  • The ribosome is a protein synthesizing machinery and a ribonucleoprotein complex that consists of three ribosomal RNAs (23S, 16S and 5S) and 54 ribosomal proteins in bacteria. In the course of ribosome assembly, ribosomal proteins (r-protein) and rRNAs are modified, the r-proteins bind to rRNAs to form ribonucleoprotein complexes which are folded into mature ribosomal subunits. In this process, a number of non-ribosomal trans-acting factors organize the assembly process of the components. Those factors include GTP- and ATP-binding proteins, rRNA and r-protein modification enzymes, chaperones, and RNA helicases. During ribosome biogenesis, they participate in the modifications of ribosomal proteins and RNAs, and the assemblies of ribosomal proteins with rRNAs. Ribosomes can be assembled from a discrete set of components in vitro, and it is notable that in vivo ribosome assembly is much faster than in vitro ribosome assembly. This suggests that non-ribosomal ribosome assembly factors help to overcome several kinetic traps in ribosome biogenesis process. In spite of accumulation of genetic, structural, and biochemical data, not only the entire procedure of bacterial ribosome synthesis but also most of roles of ribosome assembly factors remain elusive. Here, we review ribosome assembly factors involved in the ribosome maturation of Escherichia coli, and summarize the contributions of several ribosome assembly factors which associate with 50S and 30S ribosomal subunits, respectively.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the changes of regional clusters of national 16 areas on the assembly & demonstration in 2010 and 2015. The results of this study were as follows by using hierarchical cluster analysis. First, the regional clusters on the assembly & demonstration in 2010 were divided into three clusters in the first step: (1) Gwangju, Chungnam, Incheon, Chungbuk, Gyeongbuk, Daegu, Gangwon, Jeju, Daejeon, (2) Jeonnam, Gyeongnam, Busan, Jeonbuk, Ulsan, Gyeonggi, (3) Seoul. Second, the regional clusters on the assembly & demonstration in 2015 were divided into three clusters in the first step: (1) Ulsan, Gangwon, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Incheon, Gyeongbuk, Jeonnam, Gwangju, Jeju, Daegu, Daejeon, (2) Busan, Jeonbuk, Gyeongnam, (3) Seoul, Gyunggi. Third, The regional clusters on the assembly & demonstration were Busan, Jeonbuk, Gyeongnam of 'assembly & demonstration management area(labor related)', and Seoul, Gyeonggi of 'assembly & demonstration frequency areas' in 2015. This suggests that policing policies related to assembly & demonstration can be established and implemented flexibly in consideration of the degree of increase and decrease in assembly & demonstration by districts. Furthermore, it will be helpful to manage assembly & demonstration based on the 'police for human rights'.

  • FePt nanoparticles suspension was synthesized by reduction of platinum acetylacetonate and decomposition of iron pentacarbonyl in the presence of oleic acid and oleyl amine. FePt nanoparticles were coated on a substrate by convective assembly from the suspension. To prevent the coalescence during the annealing of FePt nanoparticles double convective coatings were tried. First convective coating was for silica particle assembly on a silicon substrate and second one was for FePt nanoparticles on the previously coated silica layers. It was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) that FePt nanoparticles were dispersed on the silica particle surface. After annealing at $700^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes under nitrogen atmosphere, FePt nanoparticles on silica particles were maintained in a dispersed state with slight increase of particle size. On the contrary, FePt nanoparticles that were directly coated on silicon substrate showed severe particle growth after annealing due to the close-packing of nanoparticles during assembly. The size variation during annealing was also verified by X-ray diffractometer (XRD). It was suggested that pre-coating, which offered solvent flux oppose to the capillary force between FePt nanoparticles, was an effective method to prevent coalescence of nano-sized particles under high temperature annealing.

  • In a pressurized water reactor (PWR), control rod assembly (CRA) falls into the guide tubes of a fuel assembly due to gravity for scram. Various theoretical approaches and numerical analyses have been performed because its shape is simple and its design was completely developed several decades ago. A control rod assembly for a sodium-cooled faster reactor (SFR) which is geometrically more complicated is being actively developed in Korea nowadays. Drop time and impact velocity of a CRA are important parameters with respect to reactivity insertion time and the mechanical robustness of a CRA and a guide duct. In this paper, computational method considering simultaneously the equation of motion for rigid body and the Navier-Stokes equations for fluid is suggested and verified by comparison with theoretical analysis results. Through this valuable CFD analysis method, drop time and impact velocity of initially designed SFR CRA are evaluated before performing scram tests with it.

  • This paper presents the results of 'The Survey on the 21st National Assembly members' conducted by the Korean Association of Party Studies (KAPS) and the Hankyoreh following the 21st Korean National Assembly Election. Since the 16th Korean National Assembly Election, the KAPS has surveyed the candidates and/or the elected regarding their views on major policy issues and perceived self-ideology, which has contributed to our understanding of overtime changes in ideology of political parties in South Korea and their members. This year's survey includes 21 questions on the four major policy issue areas including foreign policy, economy, social issues and cultural issues as well as their perceived ideology. Among the 300 elected, 197 participated in the survey. The results suggest that the Justice Party is most liberal, the United Future Party is most conservative, and the Democratic Party is in the middle on average in terms of issue preference and perceived ideology. Compared to the preceding National Assembly, the partisan gap continues to appear salient in foreign policy, economy, and the cultural issues. In contrast, the gap narrows down in the social issues because the members of the Democratic Party embrace more conservative preference. It is noteworthy to examine whether this shift leads to cooperative decision making on social policies between liberal and conservative parties in the upcoming National Assembly. The composite policy preference index of individual assembly members, on the other hand, shows significant difference among members of different parties. Political parties in South Korea has evolved from a group of people from the same region into a group of people with distinctive policy preferences.

  • This study investigates the interference of politics of regional cleavage in the redistricting for national assembly election and its effects on gerrymandering and malapportionment. Since the Constitutional Assembly election, the argument about gerrymandering and malapportionment continues and the single-member election district with simple plurality system in Korea has aggravated the problem of cleavage and unfairness. Especially, redistrictings for national assembly election in 2008 and 2012 are suspected of gerrymandering by Saenuri party and Democratic United party. Yeongnam region where Saenuri party is dominant and Honam region where Democratic United party is, are over-represented compared to population, while the districts in Gyeonggi-do are under-represented and the need for increasing the number of districts has been ignored. These redistrictings might come from unfair and collusive interference of politics of regional cleavage, and consequently malapportionment has been brought about.

  • CdTe nanoribbons feature their unique optical properties compared with CdTe nanoparticles. Slow oxidation of tellurium ions on CdTe nanoparticles resulted in the organization of individual nanoparticle into nanoribbons. The light-controlled self-assembly of CdTe nanoparticles led to twisted ribbons. It was found that irradiation improved the oxidation of tellurium ions. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were performed to characterize the synthesized nanostructures and showed nanowires were twisted after self-assembly. The photoluminescence was slightly blue-shifted from 550 to 544 nm. This synthetic procedure could potentially provide a key step toward the fabrication of nanowires.

  • This study empirically analyzed the recognition and current status of university libraries related to the legal deposit of thesis and dissertation and investigated the ways to activate legal deposit to National Assembly Library. As a result, most universities conduct legal deposit of thesis and dissertation. However, most librarians face difficulties resulted from the duplication of deposits to many institutions. In the case that the deposits are not made, the main reasons are the university library's policies, duplication and inefficiency of the deposit procedures, and the limitation of obtaining copyright agreements. In order to address these limitations and to maximize the social and informational values of thesis and dissertation, this research proposed approaches to legal deposit of thesis and dissertation, including strengthening digital deposit system through the establishment of independent legal deposit law, preparing the effective ways of preservation. constructing an integrated deposit system, and developing professional collection of thesis and dissertation which can consolidate National Assembly Library.

  • A new method is introduced to build up organic/organic multilayer films composed of cationic poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and negatively charged poly (sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS) using the spinning process. The adsorption process is governed by both the viscous force induced by fast solvent elimination and the electrostatic interaction between oppositely charged species. On the other hand, the centrifugal and air shear forces applied by the spinning process significantly enhances desorption of weakly bound polyelectrolyte chains and also induce the planarization of the adsorbed polyelectrolyte layer. The film thickness per bilayer adsorbed by the conventional dipping process and the spinning process was found to be about 4 ${\AA}$ and 24 ${\AA}$, respectively. The surface of the multilayer films prepared with the spinning process is quite homogeneous and smooth. Also, a new approach to create multilayer ultrathin films with well-defined micropatterns in a short process time is Introduced. To achieve such micropatterns with high line resolution in organic multilayer films, microfluidic channels were combined with the convective self-assembly process employing both hydrogen bonding and electrostatic intermolecular interactions. The channels were initially filled with polymer solution by capillary pressure and the residual solution was then removed by the .spinning process.

  • This paper considers the sequencing problem in mixed model assembly lines with hybrid workstation types and sequence-dependent setup times. Computation time is often a critical factor in choosing a method of determining the sequence. We develop a mathematical formulation of the problem to minimize the overall length of a line, and present a tabu search technique which can provide a near optimal solution in real time. The proposed technique is compared with a genetic algorithm and a branch-and-bound method. Experimental results are reported to demonstrate the efficiency of the technique.
