유아 언어교육에 대한 교사의 인식 및 요구 - 유아 언어교육의 목적, 내용, 방법, 평가 및 요구를 중심으로 (The early childhood teacher's recognition and demand on children's language education - focused on purpose, contents, method, evaluation and the required facts of children's language education)

  • This study had been done to investigate that early childhood teacher's recognition and demand on children's language education and 20 early childhood teachers were interviewed individually who work at state-owned/ public-owned/ private-owned kindergardens residing G, I, and K cities in Jeollabuk-do. First, the purpose of language education was recognized on the formations of essence, concept, expertise, technique and attitude toward language. Second, the contents of language education must be selected by children's experience that they encounter in ordinary life based on oral language and written language. Besides, early childhood teachers strongly felt the necessity of new contents of language education, although they thought of insufficiency of their knowledge on the issue. Third, the method of language education was mainly accomplished by teaching material and objects. Besides, they were aware of looking for new organized teaching methods and also concerned of the importances of teacher's attitude and group formation method. Fourth, the evaluation of language education must be acquired by desirable evaluation method that was based on the recognition of children's unrealistic language capabilities, even though they had recognized the difficulty to do because of knowledge insufficiency. They also showed the tendency of negligence on the evaluation of language education. Fifth, the required facts for early childhood teachers on language education were development and supply of teaching materials, demand on teacher's education and appropriate evaluation method, and cognitive changes on language education by public toward the written language.

Effects on the Use of Two Textbooks for Four Types of Classes in a South Korean University

  • This paper determined students' ranks of difficulty on the use of materials in terms of 1) understanding the layout of the learning materials, 2) reading comprehension of the learning materials, and 3) realization on relevance to needs of the learning materials. It also determined students' 4) rank and frequency of attitude on the materials. With the data gathered through 128 survey questionnaires, 7 focused group discussions, and 10 interviews, the results were found out that there was an inappropriate assessment procedure set by this particular university. The researcher concludes that: 1) design of four types of classes by just using the two textbooks with their respective workbooks is grammar-based with limited conversation activities; 2) placement for these students in one big class size was implemented without considering their common interest and motivation and language levels; and, 3) qualification of teachers teaching these EFL students did not support students' real needs and the language program itself. Content professors who were made to teach may have the ability to input learning, but their teaching styles may differ from the ones who are real English teachers. This paper then recommends that teachers and school administration should have an appropriate placement exam before students attend the class, especially in a big class size. There could only be a few problems among students in one big class size when students' level of competence is proportioned. With this, topics and conversation activities can even be more flexible with the maneuver of art of questioning, various dimensions of thinking, strategic competence, learning attitude or behavior, etc. to ensure sustenance of communicative mode and level of interest and motivation in the classroom. Grammar-based instruction can only be taught when a need arises. Thus, the course description of each class will be able to transact the objectives ready for developing students' communication competence. Moreover, proper measurement can be utilized to validly assess the amount of students' learning and the progress of language curriculum design in terms of materials selection and teaching approach.

An Application of Announcing techniques to the teaching of speech for non-native speakers of Japanese

  • In this paper I will examine some concrete examples of the obstacles faced by non-native speakers of Japanese when learning the language. I will go on to suggest ways in which these obstacles may be overcome. Nowadays there are numerous Japanese language books available for non-native speakers. However, most of these introductory Japanese language books focus on topics such as pronunciation, accent and intonation. Notable, these introductory textbooks provide insufficient emphasis on prosodic features of the Japanese language. The Japanese language has been considered by many teachers as relatively easy compared to other languages, due to its simple phonetic structure. This may be a partial explanation of the reason why the teaching of prosodic features has generally been given insufficient emphasis. To teach Japanese efficiently at a university level I have combined an emphasis on the teaching of prosodic features together with my experience of television announcing. This has entailed using television news programmes and contemporary reading materials in my class. Using taped material I intend to describe a case-study of teaching of Japanese articulation.

정상성인의 뇌기능적 자기공명영상에서 명사, 동사, 형용사 그리고 부사 만들기 과제들에 대한 언어영역편재화의 재현성에 관한 연구 (Reproducibility of Hemispheric Language Dominance by Noun, Verb, Adjective and Adverb Generation Paradigms in Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Normal Volunteers)

  • Purpose : We investigated the reproducibility of language lateralization by 4 different word generation paradigms or the rest contents in each paradigm using functional magnetic resonance imaging in normal volunteers Materials and Methods Nine normal volunteers with left-handedness (mean age: 25 yrs) were examined on a 1.57 MR unit using a single-shot gradient echo epibold sequence. Four different word generation paradigms of noun, verb, adjective and adverb were used in each normal volunteer for investigating language system. In each paradigm, two different rest contents consisted of only seeing the " +" symbol or reading the meaningless letters. Each task consisted of 96 phases including 3 activations and 6 rests of 2 different contents. Two activation maps in one task were obtained under two different rest contents using the correlation method. We evaluated the detection rates of Broca and Wernicke areas and the differences of language lateralization among four different word generation paradigms, or between the rest contents. Results : The detection rates of Broca and Wernicke areas were over 67 % in 4 different language paradigms and there was no significant difference of them among language paradigms, or between two different rest contents. Language dominances, in all 4 different language paradigms, were shown to be consistent in 66 %, but were contrary with language paradigms in some subjects. The rest contents made no significant effect on dominant language dominance determination, but the success rates of the dominant language dominances determined from 4 language paradigms were higher in reading the meaningless letter (100%, n=9) than in only seeing "+" on screen at the rest task (78%, n=7).

그림책을 활용한 활동이 유아의 언어발달에 미치는 효과에 대한 메타분석 (A Meta-Analysis on the Effects of Activities Using Picture Books on Language Development in Young Children)

  • Objective: This study was aimed to analyze the effects of activities using picture books for young children's language development and to identify factors that caused differences in these effects by applying meta-analysis. Methods: We conducted a homogeneity test of effect sizes on 21 Korean studies published in academic journals from 1990 to February 2018 and calculated the effect size by applying a random effect model. Additionally, we conducted a meta-ANOVA to investigate whether the effect sizes differed by types of language development, picture book activities, and environmental variables-such as place, time, and agent. Results: The results indicated that the effect sizes of the 21 studies were heterogeneous and the total effect size was 0.90, which was significantly large according to Cohen's standard. The effect sizes also varied by types of language development, picture book activities, and environmental variables. Conclusion/Implications: To increase the effects of activities using picture books for young children's language development, this study suggested the importance of picture book activities to be integrated with other play areas, teaching methods, and other print materials for the development of literacy abilities, and the link between home and early childhood education institutions.

우수 초등 영어 수업의 학습 자료 활용 분석 (An Analysis of Learning Materials Use in an Outstanding Primary English Class)

  • 본 연구는 우수한 영어 수업을 관찰하고 활용된 학습 자료들을 분석하여 효과적인 수업 개선 자료를 제공하는데 목적이 있다. 학습 자료가 수업에서 어떤 양상으로 활용되는 지를 분석하기 위한 도구로는 학습 자료 활용 분석법을 사용하여 활용양상을 양화하였다. 분석 결과 수업 단계별 자료의 사용 정도는 전개 단계에서 가장 많이 활용되었고 그 다음은 도입, 정리 순이었다. 자료의 사용자 비율은 학생보다 교사가 높았으며 학생 개인이나 그룹별 사용 정도보다 학생 전체를 대상으로 학습 자료를 활용한 횟수가 많았다. 학습자료 활용 주체의 비율이 교사가 학생보다 4배 이상 높다는 것은 학습자 중심의 학습 자료 개발이 더 필요한 것으로 보인다. 또한 언어 자료보다 비언어 자료를, 한국어 자료보다 영어 자료를 많이 활용하였으며 문제를 제시하거나 설명을 할 때 학습 자료를 많이 활용한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 우수한 영어수업에서 활용되는 학습 자료의 특징들을 살펴보고 초등 영어 교사들에게 학습 자료의 적절한 활용 방법을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 본다.

일부 지역 청각·언어장애인의 구강위생관리행태에 관한 조사 연구 (A Survey about Oral Hygiene Management Attitude among People with Hearing Impairments and Speech defect in an Area)

  • This study surveyed people with hearing impairments and speech defect living in an area of Gyeonggi-do using a self-administered questionnaire and interviewed them with a deaf interpreter's help during the period from January 21 to February 14, 2009 in order to investigate their oral health management attitude according to their general characteristics. The difference between males and females was statistically significant. The results of this study were as follows. 1. As to the number of times of tooth brushing according to gender, 62.5% of males and 34.2% of females brushed their teeth 2 times, and 25.0% and 35.4% 3 times. 2. As to experiences in scaling according to Academic qualification, those with high academic qualification had scaling more regularly 3. As to tooth brushing methods according to cohabitant, the rolling method was most common regardless of cohabitant. As to the number of times of tooth brushing according to residence type, 41.9% of those living with their parents brushed their teeth 3 times, and 69.2% of those living alone and 47.5% of married ones 2 times. 4. With regard to how to access oral hygiene management education, 81.1% of elementary school graduates used multimedia materials and sign language explanation and captions, 48.6% of middle school graduates used multimedia materials and sign language explanation and 14.3% multimedia materials and captions, 50.0% of high school graduates used multimedia materials and sign language explanation and 17.3% multimedia materials and captions. The parish for the buccal cavity hygiene managements of the hearing impairments speech defect and Development of an educational program are needed.

한국의 가치문화 교육을 위한 광고 자료 선정 (The Study of Selecting Advertisement Materials for Korean Value System Education)

  • The purpose of this study is to prepare educational contents and criteria for selecting advertisement materials by exploring the necessity of value system education in Korean culture education. Furthermore, the study aims to suggest advertisements that contain meaningful materials through the criteria among the public and commercial advertisements as of 2017. Advertisements have advantages in three aspects as they focus on current culture, cultural implications and the ease of teaching and learning. These advantages indicate the usefulness of advertisements in value education. Also, the research of Hofstede (2010), Kang (2007), and Kim et al. (2011) provide discussion regarding educational contents. Subsequently, the criteria for selecting advertisements are further developed as the main purpose of this study. The criterion are to consider the objectives of culture education, to take into account the learning situation, to find relevance between the contents of the advertisement and the contents for the value system education, and consider expressive methods of advertisements and extensibility to the activities. Next, advertisements were selected for core educational items and the list of 22 is presented according to the value system, educational contents and the criterion of the advertisements discussed in the above.

효율적인 과업중심 교수.학습모형 연구: EFL 교실 상황을 중심으로 (A study on the optimal task-based instructional model: Focused on Korean EFL classroom practice)

  • The purpose of this study is to present the task model that is the most effective in English language methodology based on the investigation of task-based performance in Korean EFL classroom practice. The subjects were 538 high school students and 126 high school teachers, each of whom had common experiences using the materials of task-based activities for more than one year. To analyze the data, the program SPSS WIN 11.0 including frequency distribution and chi-square analysis was used. The results of the questionnaire analysis showed that both teachers and students had a comparatively high level of satisfaction in task rationale, but that they had some mixed responses in the fields of input data, settings, and activity types. To conclude, a few suggestions are made to provide some meaningful considerations for the EFL teachers and material developers: a) task goals and rationale that encourage the learner's positive motivation; b) authenticity of input data based on the real-world context; c) collaborative learning environment that enhances communicative interaction; d) proportional representation of the creative problem-solving activities related to discussions and decision-making processes; e) systematic introduction of integrated language skills. It also suggests that the multi-lateral task model, which has some positive assets compared to previous task models, be newly introduced and applied to the second language learning classrooms.
