Purpose: Fatigue is a common problem in Parkinson's disease (PD), affecting 30~65% of patients with that diagnosis. Only recently has fatigue been recognized as an important clinical feature of PD. The aim of this study was to investigate the level of fatigue and related factors in patients with PD. Methods: Between March 1, and September, 30, 2010, a sample of 181 PD patients agreed to be interviewed. Results: The female patients' PFS (Parkinson Fatigue Scale) score was higher than those of the male patients. Household income and having a Job were significantly correlated with the PFS scores. Among the disease characteristics, motor fluctuations, dyskinesia and modified Hoehn and Yahr stage were significantly correlated with the PFS scores. On stepwise regression analysis, the most important factors related to the PFS scores were depression and sleep disturbance. Conclusion: Fatigue in patients with PD was associated with many factors and strongly associated with depression and sleep disturbance. Fatigue is a multidimensional construct; therefore, multidimensional strategies for relieving specific aspects of fatigue are needed.

Recent researches reveal that great benefit can be achieved for data gathering in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) by employing mobile data collectors. In order to balance the energy consumption at sensor nodes and prolong the network lifetime, a multi-track large-scale mobile data collection mechanism (MTDCM) is proposed in this paper. MTDCM is composed of two phases: the Energy-balance Phase and the Data Collection Phase. In this mechanism, the energy-balance trajectories, the sleep-wakeup strategy and the data collection algorithm are determined. Theoretical analysis and performance simulations indicate that MTDCM is an energy efficient mechanism. It has prominent features on balancing the energy consumption and prolonging the network lifetime.
The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical sedation effect of chloral hydrate and hydroxyzine combination, midazolam, triazolam when young children were sedated for dental treatment. The uncooperative 22 children aged, 25 to 52 months of age(ASA class I) and weighting between 11 and 17kg, participated in the study. Each patient was assigned randomly to receive chloral hydrate(50mg/kg) and hydroxyzine HCl(25mg), midazolam(0.5mg/kg), and triazolam(0.25mg) oral administration : alternative regimens were administered at next appointment. According to rating scale, sleep, crying, movement, and overall behavior response were checked for evaluation of the clinical sedation effect. Pulse rate and oxygen saturation were also measured for monitoring the patients during treatment period by pulse oximeter. The results were as follows: 1. In the evaluation of sedation effect, 90.9% in chloral hydrate and hydroxyzine combination and midazolam, and 77.3% in triazolam were rated "good" or "very good". 2. Sleep was demonstrated to be statistically significant increase in chloral hydrate and hydroxyzine combination group. Despite the fact that chloral hydrate and hydroxyzine group was in a deeper state of sleep, all the children were easily aroused. 3. There were no statistically significance among the three regimens with regard to cry ing, movement, overall behavior. 4. The adverse side effect was vomiting in one patient of chloral hydrate and hydroxyzine combination. There were no clinical sign of respiratory depression.

To determine the effectiveness of acupuncture in treating restless legs syndrome (RLS), we conducted a literature review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that utilized acupuncture as an intervention for patients diagnosed with RLS. Relevant clinical studies (n = 158) from seven databases (the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, CNKI, KISS, RISS, and OASIS) were included based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria and analyzed. Moreover, 6 RCTs were selected for review. In all six studies, it was indicated people who underwent acupuncture treatment showed significant improvements in their overall health. An increase in the treatment efficacy rate, sleep quality, and quality of life indicators after the acupuncture treatment was confirmed. The severity of pain as assessed using the visual analog scale (VAS) scores and International RLS Study Group Rating Scale (IRLSRS) scores and the severity of RLS symptoms were significantly reduced. Any significant side effects were not reported. Acupuncture is suggested as an effective and safe treatment method for RLS. However, further large-scale RCT studies are needed to confirm our findings.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of visiting laughter therapy on depression and insomnia in the vulnerable elderly. Results: The results showed that visiting laughter therapy was effective in decreasing depression and insomnia among the vulnerable elderly. Conclusion: These findings indicate that laughter therapy may be an effective nursing intervention to improve depression and insomnia Further studies would be needed to identify the difference of effects according to time, interval, or period of visiting laughter therapy and to evaluate the lasting effect of visiting laughter therapy.
Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of Mindfulness & Loving Beingness (M&L) psychotherapy combined with traditional Korean medicine in treating acute sleep disorders in patients hospitalized following traffic accidents. Methods: We applied traditional Korean medicine treatments in conjunction with various mindfulness meditation techniques from M&L therapy, including Resource Mindfulness and Nourishment Brief Therapy. This study was conducted on three patients who reported acute sleep disorder symptoms on the first day of hospitalization following a traffic accident. The effectiveness of these interventions was assessed using the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5-K), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), EuroQol 5-Dimension (EQ-5D), Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), and Patient Global Impression of Change (PGIC). Results: ISI and PCL-5-K scores showed significant improvements after treatment, indicating reduced sleep disturbances and stress symptoms. Additionally, EQ-5D and PGIC scores were enhanced, reflecting an overall improvement in quality of life. Conclusions: This study suggests that integrating M&L therapy with traditional Korean medicine could significantly improve symptoms in patients with acute sleep disorders following traffic accidents.
