Spectroscopic Confirmation of Galaxy Clusters at z~0.92

  • Galaxy clusters have provided important information to understand the evolution of the universe, since the number density and mass of clusters are tightly related to the cosmological parameters. In addition, galaxy clusters are an excellent laboratory to investigate the galaxy evolution in dense environments. However, finding galaxy clusters at high redshift ($z{\geq}1$) still remains as a main subject in astronomy due to their rareness and difficulty in identifying such objects from optical imaging data alone. Here, we report a spectroscopic follow-up observation of distant galaxy cluster candidates identified by a deep optical-NIR dataset of Infrared Medium-deep Survey. Through the galaxy spectra taken with the IMACS instrument on the Magellan telescope, we confirm at least 3 massive clusters at z~0.92. Interestingly, the maximum spatial separation between these clusters is ~8Mpc, which implies that this system is a new supercluster in the distant universe. We also discuss properties of galaxies in these clusters based on multi-wavelength photometric data.

최적인구와 통행량분포가 도시규모의 변화에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on Effects of Changes in the Optimal Population Density and Traffic Volume Impact of Urban Size)

  • 본 연구는 도시규모 확장에 따른 최적인구규모를 추정하고 지역간 통행량 분포를 통해 도시규모의 변화를 1기 신도시 건설의 사례를 통해 검증하고자 한다. 이를 위해 수도권 지역의 소득 및 지출함수, 그리고 적정인구수준의 분석과 거리별 통행량 증감에 따른 도시규모 확장과 지역경제 활성화의 가능 여부를 계측하였다. 연구 결과로서 도시규모 확장과 지역경제 활성화는 기종점에 관계없이 통행목적의 기점과 통행량은 반비례 관계에 있음을 추정할 수 있다. 약 20~40km 지점을 전후로 한 지역을 중심으로 통행량이 증가하는 경향이 있는 것으로 도출되었다. 따라서 이 구역을 중심으로 신도시를 건설하는 것이 지리적, 기능적으로 효과적이라고 평가할 수 있다.

원가족 분화경험이 기혼남녀의 부부친밀감에 미치는 영향: 자아정체감과 자녀에 대한 태도를 매개로 (The Influence of Family-of-Origin Differentiation on Marital Intimacy: Mediating Effects of Identity and Attitudes toward Children)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of family-of-origin differentiation, ego identity, and attitudes toward children on marital intimacy among married men and women. The participants of this study were 261 married men and 274 married women whose marital period were less than 14 years, and whose first child was less than 12 years old and who were living in Chungbuk Province. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentages, ttest, F-test with Tukey test for post-hoc test, Cronbach ${\alpha}$ for reliability analysis, factor analysis, and Pearson's correlation using the SPSS program(12.0 version). The model test was done with analysis of correlational matrix by the AMOS 5.0 package using a maximum likelihood estimation. Family of origin differentiation, ego identity, and attitude toward children had different effects on marital intimacy according to gender. Also, ego identity was the strongest predictor of men's marital intimacy whereas attitude was the strongest for women's marital intimacy.

구개에 발생한 과립세포종 (ORAL GRANULAR CELL TUMOR OF THE PALATE)

  • 본 교실에서는, 경구개에 발생한 과립세포종을 경험하여 문헌 고찰과 함께 면역조직화학적 특성을 확인 하여 기술 하였다. 본 종양세포는 S-100, CD68, NSE 등에 양성 반응을 보여, 과립세포종의 기원이 neural origin, 특히 Schwann's cell이라는 최근의 여러 연구들의 결론에 병행함을 보였다. 증례가 많지 않은 본 종양에 대한 향후 더 많은 증례와 연구가 필요하리라 사료된다.

Duplicated Vertebral Artery : Literature Review and Clinical Significance

  • Objective : Duplication of the vertebral artery (VA) is a rare vascular variant. This paper describes the anatomy and embryological development of duplicated VAs and reviews the clinical significance. Methods : Computed tomography (CT) angiography was performed in 3386 patients (1880 females, 1506 males) between March 2014 and November 2015. We defined duplication of the VA as a condition in which the VA has two origins that fused at different levels of the neck. Results : Ten of the 3386 patients (0.295%) who received CT angiography had a dual origin of the VA; three on the left side, and seven on the right side. In all seven with right dual origin of the VA, both limbs of the VA origin originated from the right subclavian artery. In all three patients with left dual origin of the VA, both limbs of the VA originated from the left subclavian artery and aortic arch. In all 10 patients, the medial limb of the duplicated VA was located posteriorly and medially to the common carotid artery (CCA) and anteriorly and laterally to the vertebral transverse foramen. In two patients, the medial limb of the duplicated VA was located in close proximity to the CCA. In another two patients, the medial limb of the duplicated VA was located in close proximity to the CCA, carotid bifurcation, and proximal internal carotid artery. Conclusion : Although duplication of the VA is asymptomatic in most patients, clinicians should consider this anomaly during diagnosis and treatment.

Acute Spontaneous Subdural Hematoma of Arterial Origin

  • Acute spontaneous subdural hematoma (SDH) of arterial origin is very rare. We report a case of acute spontaneous SDH that showed contrast media extravasation from cortical artery on angiograms. A 58-year-old male patient developed sudden onset headache and right hemiparesis. Brain CT scan demonstrated acute SDH at left convexity. The patient was drowsy mentality on admission. He had no history of head trauma. Cerebral angiography was performed and revealed a localized extravasation of the contrast media from distal cortical MCA branch. After angiography, the patient deteriorated to comatose mentality. Decompressive craniectomy for removal of SDH was performed. We verified the arterial origin of the bleeding and coagulated the bleeding focus. The histological diagnosis was aneurysmal artery. He recovered after surgery with mild disability. In a case of acute spontaneous SDH, the possibility of a cortical artery origin should be considered.

The Contribution of Mergers on Star Formation Activities in Nearby Galaxies

  • We present our study of the correlation between the UV luminosity and the merging activities of nearby galaxies (d < 300 Mpc). Our study uses ~600 UV-selected galaxies with deep optical imaging data, where the UV selection is made using the GALEX Atlas of Galaxies (Gil de Paz et al. 2007) and the updated UV catalog of nearby galaxies (Yu Bai et al. 2015). Deep optical images allow us to classify merger features using visual inspection, and we also estimate unobscured SFR using UV continuum luminosity. The fraction of galaxies with merger features in each UV luminosity bins are obtained to see if how the fraction of galaxies with merging features changes as a function of UV luminosity, Finally, we will show, above what UV luminosity (or SFR), the merging mechanism becomes an important process in enhancing star formation of galaxies.

원유와 석유제품 중의 다환방향족탄화수소류[PAHs] 분포특성과 발생원 (Compositional Characteristics and Origin of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons[PAHs] of Crude Oils and Petroleum Products)

  • Compositional characteristics and origin of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs), which should be strongly regulated for environmental protection in the crude oils and petroleum products, have been investigated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC/MS). In the crude oils analyzed, two-rings compound(naphthalene) of PAHs was detected around $72.3\sim93.5%$, but five- or six-rings compound of PAHs was not detected. In the crude oils analyzed, the molecular ratio indices of Phe/Ant(phenanthrene/anthracene)>15, Fla/Pyr(fluoranthene/pyrene)<1, BaA/Chr(benzo (a)anthracene/chrysene)$\leq0.4$ could be effectively applied, and we found that the origin of PAHs was petrogenic sources. Total PAHs concentrations in the crude oils were increased with increasing API gravity and with decreasing sulfur contents of the analyzed crude oils. Five- or six-rings compound of PAHs were not included in ail petroleum products except bunker-C. Furthermore, the molecular ratio indices of Phe/Ant(phenanthrene/anthracene) vs. Fla/Pyr(fluoranthene/pyrene) could be effectively applied as the standard for the PAHs contamination criterion at the other Korean areas.

국내 다소비 식품의 biotin 함량 모니터링 (Monitoring of Biotin Content in Frequently Consumed Foods in Korea)

  • In this study, biotin (vitamin B7) contents of frequently consumed foods in Korea were determined by using immunoaffinity column in conjunction with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The biotin contents of 24 foods of plant origin and 27 foods of animal origin were selected. The highest biotin contents in frequently consumed foods of plant origin were found in red beans (Huinguseul; 11.475 ㎍/100 g). On the other hand, biotin was not detected in any varieties of sorghum. For frequently consumed foods of animal origin, salted pollack roe (7.486 ㎍/100 g) showed the highest biotin content. However, beef and fish contained less biotin. All biotin analyses were conducted under analytical quality control. The limits of detection and limits of quantification of biotin were 0.007 and 0.023 ㎍/100 g, respectively, and the accuracy/recovery percentage was 95.35-105.02%. The precision values were 4.041% (repeatability) and 3.835% (reproducibility). Taken together, our data provide reliable data on the biotin contents of frequently consumed foods in Korea.

식품군별 섭취중량 변화에 따른 납의 경구섭취 추정량의 경년변화 (Time Trends in Estimated Dietary Lead Intake from the Variation of Intake Weight Per Food Group)

  • Objectives: The aim of this study is to examine the possible changes over the past ten years in the estimated daily dietary lead intake (Pb-D) stemming from the variation of daily intake amounts for each food group. The following factors were considered; 1. time trends in Pb-D as the estimated values, 2. the time trend in Pb-D by food groups 3. the most influential food groups for dietary Pb intake. Methods: Estimated Pb-D was drawn from food consumption according to food groups reported in the Korean National Health and Nutrition Survey and the lead contents of each food group as reported in 23 prior publications. Results: The estimated Pb-D in a 2009 survey was 40.8 ${\mu}g/day$, of which 22.5 ${\mu}g/day$ (55.1%) was of plant origin and 18.3 ${\mu}g/day$ (44.9%) was of animal origin. Meats and poultry, fish and shellfish among foods of animal origin and beverages of plant origin had the largest contribution in Pb-D among the food groups. Conclusion: Over past ten years, daily lead intakes have slightly increased among men. Otherwise, no clear variation is apparent among women.
