  • Edge is one of the primitive features of an image and is widely used in image classification and analysis. New edge extration methods using central moments are presented and show various characteristics according to the order of moment, definition of both random variables and probability density functions. The proposed methods use the integral of differences between local mean and pixels in the window whereas most of conventional edge operators use only differential concepts. This gives good noise immunity and extracts fine edges.

  • In order to understand the delamination between leadframe and epoxy molding compound in an electronic packaging of surface mounting type, the stress intensity factor, T-stress and J-integral in fracture mechanics are obtained. The effects of geometry, material properties and molding process temperature on the delamination are investigated taking into account the temperature dependence of the material properties, which simulates as more realistic condition. As the crack length increases the J-integral increases, which suggest that the crack propagates if it starts growing from the small size. The effects of the material properties and molding process temperature on stress intensity factor, T-stress is and J-integral are less significant than the chip size for the practical cases considered here. The T-stress is negative in all eases, which is in agreement with observation that interfacial crack is not kinked until the crack approaches the edge of the leadframe.

  • Using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique, we simulated the fluid flow in a Taylor reactor considering the aggregation and breakage of particles. We calculated the population balance equation (PBE) to determine the particle-size distribution by implementing the quadrature method-of-moment (QMOM). It was used that six moments for an initial moments, the sum of Brownian kernel and turbulent kernel for aggregation kernel, and power-law kernel for breakage kernel. We predicted the final mean particle size when the particle had various initial volume fraction values. The result showed that the mean particle size and initial growth rate increased as the initial volume fraction of the particle increased.

  • An improved version of current-regulated delta modulator (CRDM) is investigated for the output cunent control of v voltage-source inverters that have transformer-coupled series resonant load and are operated at the resonant frequency. Conventional CRDM has not only CUlTent offset problem but also transformer flux saturation problem when i it is applied to induction heating systems that have transformel-coupled loads. To cope with these problems, the effect of flux saturation is analysed, and simple method to av이d the problem is proposed. And integral type of CRDM is a adopted to remove the cunent offset. The boundaries of integrator gain for stable operation is calculated using the c concept of sliding mode controL The validity of proposed strategy is vel퍼ed through simulations and prototype e experiments.

  • In the present work Einstein's(l942) suspended load equation IS refined in vanous aspects. After checking the flow characteristics a new method is presented for the estimation of zero velocity point at the condition of smooth turbulent flow, and non-dimensional number of suspended load is introduced for the clear representation of suspended load equation. And a recent equation of bed load is employed in order to calculate accurately the sediment concentration at a reference point. Several approximation equations are also developed to compute directly or explicitly two integrals introduced in the equations. The refined equation has been tested against the measurement data collected by Brownlie(l981) in comparison with Einstein's original equation.uation.

  • This paper presents leakage magnetic field and leakage inductance calculations in current transformer by means of 3-D Integral methods. From the distribution diagram of leakage magnetic flux to be analyzed using program called TRACAL3, it confirms a parallel to the winding axis direction of the leakage flux lines in the air gap between the windings. The leakage inductances L$\sub$r1/ and L$\sub$R2/ of the primary and secondary windings were calculated, their values are 4.23 mH and 0.49 mH, respectively. They are also similar to the measured values of the leakage inductances for the experimental verification, 4.06 mH and 0.47 mH.

  • Optical interconnections are more attractive than electronic interconnections because of their higher speed, freedom from planar constraints, immunity to electromagnetic interference effects and higher interconnection capacity. Volume hologram is one of the best way to implement optical interconnections. Diffraction efficiency and crosstalk effect are very important things for ensuring independent interconnections. Recently, a general systematic method that can handle a large number of superposed volume gratings in anisotropic host material is presented. In this study for numerical analysis of diffraction, above method is programmed in general form near Bragg angle. Diffraction orders for variation of grating strength are determined by comparing with the coupled-mode method. The effects of parameter variation are considered. Parameters include vertical and azimuthal incident angle, wavelength and interaction length. Diffraction analyses are also performed for intra-mode and inter-mode diffractions.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive time-delayed control approach with the integral sliding-mode surface for the fast convergence rate of robot manipulators. Adaptive switching gain aims to guarantee the system stability in such a way as to suppress time-delayed estimation error in the proposed control approach. Moreover, it makes an effort to increase the convergence ability in reaching the phase. An integral sliding-mode surface is employed to achieve a fast convergence rate in the sliding phase. The stability of the proposed one is proved to be asymptotically stable in the Lyapunov stability. The efficiency of the proposed control approach is illustrated with a tutorial example in robot manipulator, which is compared to that of the existing control approach.
