Effect of soil salinity variation on the growth of barley, rye and oat was studied at the Hwaong, Iweon and Yeongsangang reclaimed lands in the western seaside of Korea. Soil salinity variation and soil EC were very high for crops to be killed or to be brought serious growth retardation during the growing season at the Iweon and Hwaong reclaimed lands, but fully low not to bring growth retardation at the Yeongsangang reclaimed land. Relation between soil salinity and crop growth and yield was well expressed as logarithmic function. Surface soil EC to reach at 50% of seed-emergence reduction was estimated $6.5dS\;m^{-1}$ for barley and $5.1dS\;m^{-1}$ for rye and oat by logarithmic function. In addition, surface soil EC to reach at 50% of grain yield reduction to the best growth in the experimental site was estimated $5.6dS\;m^{-1}$ for barley, $5.8dS\;m^{-1}$ for rye and $5.7dS\;m^{-1}$ for oat, while soil EC to reach at 50% of dry matter reduction was estimated $5.5dS\;m^{-1}$ for barley, $6.2dS\;m^{-1}$ for rye and $5.8dS\;m^{-1}$ for oat by logarithmic function. Grain yield of barley, rye and oat was 395, 164 and $325kg\;10a^{-1}$ in the Yeongsangang reclaimed lands naturally controlled below condition of $6dS\;m^{-1}$ of soil EC, but no harvest was obtained in the Hwaong and Iweon reclaimed land because of high salinity more than $15dS\;m^{-1}$ in maximum soil EC during growing period. Consequentially, it was concluded that soil salinity must be controlled below $6dS\;m^{-1}$ for good growth and high yield of winter barley, rye and oat in the reclaimed land in Korea.

Oats (Avena sativa L.) were evaluated in recent years as a promising crop for increasing the nutritional quality of foods, due to their abundance in many bioactive compounds. The objectives of this study were to determine antioxidant compounds and antioxidant activities of nine oat cultivars and investigate the relationships between antioxidant compounds and antioxidant activities in oat cultivars. The contents of total polyphenolics and vitamin E in oat cultivars were analyzed by spectrophotometric methods and normal phase HPLC, respectively. 2,2'-Azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline- 6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) radical and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activities, reducing power, and chelating effects were used to compare the relative antioxidant activities of oat cultivars. In this study, total polyphenolic and vitamin E contents of oat cultivars ranged from 83.41 to 130.59 mg gallic acid equivalents/100 g and 0.54 to 1.90 mg/100 g, respectively. High levels of ABTS radical (116.14 mg Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC)/100 g) and DPPH radical (38.58 mg TEAC/100 g) scavenging activities and reducing power ($A_{700}=0.922$) were found in Daeyang. Significant correlation was evaluated between total polyphenolic contents and their antioxidant activities, namely ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging activities and reducing power. A low correlation was observed between vitamin E contents and their antioxidant activities. The results of this study could have an impact on oat consumption by enhancing consumer awareness of the health benefits of oats.

There are barley, wheat, oat, rye and triticale winter cereal crops for whole crop silage. These small grains have been suitable to use for round-baled silage making as livestock feed. Studies were carried out to understand the growth and productivity of five winter cereals grown at paddy field in middle region of South Korea. The ratio of culm weight per plant were described by quadratic function for 5 winter cereals crops. The peak of culm ratio were 1 May in barley variety 'Youngyang', 5 May in wheat variety Keumkang', 10 May in rye 'Gogu'(Rye), 11 May in triticale variety 'Shinyoung' and 13 June in oat variety 'Samhan', respectively. The ratio of leaf per plant were linearly decreased by growing. In barley and oat, the ratio of spike weight per plant were linearly increased after heading, but in wheat and triticale, it were not accumulated at one time after heading and rapidly increased after fertilization. The ratio of spike weight per plant in barley was outstandingly higher than that of wheat, triticale, rye and oat, respectively. So, barley variety 'Youngyang' recommended for whole crop forage use was suitable for forage use because of high at ratio of the leaf and spike. The proper cutting date by the percentage of dry matter for baled-silage making, 30$[\sim}$40%, were 25 May in barley variety 'Youngyang', 25 May to 5 June in wheat variety 'Keumkang' and triticale variety 'Shinyoung', 15 May in rye 'Gogu' and 5 June in oat variety 'Samhan', respectively. The total aerial fresh weight accumulation at different cutting dates were described by quadratic function for barley, wheat and triticale. The forage fresh yield were peaked at 7 May in barley, 14 May in wheat, 17 May in triticale and late of May in oat, respectively. The dry matter yields of four small cereals were linearly increased after over-wintering. The yield at the date of proper harvesting time by water content for baled silage making were sequently high oat, barley, wheat, triticale and rye. The relative growth rate was relatively high in rye at early cutting but high in oat at late cutting. In barley, wheat and triticale, the rate were similar.
Blends of pork meat (20%), defatted soy flour (25%), and corn starch (48.61~53.71%) were prepared with or without additional non-meat ingredients, i.e., onion powder (1%), alone or in combination with carrot powder (1.5%) or extract (1.5%), or defatted oat flour (5%). All blends were formulated for 22.78% moisture, with water added where necessary. They were extruded using a laboratory single-screw extruder at 16$0^{\circ}C$ profess temperature and 170 rpm screw speed. The additional ingredients generally decreased product expansion and increased bulk density and shear force. When the product with no additional ingredient and the product with onion powder were evaluated by trained sensory panelists, \"grain complex\" was the most intense flavor note for both. With 1 % onion powder in feed, a distinct \"onion\" flavor note was detectable in extrudates. All the products may be considered \"healthful\" based on nutrient profiles.t; based on nutrient profiles.
Barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) is an economically important plant pathogen that causes stunted growth, delayed heading, leaf yellowing, and purple leaf tip, thereby reducing the yields of cereal crops worldwide. In the present study, a reverse transcription recombinase polymerase amplification (RT-RPA) assay was developed for the detection of BYDV in oat leaf samples. The RT-RPA assay involved incubation at an isothermal temperature (42℃) and could be performed rapidly in 5 min. In addition, no cross-reactivity was observed to occur with other cereal-infecting viruses, and the method was 100 times more sensitive than conventional reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Furthermore, the assay was validated for the detection of BYDV in both field-collected oat leaves and viruliferous aphids. Thus, the RT-RPA assay developed in the present study represents a simple, rapid, sensitive, and reliable method for detecting BYDV in oats.
The result of survey on job satisfaction of first-aid staff found that degree of work-related stress of 119 first-aid staff got total average 2.54 point (SD.44) out of 4. The degree of fatigue that first-aid staff feel got 2.09 point (SD.49) out of 4. The degree of job satisfaction of 119 first-aid staff got 2.71 point out of 5. This study suggests increasing of new hire, continuous education through teaching before employment, studying abroad, and so on, expansion and modernization of first-aid equipment, introduction and management of OAT institution for improvement of job satisfaction of first-aid staff.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of the intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection (IMSI) technique compared with conventional ICSI and previous ICSI attempts in oligo-astheno-teratozoospermia (OAT) patients. Methods: The sperms were selected under high magnification ($6,600{\times}$) and used to induce fertilization in previous ICSI patients by IMSI. These results were compared with previous conventional ICSI cycles in patients with OAT infertility. Results: These results demonstrated no significant difference in the fertilization rate between IMSI and previous ICSI cycles (67.7% vs. 65.0%). However, the pregnancy and implantation rates with IMSI were significantly higher than those of the ICSI cycles (33.3% vs. 12.5% and 14.6% vs. 5.4%, respectively; p<0.05). The miscarriage rate among pregnant patients (18.2% vs. 37.5%) showed no statistically significant difference between groups. Conclusion: Compared to conventional ICSI, this study found that IMSI increased the IVF-ET success rates in patients with OAT.
The effects of varying concentrations and durations of butachlor [N-(bytoxymethyl)-2-chlor-2', 6';-diethylacetanilide] treatment on oat (Avena sativa L.) root cell division were studied. Oats were treated from 0 to 48h with concentration ranging from 1$\times$10-6M to 1$\times$10-3M of butachlor. The highest concentration (1$\times$10-3M) of butachlor caused significant inhibition of cell division after 6h treatment. After 18h treatment, 49% and 66% inhibition of cell division occurred at 1$\times$10-5M and 1$\times$10-4M, respectively, while 16% inhibition of cell division occurred at 1$\times$10-6M concentration at same exposure period. Oat treated with 1$\times$10-5M and 1$\times$10-6M showed 69% and 38% inhibition of cell division after 36h. Increasing herbicide concentration at a specific time increased inhibition of cell division, and increasing the duration of treatment at a specific concentration also increased inhibition of cell division. In most instances the greatest inhibition of cell division occurred between 0 to 18h during 48h treatment. A range of concentration of 1$\times$10-5M to 1$\times$10-3M reduced cell enlargement significantly during 24h incubation period. The 1$\times$10-5M and 1$\times$10-3M caused 34% and 75% inhibition of cell enlargement. It was concluded that butachlor caused the growth inhibition of oats by inhibiting both cell division and cell enlargement.

Due to increased consumption and demand for oat-related foods and processed food, this study examined physicochemical properties, antioxidant activity, and ${\beta}-glucan$ contents of 5 Korean naked oat cultivars. Oat seeds had long-grain appearance in all cultivars except for Seonyang. The contents of main components such as protein, starch, and crude fat were significantly different among cultivars. The total ${\beta}-glucan$ content was 3.78-4.60% and the soluble ${\beta}-glucan$ ratio was 71-83%. Fatty acid composition was C18:1, C18:2, C16:0, C18:0, and C18:3. Unsaturated fatty acid (USFA) content was 75.4-81.2%. 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazil (DPPH) and 2,2'-azino-bis-3-ethyl-benzo-thiaxoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) radical scavenging activity were significantly different for each cultivar. Daeyang had the highest ${\beta}-glucan$, USFA content, and antioxidant activity. Protein content showed a negative correlation with starch content (r = -0.775). Antioxidant activity was positively correlated with total phenol content (r =0.760). Ash content and flour whiteness showed a positive correlation (r =0.732).
