  • Although Jaesil are historical products which is related to our traditional culture, they have not been studied extensively. This study deals with the location and the spacial compositional characteristics of Jaesil, a traditional building special functions in culture. The summarized results are as follows : 1) Jaesil wee constructed in 15c~20c. Jaesil in Kyungpook province were built by the intelligent classes in 17c~18c, while Jaesil in Kyungnam province were built by the rich farmer classes with economic power in 19c~20c. 2) The functions of Jaesil were the following : It was used for the purpose of worship, school, temple. The main function in Kyungpook province was worship, while the main functions in Kyungnam province were worship and school. 3) The relationship between Jaesil and villages were as follows : Jaesil in Kyungpook were located in the mountains apart from villages and their main elements of landscape were valleys or rivers . While Jaesil in Kyungnam was located in the residental spaces and their main elements of landscape were an artificial pond or no water landscape. 4) The plane form of Jaesil, Which was constructed specially 'The ㅁtype' of Jaesil were common in Kyungpook province and tis type expresses the enclosure and centrifugal force. While 'The 一type and 二type' were common in Kyungnam, and this types expresses the poenness and practicality.

  • A syntaxonomical study about coastal sand dune vegetation in Kyungpook province was carried out. This study was accomplished by the methods of classical block-structure seeking and had-sorting of the $Z\"{u}rich-Montpellier$ School. The main purpose of this study is to clarify the syntaxonomical, synecological, syngeographical and syndynamical characteristics of coastal sand dune vegetation in Kyungpook province. The dune shrubs communities in Kyungpook province are consisted of 2 communities: Vitex rotundifolia community of southern type and Rosa rugosa community of northern type. And the dune grasslands communities are also consisted of 2 communities: Elymo-Caricetum kobomugi Ohba, miyawaki et $T\"{u}xen$ 1973 and carex kobomugi typical community. The subsidiary knowledges from this study will make possible to accumulate qualitative and quantitative information in the distribution pattern of coastal sand dune vegetation, and also will provide practical information for national biodiversity and conservation of coastal ecosystem.ecosystem.

  • There is clear difference in content of the major and trace elements between Masan granites of Cu province and Yucheon-Eonyang granites of Pb-Zn province in the Yucheon Basin: the former has low content in K(2.08%), Na(2.42%) and Rb (127ppm), and high content in Ca(3.75%), Mg(1.42%) and Sr(304ppm) whereas the latter has high content in K(3.56-3.60%), Na(3.05-3.06%) and Rb(144-161ppm), and low content in Ca(0.62-0.96), Mg(0.21-0.26%) and Sr(136-157ppm). Ore metals in granites also show slight difference between two areas: Masan granites have slightly higher Cu content(18ppm) than Yucheon-Eonyang granites(13, 14ppm), whereas Yucheon granite(29ppm) has slightly higher Pb content than Masan granites(25ppm). Thus, it may be possible to apply geochemical difference of the granites to distinguish whether a Cretaceous granite mass is related to copper or lead-zinc mineralization, and whether it belongs Cu-province or Pb-Zn province in the Yucheon Basin.

  • Weed species investigated along the waterway of Kyungnam and Kyungpook provinces on September, 1989 were 88 species in 33 families and 96 species in 33 families, respectively. Three weed community types were observed along the waterway of Kyungnam province, namely, Echiuochoa cars-galli, Persicaria hydropiper and Persicaria thunbergii, and five community types such as Humulus japonicus-bideus froudosa, Solanum nigrum, Persicaria thunbergii-Humulus japonicus, Humulus japonicus and Persicaria thunbergii were detected along the waterway of Kyungpook province. The most dominant weed species indentified along the waterways in both Kyungnam and Kyungpook provinces were Pensicaria tlrutrheagii and Persicaria hydropiper which are the aquatic weed species.

  • The Cretaceous granitic rocks show differences in rock types and chemical compositions according to metallogenic provinces of copper, lead zinc and molybdenum in the Gyeongsang basin. Jindong granites are of granodiorite~quartz diorite~diorite in Cu-province; Makeunsan/Yucheon-Eonyang granites, granodiorite~granite in Pb Zn-province; Onjeongri-Yeonghae granites, granodiorite~quartz diorite in Mo-province, and there is a trend that productive masses are less differenciated than barren masses in Cu and Pb-Zn provinces whereas productive masses are more differenciated than barren masses in Mo province. Metallogenic provinces are distinguishable by variations of major and trace elements. The Cretaceous granitic rocks are highest in the content of Ca, Mg and other basic major elements and lowest in the content of K and Na in Cu provicne; the variation trends are vice versa in Pb-Zn province. Trace elements such as Rb and Sr show variations related to K and Ca, and metallogenic provinces are also distinguishable by their ratios. The granitic rocks of Mo province have intermediate content of major and trace elements, but are clearly distinguishable from Jindong granites and partly overlapped by Yucheon-Eonyang granites. Chlorine content in biotites is higher in a productive mass than in a barren mass in Cu province. Therefore, the mineralogical and chemical compositions are applicable as geochemical index to distinguish the types of mineralizaion, and productive and barren masses of the Cretaceous granitic rocks in the Gyeongsang basin.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence of Brachyspira hyodysenteriae from 43 swine farms with diarrhea or a history of diarrhea in Gyeongbuk province by PCR. The overall herd prevalence of B hyodysenteriae was 37.2%(16/43), and the average prevalence of B hyodysenteriae among all sampled pigs was 10.8%(50/462). Positive herds for B hyodysenteriae were distributed throughout Gyeongbuk province from 14.3~50%. Herd size had a effect on the frequency of B hyodysenteriae. The frequency of B hyodysenteriae in herds with less than 1,000 pigs was 47.4%, that of herds between 1,001 and 2,000 pigs was 41.7%. Also, the frequency of B hyodysenteriae in herds with more than 2,000 pigs was 16.7%.

  • The incidence of Cherry necrotic rusty mottle virus (CNRMV) and Cherry green ring mottle virus (CGRMV) have recently been occurred in Korea, posing a problem for sweet cherry cultivation. Since infected trees have symptomless leaves or ring-like spots on the pericarp, it is difficult to identify a viral infection. In this study, the incidence of CNRMV and CGRMV in sweet cherry in Gyeongbuk province was surveyed using a newly developed duplex reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method that can detect both viruses in a single reaction. CNRMV and CGRMV co-infection rates were 29.6%, 53.6%, and 17.6%, respectively, in samples collected from three different sites (Daegu, Gyeongju and Gyeongsan) in Gyeongbuk province during 2012 and 2013. This duplex RT-PCR method offers a simple, rapid, and effective way of identifying CNRMV and CGRMV simultaneously in sweet cherry trees, which can aid in the management of viral infections that could undermine yield.
