Objectives : Symptoms caused by traffic accidents can be divided into localized pain and systemic symptoms. Edema and pain can be increased due to obesity. During hospitalization of obese patients after traffic accident injury, obesity and systemic symptoms such as edema, dizziness, abdominal fullness and heavy body feeling might increase more by decreased physical activity due to pain. Methods : This report details on two cases of obese female inpatients with systemic symptoms after a car accident who were treated with wild ginseng complex (WGC) pharmacopuncture combined with Korean Medicine (KM) automobile insurance treatment. The Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Neck Disablility Index (NDI) and the Oswestry Disablility Index (ODI) were evaluated before and after treatment for comparison. Body composition was also measured. Results : Localized pain improved with a decrease in patients' NRS, NDI and ODI scores. Systemic symptoms increased during hospitalization were also improved with changes of body composition. Conclusions : Combining WGC pharmacopuncture with KM automobile insurance treatment may be synergistically effective for the treatment of obese patients with systemic symptoms such as edema, heavy body feeling and abdominal fullness.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to observe the effect of improving obesity after 4 week complex Korean medicine treatment in obese patients by retrospectively analyzing. Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted on 44 patients who received obesity treatment at 23 Korean medicine clinics in Daejeon city. We analyzed weight, body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, body fat mass, muscle mass, hip and waist circumference, EuroQol-5D (EQ-5D), Korean version of obesity-related quality of life scale (KOQOL), and satisfaction surveys at 4 and 8 weeks after treatment. Results: The weight, BMI change after 4 weeks and 8 weeks was decreased significantly. In addition, there were significant differences in fat mass, muscle mass, waist circumference, and hip circumference. Life quality scale EQ-5D and KOQOL showed decreased significantly. In the evaluation of overall satisfaction, safety, help level, recommendation intention, and revisit intention, more than 89% answered positively that they were satisfied. There were no serious side effects. Conclusions: It was significant effect on weight loss and obesity improvement after complex Korean medicine. And quality of life evaluation and satisfaction survey also show positive results.

Objectives: This study reports the case of a patient with right hemiparesis after a left thalamic infarction, in which the patient experienced improved clinical symptoms (hemiparesis, constipation) after treatment with a complex Korean medicine treatment. Methods: A 81-year-old male patient diagnosed with acute left thalamic infarction was treated with daily acupuncture and herbal medicine (Boyanghwanoh-tang-gagam) three times a day. Jowiseunggi-tang extract granules were administered to treat constipation by adjusting the dosage according to the reported symptoms. The patient's clinical course was assessed using changes in Modified Barthel Index (MBI) score, Manual Muscle Testing (MMT) grade, and defecation frequency . Results: The patient's MBI score improved from 35 to 69 and was discharged with the ability to walk under supervision. The MMT grade also improved from 3/4 to 5/5 in the upper/lower extremities. Other clinical symptoms, including constipation, also improved, leading to the discontinuation of magnesium medication. Conclusion: These findings suggest that complex Korean medicine treatments, including herbal medicine and acupuncture, may be an effective treatment for post-stroke hemiplegic patients.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to observe the effect of Pyung-Hyung acupuncture on peripheral facial palsy. Methods : We investigated 44 cases of patients with peripheral facial paralysis, and divided patients into two groups. We treated one group by complex oriental medical treatment with Pyung-Hyung acupuncture, and the other group by complex oriental medical treatment without Pyung-Hyung acupuncture. To evaluate the effectiveness of treatment applied for two groups, we used Yanagihara's unweighed grading system(Y system) and gross grading system of House-Brackmann(HB score) at baseline and final. Results : 1. The final Y-system in both the Pyung-Hyung acupuncture group and the control group significantly increased compared to the value at baseline. 2. At final, Pyung-Hyung acupuncture group showed significantly increase on Y-system compared with control group. Conclusions : Pyung-Hyung acupuncture can be used for relieving symptoms related with peripheral facial paralysis.

The objective of this study is to observe the effectiveness of complex Korean Medicine treatments on pain reduction of patients after meniscal surgery. We analyzed 16 patients who have been diagnosed as Meniscal injury on Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) scan and had admitted to Dunsan Korean Medical hospital from January 30, 2014 to April 30, 2019. The analysis was conducted as retrospective study which analyzes patient's medical records. Statistical analysis was performed using the IBM SPSS statistics 25 program. We used Numeric Rating Scale to evaluate pain reduction, Five-point likert scale to asses treatment satisfaction. The result showed that there were statistically significant pain reduction on the postoperative meniscal injury patients treated with complex Korean Medicine treatments. In conclusion, we found that the complex Korean Medicine treatments showed a positive effect on pain reduction of postoperative meniscal injury patients. Further research is required to confirm the effectiveness of Korean Medicine treatment.

Objective: The objective of this study is to observe the effect of anti-inflammatory herbal acupuncture on the Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Methods : Anti-inflammatory herbal acupuncture, A-Shi Point, Sa-am acupunture were used to treat shoulder pain & ROM(range of movement)disorder, chest pain, finger's causalgic pain. We evaluated the patient through VAS(Visual Analog Scale) daily and Physical Examinations Results & Conclusions : After 42days of treatment, shoulder pain was decreased from VAS10 to VAS3, chest pain was decreased from VAS10 to VAS1.5, finger's causalgic pain was decreased from VAS10 to VAS2.5. and the patient showed that the ROM(range of movement) of shoulder was better, oriental treatment is good method for pain relief and better movement.

The superior shoulder suspensory complex is composed of glenoid fossa, coracoid process, coracoclavicular ligament, distal clavicle, acromioclavicular ligament, acromion. Traumatic double disruptions of this complex lose its suspensory action on the shoulder joint and result in functional loss and deformity. Careful radiologic evaluation and appropriate management are required for injuries to this complex. Ipsilateral fractures of clavicle and scapula create unstable anatomic situation on shoulder joint. Conservative treatment usually fails to achieve good functional recovery due to rotator cuff weakness, nonunion, delayed union, malunion and neurovascular injury. Authors studied the result of operative treatment of ipsilateral clavicle and scapular fractures to prevent such complications. Seven cases were treated with open reduction and internal fixations of clavicle alone or clavicle and scapula simultaneously and followed up for nineteen months(twelve months - thirty-eight months). All but one patient showed good or excellent functional result according to the scoring system of Rowe. Poor result was developed in the case which had brain injury. Rigid fixations of clavicle alone or clavicle and scapular fractures both can achieve stable reduction of the fractures and prevent sequelae. We concluded that operative treatment of ipsilateral fractures of clavicle and scapula is safe and yields predictable good results.

Background: This study aimed to determine the effects of complex Korean medicine treatments on a patient suffering from tetraplegia caused by spinal cord injury. Case Summary: A 64-year-old female patient diagnosed with tetraplegia was treated using acupuncture, electroacupuncture, pharmacopuncture, knee joint motion style treatment (MST), and herbal medicine. Clinical symptoms were measured using the numeric rating scale (NRS) and manual muscle test (MMT). After 67 days of treatment, the NRS score for lower back pain and knee pain decreased from 7 to 3. For the shoulder joint the MMT grade improved from 3+/4+(Rt./Lt.) to 4/5-; in the hip joint, it improved from 3-/3+ to 4/4+. No side effects were observed from the treatments used in this case report. Conclusion: The complex Korean Medicine treatments appeared to be effective in recovering muscle strength and reducing pain in patients with tetraplegia caused by spinal cord injury.

Methods : We investigated 39 cases of patients with peripheral facial paralysis, and devided patients into two groups : We treated one group by complex oriental medical treatment with cupping therapy, and did the other group by complex oriental medical treatment without cupping therapy. To evaluate the effectiveness of treatment applied for two groups, we used gross grading system of House-Brackmann(HB score), Yanagihara's unweighed grading system(Y score) at baseline and final. Results : 1. In cupping group and non-cupping group, compared with baseline, at final, HB score was significantly decreased and Y score was significantly increased. 2. At final, cupping group showed significant decrease on HB score and significant increase on Y score compared with non-cupping group. Conclusions : Cupping therapy can be available for relieving symptoms related with peripheral facial paralysis.

Methods : We investigated 34 cases of patients with peripheral facial paralysis, and devided patients into two groups : We treated one group by complex oriental medical treatment with scratching method therapy, and did the other group by complex oriental medical treatment without scratching method therapy. gross grading system of House-Brackmann(HB score) and Yanagihara's unweighed grading system(Y score) at baseline and final were used for evaluating the effect of the treatment. Results : 1. In scratching method group and non-scratching method group, compared with baseline, at final, HB score was significantly decreased and Y score was significantly increased. 2. At final, scratching method group showed significant decrease on HB score and significant increase on Y score compared with non-scratching method group. Conclusions : scratching method showed significant improvement in peripheral facial palsy.
