  • The goal of this research is to analyze the Korean anthropometric data collected through Project "Size Korea" by ATS from 2003 to 2004, to extract the characteristics for each age and sex group, and to establish an extensive reference for designers of related products. The result shows that the characteristics of Korean anthropometric data have the different ratio and distribution among mutually related factors for different age and sex. Especially, the difference between two groups, those in their twenties and those in their fifties and above, are huge, indicating that there are drastic changes in the data for recent decades. The result of this research can be used for the design of furniture, clothes and workplace, where there are different target ranges for specific age and sex.

  • The objectives of this study were to analyze the color characteristics of Saikdong by the standardized color system and to applicate it's color characteristics to fashion design. 25 traditional costumes made with Saikdong were selected from four museums in Seoul. The colors were measured using CE 310 and analyzed by Munsell HV/C. The results were shown as follows; 1. The frequently used hues in Saikdong are warm colors such as red, orange, yellow. Except purplish blue, cool colors show low usage ratio. 2. The tones of medium lightness and saturation are most frequent in Saikdong colors. 3. The characteristics of color combination are the contrast of hue and the similarity in tones. This makes the saikdong splendid and harmonious. 4. Based on this anaylized characteristics of Saikdong color combination, fashion designs were developed by computer simulations.

This research was performed to classify and characterize Korean adult males anthropometrically. Sample size was 1290 subjects and their age range was from 19 to 54 years old. Sampling was carried out by the stratified sampling method. 75 variables in total were applied to classify the bodytypes. Data were analyzed by the multivariate method, especially factor and cluster analysis. The high factor loading items extracted by factor analysis were based to determine the variables of the cluster analysis for the similar bodytypes respectively. In the part of the lower body, 14 variables from the data were applied to classify the bodytypes of lower part by Ward's minimum variance method. The group fanning a cluster were subdivided into 5 sets by cross-tabulation extracted by the hierarchical cluster analysis. Type 3 and 4 in lower body were composed of the majority of 53.1% of the subjects. The Korean adult males had relatively well-balanced in lower body.
