This study was conducted to investigate the potential of chicken feather (CF), which is a by-product in poultry industry, as a partial substitute of wood fiber in the production of wood-based fiberboard. Keratin-type protein constituted the majority of CF, and its appearance did not differ from that of wood fiber. When the formaldehyde (HCHO) adsorptivities of CF compared by its pretreatment type, feather meal (FM), which was pretreated CF with high temperature and pressure and then grounded, showed the highest HCHO adsorptivity. In addition, there was no difference between the adsorbed HCHO amounts, which was measured by dinitrophenylhydrazine method, of scissors-chopped CF and CF beated with an electrical blender. Mechanical properties and HCHO emission of medium-density fiberboards (MDF), which were fabricated with wood fiber and 5 wt% CF, beated CF or FM based on the oven-dried weight of wood fiber, were not influenced by the pretreatment type of CF. However, when the values compared with those of MDF made with just wood fiber, thickness swelling and HCHO emission of the MDF were improved greatly with the addition of CF, beated CF or FM. Based on the results, it might be possible to produce MDF with improved dimensional stability and low HCHO emission if CF, beated CF or FM is added partially as a substitute of wood fiber in the manufacturing process of MDF produced with the conventional urea-formaldehyde resin of $E_1$ grade. However, the use of CF or FM in the production of MDF has a low economic feasibility at the current situation due to the securing difficulty and high cost of CF. In order to enhance the economic feasibility, it requires to use CF produced at small to medium-sized chicken meat plants. More importantly, it is considered that the technology developed from this research has a great potential to make provision for the prohibition of animal-based feed and to dispose environmentally avian influenza-infected poultry.
The quality characteristics of Takju were investigated according to the different rice varieties and mixing ratio of Nuruk for the advanced quality of Takju. The yeast was selected by alcohol-producing ability. Then a liquid starter was prepared using brewing fungi (Aspergillus luchuensis 34-1 and Lichtheimia ramosa CN042), and rice Nuruk was manufactured with two rice types (Chucheong and Hanareum). The quality characteristics of Takju were investigated based on the rice type and the mixing ratio of A. luchuensis 34-1 and Lich. ramosa CN042 (1:0, 0:1, 1:1, 1:3). S. cerevisiae Y268 showed an alcohol yield of $9.3{\pm}0.33%$ at a 0.3% concentration in the YPD broth medium, and the rice Nuruk with A. luchuensis 34-1, regardless of rice type, was confirmed to have a higher enzyme activity and physiochemical property than Lich. ramosa CN042. According to the quality analysis of Takju, the physiochemical property was increased for the fermentation period, and the acidity differed by type of fungi and rice. The quality of Takju was changed with the composition differences of organic acid and free amino acid by rice type and mixing ratio. As a result of the sensory evaluation of Takju, the preference for it was increased with the Hanareum and A. luchuensis 34-1, respectively. Thus, this study shows the possibilities for activating the industry of traditional liquor by improving the Nuruk and Takju manufacturing technique.
The maize production in South-eastern Asian countries showed a continuous increase with increasing poultry-livestock from the beginning of the 1990s to early 2010. Also the need for a new variety development of each contries was increased rapidly in the same period. Single-Cross hybrid varieties have been developed and supplied from 2001 instead of multi-cross maize varieties since 1992 in Indonesia. In Cambodia, CP group is mainly manufacturing feeds with most of the forage maize from farmers who are growing its seeds from the company. Cambodian main cultivars are varieties of multinational corporations such as DK8868 from Monsanto, NK6326, NK7328 from Syngenta and CP333 from CP group including local business company. Vietnam is the main maze importing country in South-Eastern Asia which had imported 13 times scale of amount compared to exports in average from 1990 to 2011. Vietnamese government has developed a range of varieties for improving their efficiency in production, such as the LVN-10 with political investments. Their production has been reached to 80% of the total. According to the 2012 MIFAFF (Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries) data in Korea, domestic edible maize cultivation area was approximately 15,000ha. It showed 74,399 tons of production, 3.8% of food self-sufficiency in maize and around 0.9% of grain self-sufficiency rate. The consumption of grain is mostly rely on imports in Korea. To overcome the limit of the domestic seed market and increase maize self-sufficiency, the need to develop maze varieties for world-class is increasing at present through analyzing the market trend and prospect of the seed industry in South-eastern Asia.

In this study, we report the results of a study on the clinical evaluation of wrinkle improvement by developing a method for liposome of high-purity Centella asiatica extract used in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, and a cream using the same. In order to make Centellasome-10EX stabilizing centella asiatica extract in liposome lamella vesicle, it could be completed using 5% hydrogenated lecithin and 2% sucrose distearate. The appearance of Centellasome-10EX was a creamy form of low viscosity, the color was pale yellow, and the odor had the inherent odor of the raw material. The pH was about 6.12, the specific gravity was 1.09, and the acid value was about 0.35. The content of the main constituents of centella asiatica extract contained in the liposome vesicle contains 10,800 ppm of asiatic acid, 10,900 ppm of asiaticoside, 6,000 ppm of madecasic acid, and 1,600 ppm of madecassoside, and long-term storage. There was no discoloration even at the time, and it was found that the main component remained stable thermodynamically. To mechanistically analyze the structure of the liposome vesicle of Centellasome-10EX, as a result of observation with a transmission electron microscope (Cryo-TEM), the multilayer vesicles are formed and filled with moisture, and there are 10 to 60 multilayers around it. It was confirmed that the liposome lamella vesicle was formed. As a clinical trial (in-vivo) test, the moisturizing effect of centellasome cream after application for 5 weeks was 28.3%, which was significantly increased compared to placebo. The skin elasticity effect was 13.6%, which significantly increased the moisturizing power than the placebo. The effect of improving fine wrinkles around the eyes was improved by 23.52% compared to placebo cream. Through the results of this study, it was possible to study the formulation and manufacturing method for encapsulation and stabilization of the developed Centellasome-10EX in the liposome vesicle. It is expected that the results obtained through clinical research on the wrinkle improvement effect of the cream using this can be widely used to study skin science in the cosmetic industry and to develop high-quality cosmetics with high efficacy.
1. Object and importance of the research. The exports of plywood are increasing annually and it has ranked first in the world market because of the high quality product developed and manufactured using modern techniques. However, it is known that the exports of the other wood products, except plywood, is inactive because of their low quality. Accordingly, to increase the exports of various wood products investigations were carried out on kiln drying techniques to improve the quality of the wood. 2. The details and scope of the research Wet wood should be kiln dried before use to prevent various drying defects such as distortion, shrinkage etc, which would develop after processing, and also wet wood is not suitable for cutting, gluing and finishing. Therefore, the kiln drying properties of lumber from such species as Persimmon, Oak, Ramin and Meranti which are used in large quantity for manufacturing exporting wood products have been studied. Also the real state of kiln drying industry in Korea was investigated. 3. Results and proposal for practical use of the research 3. 1 Results of the research 3.1.1 The end checks and the time for drying from intial moisture content of about 40 percent to 5 percent moisture content in ovendry were investigated as Table 1. 3.1.2 The kiln dried results, for 30mm stock, which are presented by using kiln schedule Table 2 are as Table 3. 3.1.3 The kiln schedule for Persimmon which has a normal drying properties is given in Table 4. However, the persimmon which has easy checking properties should be air dried under a relative humidity of above 85% until reaching about 25 percent moisture content. 3.1.4 The kiln schedules for ramin, meranti and oak are given respectively as follows. Ramin kiln schedule ............ Table 5 and Table 6 Meranti kiln schedule ............ Table 7 Oak kiln schedule ............ This study was carried out to investigate the management and support system affecting to the occupational health nursing services(OHNS) provided in group occupational health agencies(GOHA). Questionnaire was developed and distributed to 82 nurses who were working in GOHA and who agreed to participate in the survey. The results were as follow: 1. OH nurses responded were mostly in the age of twenty to thirties(89%), married(73.7%), technical college graduates(88.9%), worked in hospital(85.4%) and participated more than 1 year in group occupational health services (96.3%). 2. Fifty eight point four percent of the OH nurses worked in number of workplace more than 30 to less than 60 in the OHNS form. The figure of workplaces undertaken by nurses was ranged greatly from 9 to more than 100. Number of employees who cared by nurses were mostly under 5,000 peoples in 93.3%. The types of industry was mostly manufacturing and located in the order of factory complex area, suburban, urban and others. 3. Most OH nurses(87.8%) were fully involved in the OHNS for the SSE. Their working days to visit SSE was 5 days per week(77.8%) and one day in the GOHA at 41.3%. 4. The OH documents using by nurses were found in more than 23 different types. However, they were largely summarized in the types of 'Workplace Health Management Card', 'Personal Health Counselling Card', 'Daily Health Management Report', 'Visiting List of Workplace' and 'Sick Employee List'. 5. The items of laboratory test provided by GOHA were mostly achieved in the purpose of basic health examination. They were used to be the blood pressure check(98.8%), blood sugar test (98.8%), urine sugar and protein(91.4%), SGOT and SGPT(85.3% each), cholesterol (82.9%), hepa vaccine immunization(82.9%), r-GPT(81.7%), hemoglobin(79.3%) and triglyceride(75.5%). 6. The OH nurses(92.7%) followed the work pattern to visit the GOHA before and after small-scale enterprises(SSE) visit by car driven by nurses in 74.3%. They were payed by GOHA for transportation fees in certain amounts. However, nurse is the main person(75.0%) who covers up in case of traffic accident. If the GOHA has no transportation regulation for the formal workplace visit, data showed that nurses had been responsible to take charge(31.7%). 7. The personnel manager who takes in charge for nursing services was 'nurse' in 61.7% and 41.2% worked as the final decision maker related to nursing work. The OH nurses' opinions about factors affecting to the management were classified in the four areas such as 'Nature(Quality) of health professional'. 'Content of OHNS', 'Delivery system of the GOHS', and 'Others'. The factors were indicated highly in 'Authority as health professional', 'Level of perception of director on the OH' and 'Physical work condition for OHNS'. The things that this study suggests in the recommendation would be summarized in such as the management and supporting system working for SSE in the OHNS is necessary to reform thoroughly. The reconsidered aspects might be in the matters of number of workplaces undertaken by nurses, development of effectively practical health documents, preparation for guideline of the laboratory test in the workpleces, establishment of convenient and encouraging support system and cooperation between other health professionals with respect and skill.

We investigated blueberry wine made using traditional yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae M-5) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae Fermivin which is widely used in wine manufacturing, and measured its fermentative characteristics and antioxidant activity. S. cerevisiae M-5 is a traditional yeast isolated from domestically grown Black raspberry (Rubus occidentalis). Both S. cerevisiae M-5 and Fermivin were inoculated into blueberry juice (BBJ) up to $1{\times}10^9CFU/kg$, followed by incubation at $25^{\circ}C$ for 39 days. Final fermentation products of blueberry fermented with S. cerevisiae M-5 (BBM) presented 13.10% alcohol, $8.42^{\circ}Bx$ of sugar, and 1.183% acidity, and final fermentation products of blueberry fermented with Fermivin (BBF) presented 14.20% alcohol, $8.2^{\circ}Bx$ of sugar, and 1.153% acidity. The contents of total polyphenol and flavonoid compounds of BBM were higher than those of BBF and BBJ. DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities and reducing power of BBM were higher than those of BBF. The sensory evaluation revealed that BBM showed excellent flavor, taste, and overall acceptability compared with BBF. Based on these results, the possibility of industrial utilization of S. cerevisiae M-5 as traditional yeast was confirmed by sensory evaluation and antioxidant activity. Fermentation rate of S. cerevisiae M-5 was similar to Fermivin, which is used in the food industry.
The Capacity of wood to absorb water is very important as the basis data for wood industry, particularly in preservatives impregnation, manufacturing of improved wood, selection of packing boards, etc. In this study differences in Water absorbing Capacity of wood by structual section, water soaking time were investigated. (1) The species used in this investigation were Larix olgensis Henry Var. Koreana Nakai and Juglans mandshurica Max., and dimension of these testing wood block was $30{\times}30{\times}100cm$; and these were soaked in fresh water of $25{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ for 8.5day and 0.5 day, before measurement. (2) The result showed that the water absorption by cross sections was greater than by either radial or tangential section and there were no differences between radial and tangential section. (3) The water absorption of Juglans mandshurica Max. which has the relatively low specific gravity was greater than Larix olgensis Henry Var. Koreana Nakai which has generally high specific gravity. (4) The result showed an increase in the absorbed water with increase in the length of soaking time. However the water absorption rate during the early period of soaking was very high and thereafter the rate decreased with passage of time. More than a half of the total water absorption was achieved during the first 2 days approximately. (5) The relationships between the length of the soaking-time and water absorption were found to be as follows : Larix olgensis Henry Var. Koreana Nakai Cross section : $y=111.1{\times}^{0.6516}$ radial section : $y=32.2{\times}^{0.5146}$ tangential section : $y=36.5{\times}^{0.5112}$ Juglans mandshurica Max. Cross section : $y=216.1{\times}^{0.5914}$ radial section : $y=27.9{\times}^{0.5832}$ tangential section : $y=50.9{\times}^{0.4769}$ Where : y is amount of water absorption ($mg/cm^2$) x is water-soaking time (days).

The fermentation of non-digestible soy meal can convert polysaccharides into many compounds that have a wide variety of biological functions. Bacillus strains are capable of hydrolyzing non-digestible saccharides, such as melibiose, raffinose, and stachyose, found in soy meal components. A highly active ${\alpha}$-galactosidase (${\alpha}$-d-galactoside galactohydrolase, EC 3.2.1.22) was isolated from a bacterium in a traditional Korean fermented medicinal herb preparation. The isolate, T2-16, was identified as Bacillus coagulans based on its 16S rRNA sequence and biochemical properties, and the strain was named Bacillus coagulans NRR-1207. When incubated in 10%(w/v) skim milk, Bacillus coagulans NRR1207 caused a decrease in the pH of the culture medium, as well as an increase in titratable acidity and viable cell counts. This strain also showed higher activities of ${\alpha}$-galactosidase, ${\beta}$-galactosidase, ${\alpha}$-glucosidase, naphthol-AS-BO-phosphohydrolase, and acid phosphatase when compared to other enzymes. It hydrolyzed oligomeric substrates, such as raffinose and stachyose, and liberated galactose, indicating that the Bacillus coagulans NRR1207 ${\alpha}$-galactosidase hydrolyzed the ${\alpha}$-1,6 glycoside linkage. These results suggest that the decreased stachyose and raffinose contents observed in fermented soy meal are due to this ${\alpha}$-galactosidase activity. Bacillus coagulans NRR1207 therefore has potential probiotic activity and could be utilized in feed manufacturing, as well as for hydrolyzing non-digestible soy meal components.
This study references preceding studies to examine the history of paint application techniques using various paints in the past, with the aim to contribute to the long-term preservation of large military cultural heritage assets situated outdoors. To this end, the study compared the findings of preceding research with the findings of an analysis conducted on a H-13 helicopter housed at the War Memorial of Korea. Upon collecting and analyzing samples from three grounded WWII aircraft from above-ground by preceding studies, it was confirmed from each sample that the various chemical properties of chrome ensured the effectiveness of the protective coating. The compound was first tested as a corrosion-inhibiting pigment in the early 1940s and proved its excellent moisture-resistant properties over the course of 80 years, despite the deterioration of the paint layer and long-term exposure to the natural environment. For this reason, it has been widely used as a corrosion inhibitor for aluminum alloys in the aviation industry. In other word, the most widely-used material for preventing corrosion was an organic primer containing chromate. In this study, based on the paint analysis of a H-13 helicopter operated in the Korean War, it was shown that the second layer, consisting of the primer, contains chromium oxide (Cr2O3). In addition, it was estimated that red lead tetraoxide (Pb3O4) was used for the vehicle. Analysis results and data from previous studies can help to confirm the continued effectiveness of corrosion prevention function provided by chromate. Meanwhile, the result of infrared spectroscopy analysis confirmed the use of alkyd resin. In the future, comparisons with a more diverse range of artifacts will allow the identification of changes in the manufacturing technology of paints used to protect alloys from corrosion.
