  • The purpose of this study is to compare the perception on family of social workers and clients. Perception of family concept, family function is changing as times passes. But social worker is facing a dilemma because of differences of the perception on family. In order to compare between social worker and client concepts on family, this study compare family concept, familism, gender egalitarianism. Data for analysis were collected from 131 social workers and 134 clients who were purposive sampled. Social worker's recognition of family concept is more acceptable than client's family typology, functional family concept. Analysis shows that client group more higher familism and clients have a low opinion of gender egalitarianism. Thus, social worker may have conflicted with client's family while social worker practices case management or prograss family welfare services. In order to examine the influencing factors on family perception, the defined factors were self-efficacy, family of orgin perception. Controlling for sex, old, marriage on family perception were examined. There were significant effect of old, family-orgin perception to the client's family concept, familism, gender egalitarianism. On the contrary there were significant effect of sex, self-efficacy to the social worker's familism, gender egalitarianism. In conclusion, this study confirmed the difference of family perceptions between social worker and client. But the result of this study suggest that family social work procession or intervention will be investigated concretely.

  • Purpose: This study was designed to compare the relative accommodation, the accommodative facility, and the addition whose 40's initial presbyopia divided into five occupations (driver, official worker, housewife, field worker, teacher). Methods: We measured the values of near point convergence (NPC), positive relative accommodation (PRA), negative relative accommodation (NRA), accommodative facility, and addition. Results: Official worker group had lower PRA, higher NRA, and lower accommodative facility compared with them of the other groups. The average of addition was as follows: official worker > driver > field worker > housewife > teacher. Conclusions: Because the difference of working environment based on occupation affects the accommodative functions and addition, it is important to consider the patient's occupation when opticians measure the addition for near vision of initial presbyopia.

  • It was investigated whether or not such helpers as worker bee, bee-cocoon and egg-cup etc, have any effects on oviposition and colony foundation of the bumblebee queen, Bombus ignitus. Among the helpers tested, the callow workers of B. ignitus and B. terrestris showed the most remarkable effects on the oviposition rates to 92% and 88%, respectively. The live cocoon as a helper improved oviposition rate over 60%. A narcotized old worker 10-20 days-aged after emergence, showed similar effects to a callow worker on the colony development such as oviposition rate, colony foundation and progeny-queen production. On the other hand, dried cocoon, callow honeybee worker or egg-cup did not show a positive effect as a helper. In the number of workers recruited to a foundation queen, two workers showed better effect than one worker on the colony development, with no difference between two and more.

  • Objectives: This study was performed to propose a domestic occupational exposure limit(OEL) following a health hazard assessment, calculation of a non-carcinogenicity reference concentration worker($RfC_{worker}$) value, and examination of international agencies' exposure limits. It also recommends legal management within the Occupational Safety and Health Act for HCFC-123, which caused an acute hepatotoxicity incident. Methods: An acute hepatotoxicity incident due to the fire extinguishing agent HCFC-123 was investigated. Toxicological hazard and health hazard classifications were examined and a non-carcinogenicity $RfC_{worker}$ value was calculated for HCFC-123. An OEL and the necessity of legal management were recommended as well. Results and Conclusions: An OEL for HCFC-123 of 10 ppm($62.5mg/m^3$), which considered the $RfC_{worker}$ value, 5.56 ppm, produced in dose-response assessment and the exposure level of 19.1-20.9 ppm measured as an eight-hour TWA(time-weighted average) in the incident place, is recommended. HCFC-123 is urged to be included as a chemical requiring legal management in the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations. In addition, it is recommended that a peak exposure of ACGIH be adopted in the Notice of the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

  • Objective: Paint manufacturing industry workers are exposed to various lung cancer carcinogenic substances including hexavalent chromium and crystalline silica. Studies have been conducted on lung cancer in Paint manufacturing industry workers and the concentration of hexavalent chromium in paint industry; however, the concentration of crystalline silica and hexavalent chromium and cases of lung cancer in a single Paint factory has never been reported in Korea. Methods: To determine whether the cancer was related to his work environment, we assessed the level of exposure to carcinogens during pouring and mixing talc and pigment. In addition, a mask fit test was performed for the worker. Results: Analysis of talc and silica bulk powder materials showed that crystalline silica (quartz) was 5% in talc and 100% in silica. The green and yellow pigments contained 87% and 92% of lead chromate, respectively. Our quantitative analysis of pigment powder samples showed that the hexavalent chromium contents quantified in the green and yellow pigment samples were 87% and 92%, respectively. In order to estimate his exposure level of hexavalent chromium, we measured a personal exposure level of hexavalent chromium for a worker in accordance with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health #7605 method. The results showed that the worker was exposed to the high level of hexavalent chromium (0.033 mg m-3). In addition, the talc powder also contained 5% quartz, and the worker's exposure level to respirable quartz exceeded OEL. As a result of the respiratory protection fit test for workers, the overall Fit Factor was '15' when wearing a second-grade mask and '25' when wearing a first-grade mask, significantly lower than the US Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) pass value of "100". Conclusion: Workers who pouring and mixing powder materials such as talc or colored pigments in paint manufacturing company may be exposed to high concentrations of carcinogenic substances. These findings indicate that it is necessary to local ventilation system inspection, safety and health education for employers and workers, and periodically monitoring and manage the working environment.

  • Two asbestos slate manufacturing and seven asbestos textile plants in Korea were surveyed from May 20 to July 2, 1987. The purposes of this study were to evaluate 1) worker exposure to asbestos, 2) compliance to the standards and 3) the efficiency of existing local exhaust systems. Sixty-two personal samples and eighty-three area samples were collected and analyzed using "NIOSH 7400" method. Results of this study were as follows. 1. The asbesots exposure concentrations in asbestos textile plants were 1.3 - 14.3 fibers/cc(geometric mean(GM), 4.4 fibers/cc). 2. Worker exposure level to asbestos fiber in asbestos slate manufacturing industry was 0.21 fibers/cc during wet processing, which is below the Korean Standard of 2 fibers/cc. 3. Most local exhaust systems installed in asbestos textile plants were inadequately designed. 4. Ninety-six percent of the 145 samples exceeded the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) of 0.2 fibers/cc and forty-nine percent of the samples exceeded the Korean Standatd of 2 fibers/cc.

  • Using a establishment-worker matched data, this paper estimates wage differentials between standard and non-standard workers. Unlike previous studies, we estimate a fixed-effect model for the tree-way error-components that control for both unobserved individual heterogeneities and unobserved firm heterogeneities. The estimation results show that standard workers earn 6.5~8.4% mire than non-standard workers. This wage premium is 30~40% of the wage differential estimated from the OLS model. The results implies that a large proportion of the wage differentials between standard and non standard workers can be explained by unobserved firm and individual characteristics.

  • In domestic construction site, convenient facilities for worker are much lacking up to now. These things exert negative influences in the occurrence of construction disaster because a safety-aware of worker-self is been lacking ultimately, and 3D(Dirty Dangerous Difficult) evasion phenomenon for construction site spreads more to workers and actuality that is going through manpower problems may be heavier. This research applied sensitivity safety cultural institutions that make aware of worker's sensitivity in spot to search solution way of these problems from resource of human original nature. By the result, there were affirmative sides that sensitivity safety cultures facilities make created a safety-aware during work to worker-self. Also, these facilities gave as member of a constituent by workers, it examined that become many helps in operation efficiency.
