The present work was conducted to examine the effect of tobacco smoke solution, and its components such as nicotine and catechol treated separately on the root tip cells of Allium cepa L The mitotic abnormalities in root tip cells treated with those three components were increased linearly, while the mitotic index was decreased following concentrations of the components. Chromosomal abnormalities showed 29.7%, 15.8% and 13.0% in the treatment of tobacco smoke solution, nicotine, and catechol, respectively. The abonormalities were included polyploid, c-mitosis, stickness at metaphase, laggard, bridge formation at anaphase or telophase, and micronucleus, abnormal nucleus at interphase, after the treatment of the components for 24 hours. hours.

This study deals with the modulation index (MI) of a voltage source converter (VSC) HVDC system based on a modular multilevel converter (MMC). In the two-level converter, the purpose of the MI is to maximize the achievable AC voltage of the converter from a fixed DC voltage. Unlike that in a two-level converter, the MI in the MMC topology plays a role in making the converter a voltage source using a capacitor. The circulating current in the MMC distorts the AC voltage reference, and the distortion affects the MI. In addition, the AC network conditions, such as AC voltage variation and reactive power, affect the MI. Therefore, the MI should be optimized with consideration of internal and external factors. This study proposes a method to optimize the MI of an MMC HVDC system.

A serum-free media for CRIP/MFG-LacZ retrovirus production was developed and applied to continuous packed-bed culture system. The serum-free media developed by fractional factorial design contains indulin ($10\mug/mL$), transferrin ($5\mug/mL$), BSA (4 mg/mL), EGF (25 ng/mL), and linoleic acid ($10\mug/mL$). Operation of continuous packed-bed reactor using Fibra-cel enabled the packging cell to stably maintain retrovirus titer for about 1 week. The optimal operation conditions for dilution rate and temperature were 0.67(h(sup)-1) and $32^{circ}C$, respectively. Using this media, the retrovirus titer(cfu/mL) in the packed continuous culture was about 50% that of continuous culture with serum containing DMEM media.

A hybrid precast concrete beam system with a simple rigid connection was proposed to compensate the limitations and shortcomings of the conventional bolt connection associated with the H-beams embedded into concrete beams. Three beam specimens with fixed both ends were tested under one-point top cyclic loading to explore the effectiveness of the developed hybrid beam system in transferring externally applied flexure to a column. The main parameter considered was the length ($L_s$) of H-beam, which was selected to be $0.25L_I$, $0.5L_I$, and $1.0L_I$, where $L_I$ is the distance from the support to the point of inflection. All beam specimens showed a better displacement ductility ratio than the reinforced concrete beams with the same longitudinal reinforcement index, indicating that the cyclic load-deflection curve and ductility were insignificantly affected by $L_s$. The continuous strain distribution along the beam length and the prediction of the ultimate load based on the collapse mechanism ascertained the structural adequacy of the developed rigid connection.

Purpose: This study was performed to observe the correlation between Hot flush and pulse wave velocity(PWV), ankle brachial index(ABI) in the Climacteric women. Methods: We studied 63 climacteric women visiting OO hospital from 8th January 2007 to 22nd April 2009. The subjects were categorized in two groups, the hot flush group(37) and normal group(26). For the study, the subjects were selected by excluding the patients who receive treatment affect hot flush or have disease affect arterial states. We assessed PWV and ABI of two groups by Oscillometric method using VS-1000(Form PWV/ABI; Fukuda Denshi, Co., Ltd., Japan). From these results, we studied the correlation between hot flush and PWV/ABI by Wilcoxon Mann Whitney Test. Results: 1. It is shown that hot flush group was no significant correlation with normal group. There is no significant factor among R-PWV, L-PWV, R-ABI, L-ABI. However, L-ABI have shown relatively higher correlation with comparison to the other factors.(p-value<0.05) 2. R-PWV, L-PWV significantly increased in menopause group than in premenopause group though there is no relation to the hot flush. (p-value<0.01) Conclusion: Though the results showed no correlations between Hot flush and PWV/ABI in the Climacteric women, L-ABI showed relatively higher correlation with hot flush than others. R-PWV, L-PWV showed significant correlation between premenopause and menopause.

Research on the acoustic properties of fish has been carried out by a number of scientific workers from the earliest days of applying acoustic techniques to fish biomass estimates. This paper describes measurements of the target strength of Cyprinus Carpio, which measurements made at 50KHz in the experimental water tank. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The target strength(dB) of the fish has a directivity pattern quite similar to that of a transducer. The maximum value of target strength(dB) is obtained when the fish is insonified to its head-tail axis either from the dorsal or from the ventral side. 2. Empirical relationship between target strength(dB) and body length(cm) of the fish can be estimated as TS=20 Log L-65.4 where TS is the target strength of the fish and L is the body length of the fish. 3. The relationship between target strength(dB) and body weight(g) of the fish can be estimated as TS=6.7 Log W-53.7 where W is body weight of the fish.

This study was carried out to determine the adsorption characteristics of eight pesticides on thirty citrus orchard soil so soil samples were taken from nineteen soil series containing different fractions of organic carbon(Foc). The adsorption characteristics for eight pesticides fitted to Freundlich isotherms. The adsorption isotherms showed C-type for alachlor and chlorpyrifos, L-type for linuron and diniconazole. and S, C, and L-types for metribuzin, metolachlor, and alachlor with increasing Foc, respectively. In particular, the adsorption of chlorothalonil showed S, C, L, and H-types with increasing Foc. Distribution coefficient(Kd) values of metribuzin, metolachlor, and alachlor were below $10\;Lkg^{-1}$ and increased linearly with Foc. Kd values of linuron, diuron and chlorothalonil increased exponentially to 60, 200, and $400\;Lkg^{-1}$, respectively and those of diniconazole and chlorpyrifos increased logarithmically. Kf value. Freundlich adsorption coefficiient, increased with Kd in the same manner with Kd. Furthermore, the linearity of Kf value was larger than that of Kd value.

Spathiphyllum floribundum cv. Cupid was micropropagated on LS medium containing various growth regulators. Shoot tips were cultured on media with different concentrations of thidiazuron (TDZ) or banzyladenine (BA). The medium containing 2.0 mg/L BA was most effective on the shoot multiplication and the formation of adventitious multi-shoot cluster from shoot tips among the different concentrations of TDZ and BA. The combined treatments of BA and paclobutrazol (PBZ) were stimulated the shoot multiplication and the formation of adventitious mu]ti-shoot clusters from shoot tips compared to the ones of BA alone. The adventitious multi-shoot clusters were culled with 5∼7 mm in size and cultured on media with BA or thidiazuron (TDZ). Shoot multiplication and shoot cluster proliferation from the shoot clusters were very favorable on media supplemented with 2.0∼3.0 mg/L BA. The shoots grew and rooted out vigorously on media with 2.0∼3.0 mg/L IBA. The rooted plantlets were acclimatized in the soil mixed with a rate of vermiculite 1 and perlite 1, and survived more than 95% in greenhouse.

There are worldwidely rising interests in food cluster as it has been perceived as a strategy for improving the competitiveness of food industry. This paper examines the potential of food industry at Gyeongsangnam-do for a regional clustering in terms of five cluster indices. These indices include the absolute size, the relative size of food industry, the level of its concentration, specialization, and market power exertion as an industrial cluster. The result shows that food industry at Gyeongsangnam-do has a potential for a regional clustering.

It was to test the stimulability of cosmetic which contains scalp extracted Leuconostoc mesenteroides when it's patched to skin and to investigate safety when it's used as skincare products. Scalp toner that contains L. mesenteroides extracts 1%, and PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil 0.6% was made and also scalp lotion containing L. mesenteroides extract 3%, Glyceryl Stearate 0.7%. Through the stimulant test of each toner and lotion by patch-testing 32 and 33 participants' backs, safety was verified by the result. Considering the result of antioxidant, anti-allergic, and anti-inflammatory properties of L. mesenteroids reported in previous studies, cosmetics containing these are safe for skin at low concentrations and worth for furthur research as non-stimmulative when used at other cosmetics.
