This study examines the current status of smart manufacturing innovation policies in Germany and Korea, compares and analyzes the supply industry strategies of both countries, and suggests the direction for Korea's smart manufacturing innovation supply industry. Germany's supply industry strategy aims to strengthen the market dominance of domestic suppliers through high technology, compatibility, and high reliability based on reference for global demanding companies. On the other hand, the Korea's supply industry strategy remains at the level improvement of the demanding companies by stage, so it is time to take a long-term and consistent response with the goal of implementing smartization at the advanced level. By referring to Germany's supply industry strategy for the advancement of smart factories, it was intended to help in establishing government support policies and supplier strategies. In addition, based on the analysis results of the supply industry strategies of both countries, improvement measures for the advancement of Korea's smart factories were presented. Ultimately, the contents of this study can be used as basic data for policy establishment to strengthen the industrial competitiveness of Korea's small and medium-sized suppliers.

This study attempted an AHP analysis through interview with experts in the industries and questionnaire survey on recognition of organization members and future strategic development direction in order to upgrade shipbuilding equipment industries to marine plant equipment industries. Key research results are as follows. First, according to analysis on relative priority between three aspects on acceleration of shipbuilding equipment industries, importance was shown in the order of acceleration of internal competence, acceleration of manufacturing technology, and acceleration of supply chain, which means that the aspect on acceleration of internal competence had relatively higher importance. Second, as for relative importance of detailed item evaluation per respective aspect, it was found that development of core competencies was high from the aspect on acceleration of internal competence, higher value-addition was high from the aspect on acceleration of manufacturing technology, and IT infrastructure construction was high from the aspect on acceleration of supply chain.

In dies manufacturing industry, quality, cost, and production leadtime are very important. In this study, we describe the current status and characteristics of dies industry in Korea. AS a case study, we introduce a CIM system implemented in a leading dies manufacturer and describe its components and functions. Subsequently, we analyze the effectiveness of the CIM system by using the real data between 1987 and 1992 from the company. It is indicated that the most significant impact of CIM is the reduced cost, followed by increased sales, reduced leadtime, and improved quality of dies. All these four variables show positive correlations with one another. However, the data indicate that the number of employees are not directly related with other variables : probably because additional personnel are required for operating new technology such as CAD/CAM and information network.

The purpose of this analysis is to collect the information on managerial aspects for improving the profitability of silk reeling industry in Korea. Various finacial statistics including balance sheet, profit and loss statement and manufacturing cost statement were analyzed by use of 21 randomly selected enterprise data prepared report by Korea sericultural association during 1972∼1974. The results are as follows. 1. The ratio of profit to sales is the most important factor affecting the profitability of silk reeling industry. 2. This ratio is controlled by the general management and selling cost. 3. The ratio of manufacturing expenses shows a high correlation to the production cost of raw silk.
