  • This study was designed to gain insights into instrumental genesis process of CAS in Korean high school students and to explore its practical potentials in secondary mathematics education. Two activities, such as Concept-Centered Mathematics Activity based on CAS and Problem Solving Activities, were constructed and executed to 10th Grade seven students for twelve class hours. The finding on the students' activities are as follows : it is meaningful in mathematics education, especially in algebra education, in that the CAS based concept centered mathematics activity offers great opportunities to deal with high-qualified application problems. The problem solving activities based on the instrumented CAS may have an influence on the sequence of mathematics curriculum, e.g. the optimization problems may precede the calculus problems such as derivatives in high school. The results of this study to investigate the instrumental genesis of CAS in mathematical activities will give insights into the secondary mathematics curriculum to prepare the CAS in Korea.

  • The purposes of this study are to identify the types of teacher efficacy, to present a theoretical base for teacher efficacy among Home Economics teachers and subsequently, to improve the quality in the practices of home economics education. To achieve these purposes, 263 secondary school home economics teachers were surveyed by the prime investigator. The three research questions of this study were: 1. What are the individual characteristics, the environmental characteristics and the trends of teacher efficacy among secondary school home economics teachers? 2. What is the factor in teacher efficacy among secondary school home economics teachers? 3. What are the types of teacher efficacy among secondary school home economics teachers? For these research questions, factor analysis and cluster analysis were conducted. The factor analysis on teacher efficacy with a survey of secondary school home economics teachers produced 5 factors of efficacy: classroom management, needs assistance, instructional strategies, environmental assistance and teaming assistance. The teacher efficacy had a mean of 3.58 and the home economics teachers showed a slightly higher level in teacher efficacy. Of the 5 efficacy factors, classroom management showed the highest level (M=3.89), followed by learning assistance (M=3.81), instrumental strategies (M=3.57), environmental assistance (M=3.42) and needs assistance (M=3.19). Overall, the teachers had positive feeling in teacher efficacy. Three types of teachers were found in the types of teacher efficacy: the supreme, the average and the efforts-needy. Those types were identified based on the mean scores of the five sub-domains from the factor analysis. To enhance the teacher efficacy, the needs assessments for the students and behavioral adjustment issues should be reflected in the curriculum of teacher education and workshops. The primary investigator suggested that continuous and long-term plans for teacher education need to be developed because short-term plans may not be effective in changing attitudes such as teacher efficacy.

Instrument to invent science attitude consists of four domains as 'Scientific Inquiry', 'Importance of Contribution to Science', 'Normality of Scientist', and 'Social Value of Science'. Inventory instrument have 20 items(Likert scale of 1 to 5). Subjects are 70 middle school, 72 high school, and 95 university students. There is no significant difference among students by school, but the attitude level toward science of female students is lower than that of male students. 'Importance of Contribution to Science' among four domains has the highest score of attitude toward science, whereas 'Normality of Scientist' has the lowest attitude score toward science. To bring up scientific abilities of students, we conclude that it needs the educational plan to increase science attitude of students, through improving and developing curricular system and science curriculum for the secondary school and university.

Methods: This cross sectional study used secondary data from the 2013 Adolescent Health Behavior Online Survey. A total of 35,905 high school students were included in the study. Logistic regression was used for analysis of the influence of moderate and vigorous physical activity on smoking experience in a month and smoking intensity. Results: Adolescents with low (Adjusted OR: 1.242, 95% CI: 1.075~1.436) and moderate level (Adjusted OR: 1.094, 95% CI: 1.005~1.189) of moderate physical activity had more smoking experience than reference group, high level of physical activity. Also, smoking experience was more prevalent adolescents with low (Adjusted OR: 1.191, 95% CI: 1.064~1.333) and moderate level (Adjusted OR: 1.134, 95% CI: 1.039~1.237) of vigorous physical activity. Heavy smoking was more prevalent among adolescents who had low level of vigorous physical activity (Adjusted OR: 1.912, 95% CI: 1.347~2.712). Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, physical activity has significant influence on smoking experience and smoking intensity. Therefore, physical activity should be included smoking cessation and smoking prevention program for High School Students.

  • Elementary/secondary school must make the scheme for the Low Carbon Green Growth embodiment because of the environmental problems and the Low Carbon Green Growth Policy for responding to global environmental crisis. This paper proposes a plan to make green elementary/secondary school model through the educational information. It divides into 'Greening of IT Information Resources' and 'Greening of Education Environment' through the educational information'. It is expected to embody Green School if these projects are realized to the elementary/secondary school. 'Greening of IT Information Resources' suggests the guideline necessary to the introduction of IT products, the method to abandon considering recycling IT products and environmental information infrastructure model. 'Greening of Education Environment' proposes the IT green practice method for teachers and students to keep and shows the practice of various educational information service to seek a conversion to low carbon education environment. It is expected to embody Green School if these projects are realized to the elementary/secondary school.

According to test of significance in regression analysis, the independent variables such as sex, school grade, smoking parents, friends distinction, pocket money and others showed statistical significance. 4. There was a statistical significance between smokers and nonsmokers in proportion to the completing the preventive education for nonsmoking(p=0.0023) and the acquirement of knowledge on smoking(p<.0001). 5. Finally there was a statistical significance between the exposure to anti-smoking campaign(p=0.0053) and tobacco advertisement in the mass media and the smoking(p=0.0036). • The purpose of this study was to examine the fast food consumption patterns of secondary school students in Busan. Secondary school students in Busan area were asked in a survey about their perception and attitudes towards fast food (n=968, response rate: 92%). Most respondents answered that they consume fast food once a month because it is fast, easily accessible and tasty. Although they perceived fast food as unhealthy and less nutritious, they were less aware of its effect on their eating patterns: a clear indication of their limited knowledge on dietary impact. The more knowledgeable respondents were about nutrition and health, the less likely they were to choose fast food over other meals. However, respondents who had little or no knowledge about the nutritional factors of fast food accounted for 43.1%. Our study suggests that development of effective nutrition and health education is crucial to adolescent population. This study will enable educators to plan more effective strategies for improving the dietary knowledge of the adolescent population.
