Trifolium resupinatum L. (Fabaceae) is native in Southern Europe and Southwesten Asia. This species is known as a naturalized plant, which is widely distributed in the world. We first found it in the Eushincheon river bank of Jindo Isl., Jeollanam-do, South Korea. T. resupinatum can be easily distinguished from the other species of the same genus by its resupinate flower. The Korean name "Geo-kkul-kkot-to-kki-pul" indicates its distinctive characteristic of flower.
A newly naturalized plant, Viola palmata L., was found in Uljin-gun, Changwon-si, and Yangsan-si. It belongs to the subsect. Boreali-Americanae (W. Becker) Gil-Ad of the sect. Nosphinium W. Becker, which is known to be from North America, with subsequent introduction into Europe. In Korea, this species is considered to have been introduced by freight transportation through the port of Busan, after which its distribution area expanded. We propose the new Korean name 'Chang-won-je-bi-kkot' based on the location at which it was initially collected in Korea. We also provide descriptions of the morphological characters along with photographs, illustrations, and a distribution map of Viola palmata.
A single specimen of Liparis punctulatus (30.9 mm standard length) belonging to the family Liparidae, was collected in the waters off Busan on 4 August, 2016. This species is characterized by a single pair of nostrils, unlike other Liparis species. It is distinguished from L. ochotensis by the numbers of dorsal, anal, pectoral fin rays and the location of the gill opening (above the pectoral fin in L. punctulatus vs. extending ventrally in front of the pectoral fin). In the molecular analysis, 514 bp of 16S rRNA gene of the specimen in this study were identical to that of L. punctulatus from NCBI GenBank (K2P distance < 0.002). This is the first record of the species in Korea based on a voucher specimen, and we follow the Korean name "Kko-ma-kkom-chi" for this species proposed by Myoung et al. and Kim et al.
Ulmus davidiana var. japonica Rehder (Urticales: Ulmaceae) (UD) is a tree widespread in northeast Asia. It is traditionally used for anticancer and anti-inflammatory therapy. The present study investigated the effect of an ethanol extract of UD on vascular tension and its underlying mechanism in rats. The dried root bark of UD was ground and extracted with 80% ethanol. The prepared UD extract was used in further analysis. The effect of UD on the cell viability, vasoreactivity and hemodynamics were investigated using propidium iodide staining in cultured cells, isometric tension recording and blood pressure analysis, respectively. Low dose of UD ($10{\sim}100{\mu}g/ml)$ did not affect endothelial cell viability, but high dose of UD reduced cell viability. UD induced vasorelaxation in the range of $0.1{\sim}10{\mu}g/ml$ with an $ED_{50}$ value of $2{\mu}g/ml$. UD-induced vasorelaxation was completely abolished by removal of the endothelium or by pre-treatment with L-NAME, an inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase. UD inhibited calcium influx induced by phenylephrine and high $K^+$ and also completely abolished the effect of L-NAME. Intravenous injection of UD extracts (10~100 mg/kg) decreased arterial and ventricular pressure in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, UD extracts reduced the ventricular contractility (+dP/dt) in anesthetized rats. However, UD-induced hypotensive actions were minimized in L-NAME-treated rats. Taken together, out results showed that UD induced vasorelaxation and has antihypertensive properties, which may be due the activation of nitric oxide synthase in endothelium.
This study was performed to investigate the mechanism of cerebral blood flow of adenosine $A_{2B}$ receptor agonist in the rats, and to define whether its mechanism is mediated by nitric oxide (NO) and guanylate cyclase. In pentobarbital-anesthetized, pancuronium-paralyzed and artificially ventilated male Sprague-Dawley rats, all drugs were applied topically to the cerebral cortex. Blood flow from cerebral cortex was measured using laser-doppler flowmetry. Topical application of an adenosine $A_{2B}$ receptor agonist, 5'-N-ethylcar-boxamidoadenosine (NECA; $4{\mu}mol/l$) increased cerebral blood flow. This effect of NECA ($4{\mu}mol/l$) was blocked by pretreatment with NO synthase inhibitor, $N^G$-nitro-L-argine methvlester (L-NAME; $40{\mu}mol/l$) and guanylate cyclase inhibitor, LY-83,583 ($10{\mu}mol/l$). These results suggest that adenosine $A_{2B}$ receptor increases cerebral blood flow. It seems that this action of adenosine $A_{2B}$ receptor is mediated via the NO and the activation of guanylate cyclase in the cerebral cortex of the rats.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether nitric oxide is involved in the extracellular killing of Trichomoncs uasinalis by mouse (BALB/c) peritoneal macrophages and RAW264.7 cells activated with LPS or rIFN-γ and also to observe the effects of various chemicals which affect the production of reactive nitrogen intermediates (RNl) in the cytotoxicity against T. vnginnlis. The cytotoxicity was measured by counting the release of (3H)-thymidine from labelled protozoa and NOa was assayed by Griess reaction. Nemonomethyl-L-arginine (L-NMHA), Nenitro-L-arginine methyl ester (NAME) and arginase inhibited cytotoxicity to T. vaginnlis and nitrite production by activated mouse perioneal macrophagrs and RAW 264.7 cells. The addition of excess L-arginine competitively restored trichomonacidal activity of macrophages. Exogenous addition of FeSO4 inhibited cytotoxicity to T. vaginaLis and nitric products of macrophages. From above results, it is assumed that nitric oxide plays an important role in the host defense mechanism of macrophages against T ucfinalis.
The neurogenic responses of tracheal smooth muscles to electrical field stimulation (EFS) is biphasic, consisting firstly of cholinergic contraction followed by a slow and sustained relaxation. It is well known that a sustained relaxation involves the inhibitory non-adrenergic non-cholinergic systems. This study was done to Investigate the relaxing agents and their action mechanisms by use of an organ bath with plati- ilum . The tracheal smooth muscle relaxation due to EFS was suppressed by L-NAME, the WO (Nitric Oxide) synthase inhibitor, and these effects were reversed by L-arginine, the precursor of NO. Also, L-WAME (HG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester) increased the basal tension. Nitroprusside, the NO-donor, suppressed the tracheal basal tension greatly. Methylene blue, the inhibitor of guanylate cyclase, decreased EFS-induced relaxations and increa ed basal tension. Forskolin and isoprenaline, which are activators of adenylate cyclase, suppressed tracheal basal tension in the same way as nitroprusside. TEA (tetraethylammonium), the non-specific K'channel blocker, and apamin, the Ca"-activated K'channel blocker, increased tracheal basal tension and EFS-induced relaxations. Our results indicate that Pr3 Is released upon stimulation of the NANC (Won Adrenergic Won Cholinergic) nerves in guinea-pig tracheal smooth muscle and that the release of NO related with the K+ channel, as well as the release of other inhibitory agents< e. g.)VIP (Vasoactive Intestinal Polypeptide), PHI (Peptide Histidine Isoleusine) > mediated via CAMP (cyclic Adenosine Monophosphate) may be Involved In sustained relaxation.

T. Nakai, who wrote Flora of Koreana vol. II in 1911, cited V. L. Komarov's collections and listed more than 120 specimens with ca. 65 localities. All collection sites cited were described in the Romanized characters based on the Russian pronunciation. Therefore, it is very difficult to pinpoint those sites using the current or old version of Korean map. From this study, many names were reviewed based on other studies (both the Russian version and the Japanese translated version) and records (e.g. specimen label) and presented based on the current provinces with local names, the Chinese character, the GPS data and the first page of citation.

Nitric oxide(NO) synthase was identified and characterized by determining the L-citrulline formed in the NO-Arg pathway in pancreatic tissues. NO synthase activities in chicken pancreas were dependent upon the concentration of L-Arg which is the substrate molecule for the NO synthase, the amount of the enzyme protein used, and linearly on the incubation time. NO synthase in mouse pancreas was found to be constitutive, not induced by lipopolysaccharide treatment. In vitro NO synthase activities of chicken pancreas were inhibited 36%, 21%, 12% and 44% by $200\;{\mu}M$ of MMA, DMA, D'MA and NAME respectively. These results suggest the presence of NO and NO synthase in the pancreas.
