  • Jeon Suk-hee worked as permanent licensed Uisaeng (medical cadet) in Dalseong the Japanese occupation. The his newly discovered medical records were analyzed for the actual medical aspects of local Uisaeng. This article examined the medical view and treatment method of Jeon Suk-hee through the analysis of medical records, reveals facts which include : 1) The medical treatment was based on korean medical classification and treatment. This, along with the case of Cheongkang Kim Young-hoon, is an example of the preservation of traditional Korean medicine during the Japanese colonial period. 2) There is little effect of Shanghanlun (Treatise on Cold Damage). One side of Joseon medicine, which had a weak tradition of Shanghan, is revealed. 3) It did not simply follow the existing prescription of korean medicine's book. Examples include use of Cheongsin-san and Jeongjin-tang, which cannot be found in existing prescriptions.

  • Medical education research subjects are incredibly diverse and have changed over time. This work in particular aims to compare and analyze research trends in medical education through the words used in the titles of these research papers. Academic Medicine (the journal of the Association of American Medical Colleges), Medical Teacher (the journal of the Association of Medical Education in Europe), the Korean Journal of Medical Education (KJME), and Korean Medical Education Review (KMER) were selected and analyzed for the purposes of this research. From 2009 to 2018, Academic Medicine and Medical Teacher published approximately 10 to 20 times more papers than the KJME and KMER. Frequently used words in these titles include "medical," "student," "education," and "learning." The words "clinical" and "learning" were used relatively often (7.80% to 13.66%) in Korean journals and Medical Teacher, but Academic Medicine used these phrases relatively less often (6.47% and 4.41%, respectively). Concern with such various topics as problem-based learning, team-based learning, program evaluations, burnout, e-learning, and digital indicates that Medical Teacher seems to primarily deal with teaching and learning methodologies, and Academic Medicine handles all aspects of medical education. The KJME and KMER did not cover all subjects, as they publish smaller papers. However, it is anticipated that research on new subjects, such as artificial intelligence in medical education, will occur in the near future.

  • A lot of medicine-related schools have courses for Medical English in their curricula these days. Medical English of Oriental Medical Colleges is somewhat different from that of other colleges, especially medical schools, in contents for the lecture. The lectures on Medical English of Oriental Medical Colleges need to include : Oriental medical terminology, Medical terminology, Materials about Oriental Medicine and Western Medicine, Writing about Oriental Medicine in English, Conversation with patients in English, Presentation on Oriental Medicine in English. It would be better that the study of Medical English should be placed in the second year of pre-medical course in Oriental Medical Colleges.

  • We have known that "Chimgudaeseong(鍼灸大成)" had been written by Yanggyeju(楊繼洲) in Myeong(明) Dynasty. And it had been the only text book of acupuncture & moxibustion for 300 years. This book is composed of 10 chapters dealing almost all the medical theories of that times. This book is so enormous that it is hard to understand essential ideas of author. The reading medical records is one of the best way to develop one's abilities of curing a disease without clinical practice. so we can't help dealing with medical records, because it is one of important method of understanding Oriental Medicine. Methods: The curricula for each grade were collected from the websites of 11 CKM. Based on KAS2021, medical humanities and social medicine courses were extracted and compiled. Courses offered, frequency of course offerings, time of offerings, credits, and course hours were investigated. Results: Courses in languages and literature were most frequently offered in CKM. Most medical humanities and social medicine courses were offered in the pre-medical program and the fourth year of the medical program and were conducted as individual courses. Developing a curriculum that integrates conceptual definitions of the medical humanities and social medicine with basic and clinical studies is necessary. Conclusion: Eleven CKM should reorganize and operate their medical humanities and social medicine curricula based on each college's circumstances. This will allow each college to improve the quality of its educational offerings, creating a foundation for fostering excellent korean medicine doctors with professional medical skills and communication skills.
