, four pericentral cells, ecorticate, trichoblasts rare, ultimate branchlets attenuate at the tip but not pungent, and tetrasporangia in long straight series in the ultimate branchlets. The protein-coding plastid rbcL gene sequence data show that P. pacifica is distinctly different from the superficially similar species, P. morrowii and P. stricta. However, the rbcL sequences of P. pacifica var. pacifica and var. disticha are identical though they have morphological variation.

  • Stainless steel has widely been used in various industrial fields because it has high corrosion resistance. But, we have little design data about the creep life prediction of SUS316L stainless steel. Therefore, in this study, a series of creep tests and study on them under 16 constant stress and temperature combined conditions have been performed to get the creep design data and life prediction of SUS316L stainless steels and we have gotten the following results. First, the stress exponents decrease as the test temperatures increase. Secondly, the creep activation energy gradually decreases as the stresses become bigger. Thirdly, the constant of Larson-Miller parameters on this alloy is estimated about 10. And last, the creep rupture fractographs show the intergranular ductile fracture with many dimples.

  • A series of biodegradable block copolymers consisting of $poly({\gamma}-benzyl\;L-glutamate)$ (PBLG) and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-lactoselactone were prepared by polymerization of PEO-lactoselactone and ${\gamma}-benzyl$ L-glutamate-N-carboxyanhydride and characterized by IR and NMR. From circular dichroism measurements, it was found that the polymers exist in the ${\alpha}-helical$ conformation. Block copolymer microspheres were prepared by solvent-extraction-precipitation method for their primary evaluation for medical and biological applications.

  • This paper presents the design process for series wound DC motor with the brush by using the experimental data of a tested motor. The design parameters calculated from the experimental data are friction loss. windage loss and contact resistance of brushes. The characteristic analysis of the designed motor is performed and then the proposed method is verified by comparing with experimental result.

  • We have developed facile and rapid polycondensation reactions of N-trimellitylimido-L-leucine diacid chloride 1 with eight different derivatives of hydantoin compounds 2a-h, in the presence of a small amount of a polar organic medium, such as Ο-cresol, by using a domestic microwave oven. The polycondensation reactions proceeded rapidly-they were complete within 7-9 min-to produce a series of novel optically active poly(amide-imide)s (3a-h) in high yield with inherent viscosities of 0.33-0.51 dL/g. We characterized the resulting poly(amide-imide)s by elemental analysis, thermal gravimetric analysis (DSC, TGA, and DTG), and FTIR spectroscopy, and by measuring their viscosities, specific rotations, and solubilities. All of the polymers were soluble at room temperature in polar solvents such as N ,N-dimethylacetamide, N,N-dimethylformamide, dimethylsulfoxide, tetrahydrofuran, and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone.

  • An immunosensor based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) onto a protein G layer by Self-assembly technique was developed for detection of Legionella pneumophila. The protein G layer by self-assembly technique was fabricated on a gold (Au) surface by adsorbing the 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid (MUA) and an activation process for the chemical binding of the free amino (-NH$_2$) of protein G and 11-(MUA) using 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDAC) in series. The formation of the protein G layer by self-assembly technique on the Au Substrate and the binding of the antibody and antigen in series were confirmed by SPR spectroscopy. The Surface topographies of the fabricated thin films on an Au substrate were also analyzed by using an atomic force microscope (AFM). Consequently, an immunosensor for the detection of L. pneumophila using SPR was developed with a detection limit of up to 10$^2$CFU per mL.

  • Let x be an element of a group G and be an automorphism of G. Then for a positive integer n, the autocommutator $[x,_n{\alpha}]$ is defined inductively by $[x,{\alpha}]=x^{-1}x^{\alpha}=x^{-1}{\alpha}(x)$ and $[x,_{n+1}{\alpha}]=[[x,_n{\alpha}],{\alpha}]$. We call the group G to be n-auto-Engel if $[x,_n{\alpha}]=[{\alpha},_nx]=1$ for all $x{\in}G$ and every ${\alpha}{\in}Aut(G)$, where $[{\alpha},x]=[x,{\alpha}]^{-1}$. Also, for any integer $n{\neq}0$, 1, a group G is called an n-auto-Bell group when $[x^n,{\alpha}]=[x,{\alpha}^n]$ for every $x{\in}G$ and each ${\alpha}{\in}Aut(G)$. In this paper, we investigate the properties of such groups and show that if G is an n-auto-Bell group, then the factor group $G/L_3(G)$ has finite exponent dividing 2n(n-1), where $L_3(G)$ is the third term of the upper autocentral series of G. Also, we give some examples and results about n-auto-Bell abelian groups.
