A Statistical Analysis of Outpatients in Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology of Korean Medicine at Kyung Hee University Korean Medicine Hospital in 2018-2022 (2018-2022년 경희대학교 한방병원 한방 안이비인후과 외래환자에 대한 통계분석)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to figure out the changes in sex, age, disease distribution of outpatients in ophthalmology and otolaryngology of Korean medicine. Methods : We analyzed the medical records of 2,834 outpatients who visited department of ophthalmology and otolaryngology of Korean medicine at Kyung Hee university Korean medicine hospital between 2018 and 2022. And we compared the results with those of studies from 2000, 2007, and 2017, considering sex, age, and diseases. Results : 1. The total number of patients in ophthalmology and otolaryngology increased compared to 2012-2016, with a higher proportion of patients aged 50 and above in all departments. 2. The number of patients in ophthalmology has been continuously decreasing since 1996-1998. 3. The number of patients in otology has increased significantly compared to 2012-2016, with a trend towards a lower proportion of tinnitus and hearing loss. 4. The number of patients in rhinology has not recovered from the significant decrease in 2012-2016, and rhinitis continues to constitute a significant proportion. 5. The number of patients in laryngology has increased significantly compared to 2012-2016, with a trend towards a less proportion of laryngopharyngitis. Conclusion : The active utilization of diagnostic equipment, further research and promotion of Korean medicine treatment for ophthalmology and otholaryngology diseases are essential for expanding the treatment domain within ophthalmology and otolaryngology of Korean medicine.

5 Cases of Rhinosinusitis Diagnosed and Evaluated by OMU CT (컴퓨터 단층촬영(OMU CT)을 통해 진단 평가된 비부비동염 5례)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean medicine treatment on rhinosinusitis by showing OMU(ostiomeatal unit) CT(computed tomography). Methods : The clinical study was done on 5 cases of rhinosinusitis patients diagnosed by OMU CT. The patients were treated with herbal medicine and acupuncture. OMU CT was taken after treatment. Results & Conclusions : After treatment, 5 rhinosinusitis patients were improved in symptoms and remarkable resolutions of rhinosinusitis in OMU CT were observed. These results suggest that Korean medical therapy could be a safe and effective intervention in rhinosinusitis and we need to have more studies for objective evaluations of Korean medicine treatment.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to develop clinical practice program using reflective journals in the department of Korean medicine ophthalomology & otolaryngology & dermatology. Methods : It was applied to clinical practice and considered the adequacy of the clinical practice program using reflective journal for students who complete the clinical practice. Result : Students are given high marks for self-directed learning and Korean medicine ophththalomology & otolaryngology & dermatology professional learning.

An Expert Survey for Developing the Pattern Diagnosis Instrument of Acne (여드름 변증 유형 도구 개발을 위한 전문가 설문조사 연구)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to develop a Pattern Diagnosis Instrument of Acne in traditional Korean Medicine. Methods : Data was collected by structured survey papers from 20 professors of The Korean Oriental Medical Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology & Dermatology Society(Delphi method). We investigated importance rates of the symptoms of each Pattern in the survey papers, then calculated Weighted Value of the symptoms. Results : Nine objective symptoms and nine subjective symptoms were selected by investigated importance rate in the survey from 20 professors of The Korean Oriental Medical Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology & Dermatology Society. In Wind-Heat pattern(WHP, 風熱型), inflammatory lesion of acne was the most important symptom. Oily skin, nodule and effect of menstruation are the most important symptoms in Dampness-Heat pattern(DHP, 濕熱型), Phlegm-Stasis pattern(PSP, 痰瘀型) and Disharmony of the thoroughfare and conception vessels pattern(DTCVP, 衝任不調型) each. Conclusions : The results might provide backgrounds and methods for clinical care of acne and follow-up study.

2 Cases of Alopecia areata treated with Korean Medicine (피부건조증을 동반한 다발성 원형탈모증 한의 치험 2례)

  • Objectives : This study is designed to investigate the effects of Korean medical therapy on 2 Alopecia areata. Methods : This is a case report on 2 patients who has been suffering from alopecia areata. To reduce their symptoms, we provided with internal herbal medicine 2 times a day, acupuncture therapy and Hwangryunhaedok-tang herbal-acupuncture therapy for three or four months. Results : After series of treatments, the symptoms of Alopecia areata were remarkably improved. Conclusions : This study shows us that Korean medical treatment effects on Alopecia areata.
