  • Objective: This study aimed to summarize and analyze the usage of and the satisfaction levels with combined treatment including Oriental and Western medicine. Methods: We searched studies on the usage of and the satisfaction levels with combined treatment including Oriental and Western medicine over the past 10 yrs (2001-2011) from 3 Korean databases (National Assembly Library, Research Information Service System, and National Discovery for Science Leaders). The reviewers also conducted a summarizing analysis by sampling the literature according to the type of study, study period, region, study subjects, sample size, type of sampling, research method, data analysis, study instruments, main results, etc. Results: When the main results of six studies on combined treatment usage and satisfaction levels were considered together, the most important decisive factor in determining the usage of combined treatment was the illness of the patient, followed by the patient's occupation, sex, age, education, marital status, religion, treatment cost, and treatment results. In addition, the most important factor that determined satisfaction levels with combined treatment was age, followed by education, religion, income, health status, treatment procedures, staff attitude, and cleanliness. Conclusions: Elderly patients with musculoskeletal, cerebro-vascular, and circulatory system illnesses are more likely to prefer combined treatment over independent Oriental or Western treatment and are more likely to request specialized, adjusted medical care.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze acupuncture treatment methods and acupoint used to treat infertility in the last decade. The data were retrieved from 2010.1 to 2021.8. using national and international electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, OASIS, NDSL, and KISS). "Infertility," "sterility," "acupuncture," "electroacupuncture," "bloodletting," "pharmacopuncture," were used as search terms. All studies were mainly concerned with acupuncture treatment of infertility, but the studies which were not related included; (1) infertility or acupuncture treatment; (2) animal studies; (3) review/meta/protocol or clinical study; comparative studies and case reports which were excluded from this review. Only clinical trials for acupuncture treatment of infertility were included in this review (n = 18). For infertility treatment studies using acupuncture, polycystic ovarian syndrome was the main cause of infertility, the most common acupoint used was CV4, CV3, CV6, SP6, BL23, and the treatment effect significantly improved in the group receiving acupuncture treatment compared with the control group, or the group taking Western medicine alone. In some studies, the group using acupuncture treatment did not show side effects. Acupuncture is an effective treatment for infertility.

Methods : Frequency analysis was carried out to identify the effectiveness and satisfaction of Korean medicine services, and independent sample t-test was carried out to compare the satisfaction of users with different characteristics. Lastly, cross analysis(chi-square) was carried out to examine the relation between satisfaction and willingness to recommend. Results : Firstly, 91.3% of the patients were satisfied with the medical services provided at Korean medicine clinics, with the most satisfactory Korean medicine treatments in the order of acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, Korean physical therapy, herbal acupuncture, Chuna manual therapy, herbal medicine, and others. Secondly, 71.3% of the patients answered that outpatient treatment was appropriate while 65.3% of the patients answered that hospitalized treatment was appropriate regarding duration of treatment at Korean medicine clinics, mostly being satisfied with the treatment duration at Korean medicine clinics and Korean medicine hospitals. Thirdly, in a survey on effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment compared to occidental medicine treatment, 85.9% of the patients answered: "the effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment is higher compared to occidental medicine or similar". Conclusion : From the results of this study, it was identified that satisfaction of Korean medicine treatment is high in motor insurance, and that higher satisfaction led to higher willingness to recommend Korean medicine treatment to others. Based on such results, the expansion of the role of Korean medicine could be understood.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to find the effectiveness of Korean medical treatment on stress caused by traffic accidents. HRV analysis and IES-R K research were used to evaluate it. Methods : We selected patients who entered the KangNam KyungHee Hospital between 28 Sep 2013 and 14 Apr 2014 and met inclusion/exclusion criteria. Before taking treatment, we took HRV and IES-R-K first to know the exact mental conditions of patients. For a week, we had taken acupuncture treatment, herb medicine treatment and physical therapy. After that, we compared patients' changes between before-treatment and after-treatment with the same examination. Results : In a period of one week, Korean medical treatment makes LF(Norm) stay within the normal range and HF(Norm) increase. But, we could not find statistical significance between two. The normal range of LF/HF ratio increased, and there was statistical significance. After treatment, the IES-R-K score tended to decrease. Statistically, korean medical treatment is useful to alleviate subjective stress by traffic accidents. Conclusions : Korean medical treatment makes the sympathetic system relax and parasympathetic system rise so it balances an autonomic nervous system. But, there is not statistical significance. Also, it gives positive effect on car accident patients' treatment in terms of easing their subjective stress. Prospective and Larger study will be necessary.

  • Objectives The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety of Non-toxic bee venom (BV) and observe VAS change before and after Non-toxic BV treatment in pain patients. Methods We surveyed the clinical practitioners who treated with Non-toxic BV in pain patients who visited the Korean medical clinic. The questionnaire survey was conducted for clinical practitioners who agreed to participate after hearing the explanation for the purpose and characteristics of the questionnaire. Patients in the questionnaires were reviewed based on their medical records from July 1, 2016 to October 28, 2016. Results We received 445 cases and selected 403 cases finally. 2 cases, however, were not able to continue treatment for 3 weeks and were eliminated. Depending on when the pain occurred, we divided the 401 cases into three groups (Acute, Subacute, Chronic group). In all groups, VAS scores were significantly decreased after treatment. Adverse reactions following Non-toxic BV treatment had occurred was 16 cases (3.60%). Except for 3 cases with hives, most of adverse reactions were mild or moderate and were not in need of extra treatment. The total safety of treatment for 3 weeks was mostly safe. The number of cases discontinued treatment was 42 cases (9.44%). Most of these cases, treatment was stopped for personal reason unrelated to the Non-toxic BV treatment. Conclusions These results suggest that the Non-toxic BV treatment has no serious adverse reactions and is a relatively safe treatment. Further studies are needed to prove the efficacy and clinical safety of Non-toxic BV treatment.
