The effect of geochemical characteristics and environmental factors on the growth of cultured Arkshell Scapharca broughtonii at several shellfish-farming bays on the South coast of Korea (남해 연안 피조개 (Scapharca broughtonii) 양식장의 환경특성)

  • To assess the effects of environmental factors on the sustainability of cultured ark shell Scapharca broughtonii production, we investigated the habitat characteristics of shellfish-farming bays (Gangjin Bay, Yeoja Bay, Keoje Bay and Deukryang Bay). We measured the physiochemical parameters (temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, chemical oxygen demand and Chlorophyll a) and the geochemical characteristics (chemical oxygen demand, ignition loss, C/N ratio and C/S ratio). Surface sediments were collected from several shellfish-farming bays to examine the geochemical characteristics of both the benthic environment and heavy metal pollution. The grain sizes for Gangjin Bay, Yeoja Bay and Keoje Bay were similar, at the ratio of silt and clay in comparison with Deukryang bay of it. The C/N ratio was more than 5.9, reflecting the range arising from the mix of marine organisms and organic matter. The C/S ratio (more than 4.2) showed that the survey area had anoxic or sub-anoxic bottom conditions. The index of accumulation rate (Igeo) of the metals showed that those research areas can be classified as heavily polluted, heavily to moderately polluted, or more or less unpolluted, respectively. We suggested that the growth of ark shell Scapharca broughtonii in the shellfish-farming bay was effected by the various environmental conditions.

Physicochemical and sensory characteristics of cookies with added purple kohlrabi powder (자색 콜라비 분말을 첨가한 쿠키의 이화학적 및 관능특성)

  • In this study, the quality characteristics of cookies with added purple kohlrabi (Brassica oleracea var. gongylodes) powder were investigated and analyzed through chemical and sensory evaluation. Samples were prepared with different levels (0, 1, 3, and 5%) of freeze-dried kohlrabi powder. The addition of Kolarbi powder decreased the moisture and fat contents, but the ash content was significantly increased (p<0.05). The pH and density of the cookie dough decreased significantly with the increasing levels of kohlrabi powder added (p<0.05). The spread ratio of the cookies generally decreased as more kohlrabi powder was added, but the decrease was not statistically significant. The hardness of the cookies increased significantly, however, with the increasing levels of kohlrabi powder added (p<0.05). The Hunter's color L, a, and b values significantly decreased with increasing kohlrabi powder compared to those of the control (p<0.05). In the sensory evaluation, the cookies to which 3 and 5% kohlrabi powder were added showed remarkably higher values for color, taste and appearance. These results suggest that purple kohlrabi powder is a good ingredient for improving the sensory and quality characteristics of cookies.

  • Water line은 UV 처리된 호스의 내부에 압력보상 기능이 첨부된 경질의 미로 튜브를 끼워 사용하도록 제작되어 있다. 점적 호스의 외경은 15.8mm이며 대부분 0.5~2.5bar 사이의 압력에 1.5~3.0 L/hr의 유량을 공급한다. 따라서 전적 호스의 내부에 위치한 경질 미로 튜브의 설계는 유량의 압력보상에 밀접한 관계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 경질 미로 튜브를 통과하는 작은 돌기의 수가 압력과 유량에 어떤 영향을 미치는지에 대한 기초적인 실험을 수행하였으며 경질 미로의 압력과 유량 특성에 따른 이론적 해석과의 비교분석을 통하여 새로운 미로의 형상 설계에 활용할 기초적 연구를 수행하고자 하였다. 점적 호스의 성능은 길이(보통 300~400m)에 대한 유량의 균등성을 유지하는 것이며 균등성은 압력보상에 의해 이루어진다. 원통형 미로는 점적 호스의 내부에 삽입되어 원통 부분에 형성된 미로의 길이에 따른 유량의 균등성을 유지하도록 설계되어 있다. 점적 호스의 원통 주변에는 8개의 미로로 구성되어 있으며 미로의 길이를 금속 평면으로 금형 제작하여 투명판에서 미로의 형상을 보이게 하였다. 또한 입구부분에 물을 공급하고 미로의 각 위치별 배출구를 설치하여 압력에 따른 유출량을 전자저울에 측정하여 압력별 유량의 균등성에 대한 데이터를 측정하였다. 유입구의 압력을 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.0bar로 각각 공급하였으며 유출량은 미로의 8개 구간에 따라 측정하였다. 경질 미로의 유출량은 미로의 길이가 짧을수록, 압력이 커질수록 유출량이 높게 나타났다. 또한 미로의 길이가 짧을 경우에는 유출량의 차이가 비교적 크게 나타났으나 미로의 길이가 길수록 압력에 대한 유출량에 대한 차이가 크지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 경질 미로에서 미로의 길이를 길게 할 경우에는 유출량을 비교적 균일하게 할 수 있음을 보여주고 있다. 반면에 미로의 길이가 길어질수록 압력변화에 따른 유출량이 지수적으로 감소함을 나타내고 있다. 미로의 길이가 7번과 8번에서는 상당히 균일한 성능을 보여주므로 경질 미로의 배출구를 전체적으로 모두 활용함으로써 압력보상을 비교적 균일하게 할 수 있음을 보여주고 있다. 압력보상은 탄성을 가진 실리콘과 미로로 구성될 경우에 가장 큰 효과를 나타내지만 점적 호스와 같이 경질 미로만으로 압력보상을 해야 할 경우에는 경질 미로의 길이가 매우 중요하다.

A Study on the Fertilizing Effect of Swine Fermentation Liquid Manures under the Hydroponics (양돈분뇨의 양액재배용 비효 연구)

  • The present study investigated the possibility of applying the fermented swine liquid manure handled with TAO system to hydroponic cultivation. The fermented swine liquid manure (FLM) used for the study was in low concentration of phosphoric acid (P). Hence, when doing hydroponic cultivation, the concentration of P and K was supplemented. The concentrations of N, P, and K in compensated FLMs were as fellows; (a) N 58mg/1, P 0.5mg/1 and K 31 mg/1 for FLM-1, (b) N 58mg/1, P 31 mg/l and K 39mg/1 for FLM-2, and (c) N 58mg/1, P 31 mg/1 and K 61 mg/1 for FLM-3, respectively. For hydroponic cultivation, it was possible to use diluted solution by 100 times through experiment of germination index. According to the experiment using lettuce, the compensated FLMs with P and K were superior in leaf width, yield and dry weight to FLM without any treatment. Therefore, it is necessary to supplement some nutrition before applying. In conclusion, it is highly estimated that the fermented swine liquid manure can be ap-plied to hydroponic cultivation. It is also necessary to conduct further researches related to nutritional compensation depending on the vegetables.

  • Experiments were conducted to find out the labor saving efficiency and optimum seeding rate and fertilizer level when newly invented Barley Rotor Caster was used in wheat sowing on paddy field. It decreased the labor for sowing by 66~77% compared with conventional sowing method. And the optimum. seeding rate was considered to be approximately 20$\ell$Q per 10a in standard fertilizer level and optimum fertilizer level to be 18-12-12kg/10a, $N-P_2O_5-K_2O$ respectively.

Effect of Mulberry Extract Complex on Degenerative Arthritis In Vivo Models (In Vivo 실험모델에서 오디추출복합물의 퇴행성관절염 개선 효능 연구)

  • The objective of this research was to investigate the in vivo effects of treatment with mulberry extract complex (MEC) on cartilage degeneration and pain severity in an experimental model of rat degenerative arthritis. Monosodium iodoacetate ($2mg/50{\mu}L$) was injected into right knee joints of rats, followed by administration of MEC for 8 weeks at 400 mg/kg or 800 mg/kg of body weight. The experimental data show that treatment with MEC inhibited degradation of glycosaminoglycan and collagen in cartilage. On the other hand, concentrations of cartilage oligomeric matrix protein, C-terminal telopeptide-2, matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2, MMP-9, and MMP-13 in serum decreased in comparison with the control. The MEC at all dose levels could inhibit formation of xylene-induced ear edema. In this study, MEC demonstrated significant anti-arthritis activity, which is required for improvement of degenerative arthritis. Based on these results, MEC may be employed for the development of new health foods to ease symptoms of degenerative arthritis.

Community Ecological Characteristics of Juniperus chinensis L. Forest in South Korea (남한지역 향나무림의 군락생태학적 특성)

  • Juniperus chinensis forest were classified into 1 community group, 2 communities, 4 groups, 6 subgroups, and 7 vegetation units by phytosociological analysis(the method of ZM schools) with 79 vegetation data in south korea. By NMS analysis it appeared at first axis (13.8%) and second axis (69%) and comprehensive explanatory power was 31%. It was shown clearly in Donggang region, the East sea region and the Ulleungdo region. In INSPAN(Indicator species Analysis) of vegetation unit, 89 species were analyzed significantly. According to result of species diversity, evenness, dominance value, interspecific-competition and other related analyses for vegetation unit, the species diversity of vegetation unit 4 showed the lowest value 0.667, while the value of vegetation unit 6 showed the highest value 1.174. The dominance value of vegetation unit 7 showed the lowest value 0.163 and most vegetation units are on about 0.7, while the value of vegetation unit 1 showed highly above 0.8.

Rheological Properties of Calrose Rice and Effect of Thawing Methods on Quality Characteristics of Frozen Turmeric Rice (칼로스 쌀의 유변학적 특성과 이로 제조된 냉동 강황밥의 해동방법에 따른 품질특성 변화)

  • This study investigated the rheological properties of Calrose rice flour dispersions as well as the effects of different thawing methods (steamer, smart oven, and microwave oven) on quality characteristics of frozen turmeric rice. Apparent viscosity, consistency index, and yield stress significantly increased at higher rice flour concentrations. Magnitudes of storage modulus and loss modulus significantly increased with elevation of rice flour concentration. Frozen turmeric rice thawed using a steamer had the highest moisture content and largest size (length, width, and thickness) among all thawing methods. The L values of turmeric rice after thawing using a steamer was significantly higher than those of other thawing methods. The a value of turmeric rice after thawing using a steamer was significantly lower than those of other thawing methods. Textural properties (hardness, adhesiveness, springiness, cohesiveness, brittleness, and chewiness) of frozen turmeric rice after thawing using a steamer were significantly lower than those of other thawing methods. Therefore, it can be concluded that frozen turmeric rice after thawing using a steamer might be desirable for improvement of texture.

Water Use Efficiency in Rice(Oryza sativa L.) Plant Canopy (벼 군락(群落)의 생육시기별(生育時期別) 물 이용(利用) 효율(效率)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • This experiment was carried out to clarify the evapotranspiration and water use efficiency in rice plant canopy. Two rice cultivars, Daechungbyo(japonica type) and Samgangbyo(Tongil) were planted on the field of Suwon Weather Forecast Station in 1989. Evapotranspiration, dry matter production and leaf area of rice plant were measured to investigate the water use efficiency. There was significant correlation between cumulative evapotranspiration and dry matter production of aboveground. The parameter of linear regression was 4.13. The ratio of cumulative top dry matter production per cumulative evapotranspiration was increased until $5.5{\sim}5.9$ leaf area index. The de Wit's "m" value revealed maximum record at heading-flowering stage. At the harvest, the values were ranged from 175.5 to 191.7. The parameter of cumulative solar radiation to dry matter production was $1.011{\sim}1.248$. The evapotranspiration ratio(g.water/g.DW) of Samgangbyo(278) was higher than that of Daechungbyo (299.9). The efficiency of evapotranspiration(g.DW/g. water) was 1.58 in Daechungbyo and 1.98 in Samgangbyo.

Effect of Planting Densities on Growth and Yield of Fresh Waxy Corn as Second Crop (2기작재배시 후기작 재식밀도에 따른 식용 풋찰옥수수의 생육 및 수량)

  • Double cropping is important for increase of farm income and rate of arable land utilization. This study was carried out to obtain information for optimum plant density of the second crop in a double cropping system. A waxy corn hybrid, Chalok #2, was sown on July 10 at the first corn cropping site. Growth characteristics and yield response of fresh waxy corn were examined under different planting densities, which were 55.5, 66.6, 83.3, and 111.1 thousands plants ${ha}^{-1}$. Plant height was higher under high planting density than low planting density and 154cm at the 55.5 thousand plants ${ha}^{-1}$, and 168cm at the 111.1 thousand plant ${ha}^{-1}$. It showed same trends in ear height and gravity center height. But planting density did not affect root lodging and silking date. At the silking stage, stalk and leaf dry matter weight and leaf area index (LAI) were increased significantly with increasing planting density, Filled ear lengtg was shortened significantly under the hi임est planting density (111.1 thousand plants ${ha}^{-1}$), while ear length and ear diameter were no differences among planting densities. The number of marketable ears increased with increasing planting density, but husked fresh ear weight was the highest at 83.3 thousand plants ${ha}^{-1}$ with 11.2MT ${ha}^{-1}$and optimum planting density was estimated as about 80 thousand plants ${ha}^{-1}$.
