A Study on the Logistics Strategies in Kunsan Port's Hinterland (군산항 배후단지의 로지스틱스 전략)

  • The purpose of this study is to consolidate the position of Kunsan Port as a Hub-port in Northeast asian region with the development of Kunsan port's hinterland. To accomplish the purpose, this paper firstly reviews the concept and function of port's hinterland literally. Next, We attempt to grasps the trends of port logistics service in this region, and to cope with this trends, study the previous researches of logistics platform(LP). Based upon the study, We find out the main factors of improving efficiency in port logistics, and build the model of logistics strategy with such factors as (1) Environment (2) Marketing (3) Logistics Chain and (4) Logistics community. And in order to applicate the model, we analyze the current situation of Kunsan port and port's hinterland. Finally, we provide the logistics strategies in Kunsan port's hinterland.

  • The establishment of the WTO system means that the global age of trade has officially arrived. Since the integration of the world economy brings about the free movement of goods and services between nations, it is inevitable that sea-bound freight will continue to increase. A recent World Bank report says that China and Korea will be the first and seventh largest economic Powers, respectively, by the year 2020. In particular, the Korea peninsula has a geo-political advantage in being developed as a major Northeast Asian container center. Moreover China's swift uprising needs new order of trade for economy belt in Northeast Asia. Therefore, it can be said that Kunsan Port. which has already been designated as a free trade zone, has greater potential to rise as a regional beach-head port and main region for foreign investment. As such. Kunsan Port will play a major role in accelerating the emergence of the West Sea in international trade. There are several strategies for developing Kunsan Port into a central container port: 1) develop Kunsan port Into an import/export front base f3r multinational corporations, 2) develop Kunsan container port into the core composite container-linked central port, 3) attract foreign investment to the Kunsan Free Trade Area so as to promote balanced development among the regions of Korea, 4) support the central government and local governments to accelerate the coming of the "West Sea Era." These recommendations call for urgent implementation.

  • Kunsan port based on the selection of Kunsan Free Trade Area is expected to develop into a regional beach-head port and foreign investment area, and as the result it will play a great role in accelerating the coming age of the west sea. To promote the foreign competitiveness of Kunsan port as a central container port it can be pointed out that 1) to raise up the utilization ratio of Kunsan port as the front base of export and import by multinational corporations, 2) to hustle up the development of Kunsan container port toplay the central role as the composite container linkage central port, 3) to strengthen the attraction activities of foreign investment into the Kunsan Free Trade Area for the balanced development between regions in nation, 4) the support of both central and local governments to accelerate the comingage of the west sea are necessary.

The Comparative Study on the Efficiency of Kunsan Port (군산항만의 효율성 비교연구)

  • By using data envelopment analysis(DEA) this research measures the efficiency of Korea's seven middle-sized seaports and their Malmquist productivity from 1998 to 2007. Under the assumption of CRS(constant returns to scale) and VRS(variable returns to scale), seaports' ranking of efficiency are measured. Kunsan Port is confirmed as a middle-performed port in the various measurements. Important finding facts are as follows. 1)Kunsan Port has the efficiency level from 53% to 57% of efficient ports' level under the assumption of CRS and VRS. 2)In terms of average efficiency level, the gap among these 7 seports' efficiency levels has been widened during the period from 1998 to 2007. 3)Kunsan Port has shown the characteristics of DRS more frequently in terms of returns to scale. 4) Kunsan Port's average total factor productivity has been lower at the rate of 0.7% during the period from 1998 to 2007. 5)Kunsan Port has shown technical progress at the rate of 3.1% in this period. In future research the more and better data will be expected to improve the understanding of Korean seaports' efficiency characteristics.

Performance Analysis of Improved Direct Conversion Six-port Phase Correlator (대역폭이 향상된 직접변환 Six-port 위상 상관기 성능분석)

  • In this paper, the six-port phase correlator using $90^{\circ}$ hybrid branch-line coupler and three-arm branch $90^{\circ}$ hybrid coupler were designed. The performances for two six-port phase correlators were analyzed by using ADS2003A tool. Three-arm six-port phase collerator provides more wide dynamic frequency range than that of six-port using the conventional hybrid coupler in range of circa five times. Six-port phase correlators were fabricated to evaluate the performance of two six-port phase correlators. The measured performances for two six-port phase correlators show the good accordance with the simulation data.

  • This thesis aims to contribute to upgrading its position to the biggest 8 ports in Korea by suggesting activating schemes of Kunsan Port in rapidly changing shipping environments. The research methodologies such as literature survey, O/D analysis are adopted in the study. The following several conclusions can be suggested. Firstly, in port logistics system the dredging in navigational channels and in Kumgang Dam and the incentive schemes for the shipping companies and the international freight forwarders are required. Secondly cargo inducement schemes should be introduced to induce container cargoes originated in Junbook Do Province and adjacent area etc. Thirdly the development of new shipping routes and strengthening the coastal routes among domestic sea ports. Fouthly establishing supply chain management system with adjacent Chinese Provinces such as Shandong.

Design and Implementation of QPSK Receiver Using Six-Port Direct Conversion (Six-Port 직접 변환을 이용한 QPSK 수신기 설계 및 제작)

  • A simple six-port direct conversion QPSK receiver which is made up of a six-port phase correlator, a signal power detector, and I/Q channel signal de-modulator is designed and implemented in this paper. The output phase signals of six-port phase correlator are also analysed. On the basis of $90^{\circ}C$ phase relation among the six-port phase correlator output signals, the QPSK de-modulation circuit is designed by a simple circuit. The six-port phase correlator is made up of $90^{\circ}$ hybrid branch line and power detector. The six-port phase correlator, which is designed in frequency range of 11.7 to 12.0 GHz, gets the phase error characteristics less than $5^{\circ}$. By considering matching network and amplitude balance in the designed fiequency range, the designed six-port direct conversion QPSK receiver demodulates the I and Q signals with performance less than $5^{\circ}$ phase error.

A Study on the Topography and Current Characteristic of the Before and After Construction at Geum River Estuary Dike (금강하구둑 축조 전.후의 지형 및 흐름특성에 관한 연구)

  • The estuary has a very complex coastline and bottom topography. Before the close of floodgate, the Keum river estuary was deposited with sediment from the Keum river, created bythe construction of the Keum river estuary dike. So, a periodical dredging is necessary to assure water depth for boat entry and departure to Kunsan port. Theof this study is to find the change of tidal current of M2tide and the topography before and after construction at the Geum River estuary dike. The change of water depth is investigated by digitizing the sea map (No.305) of Kunsan port, which was edited by National Oceanographic Research Institute. The calculated co-range and co-tidal charts of M2tide before the dike construction are similar to the observed ones. Therefore, the amplitude and phase after construction at Geum River estuary dike increases compared to before construction at Geum River estuary dike. The scour occurred in the A-A' section.
