  • This research investigates into overall oral health status of adolescent girl inmates in a juvenile detention facility and ordinary school students in the same age range of 11 to 18 years old and compares the results focusing on the difference between the two groups. The last 5 years dental records for girl inmates in Juvenile detention facility and for students who have visited the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Ajou University Hospital was colleted and analyzed. The restorative treatments took up the greatest part in their history of treatments. While the percentage of extractions of permanent teeth due to dental caries had been gradually increased, in Juvenile detention facility students, throughout the transition period from middle school to high school, in dental hospital patients, the phenomenon of the same kind has hardly been detected. After that record analysis, oral examination for Juvenile detention facility students and dental hospital patients was conducted. DMFT index for dental hospital patients are 4.15, whereas, the value for Juvenile detention facility students are as twice as high to be 7.53.

  • Nowdays the prison is the only correctional for juvenile delinquents not to be the second offenders in Korea. Originally the correctional education aims to let criminals go back to the society as a decent citizen after correcting them and prevent them from comminitting crimes repeatedly. Being considered to increase the second offenders in juvenile delinquency, the purpose of this study is to investigate the actual condition and problems of juvenile correctional education in Korea and to find out the solution of problems. First of all, this study examines the actual condition of the juvenile delinquency in Korea. The number of juvenile crimes has been increased from 1985 to 1995. In 1997, the current education in correctinal institutions for juvenile delinquents is inferior to that of developed countries. On the basis of this investigation, improvement plans which will be fit for the circumstances in Korea are suggested. The conclusion of this study are summarized as follows 1. Correctional institutions will be improved to accommodate the proper number of convicts. 2. Correctional officers should be qualified proffessinals who can achieve the aim of correctional education successfully. 3. In order to cultivate he social adaptability of convicts, the expansion of open prison is needed. 4. It is neccessary to classify convicts by means of moderized and scientific methods. 5. Correctinal education consist of various practical courses on jobs, After complenting these vocatinal training, the convict can obtain certificates. 6. The government has to has to plan policies that the released convicts can get jobs for living. 7. Owing to keeping prisons sanitary, it is very helpful for convicts to have thebelief that they are not abandoned by the member of their society. 8. Convicts are given opportunities to participate religious activities by their free-will. If above improvement plans are sufficiently accomplished, correctinal education will obtain good results, It is also effective to minimize the repetition of offence by ex-convicts.

  • The diet composition of juvenile Trachurus japonicus were studied using 195 specimens collected from 2013 (May, June, July, and September) to 2014 (May, June, and July) in the coastal waters of Geumodo, Yeosu, Korea. The size of juvenile T. japonicus ranged from 4.3 to 15.2 cm in body length (BL). Juvenile T. japonicus was carnivorous and crustaceans predators that consumes mainly consumed copepods. Its diet also included small quantities of decapods, cirripedians, nematods, chaetognathans, fishes, amphipods, cumaceans, ostracods and euphausiids. The graphical method for feeding strategy revealed that juvenile T. japonicus is an opportunistic and specialized predator on copepods, especially Corycaeus. affinis, and showed narrow niche width. Juvenile T. japonicus showed ontogenetic diet change. Small size group individuals (4.3-8.0 cm BL) mainly consumed copepods. The portion of this prey item decreased in the large size group (8.0-15.2 cm BL), and this decrease was paralleled with increased consumption of decapods.

  • Hydro-acoustic surveys with scientific echo sounder were carried out to estimate the total density and distribution of the juvenile cod in Jinhae bay, Korea. The surveys were conducted 4 times from May to June using 2 frequency method (38kHz and 120kHz) and beam trawl were used to investigate the species composition. Also the catch amounts of juvenile cod were compared with the cod density estimated by the hydro-acoustic method. It was confirmed that the juvenile cod was stayed in Jinhae bay in early June and There was the relationship between catch of juvenile cod and the estimated density by hydro-acoustic survey. The number of juvenile cod was consequently about 365,000 fish (CV 12.9%) in May and 113,000 fish (CV 9.2%) in May based on the hydro-acoustic data.

  • The postembryonic development of the Korean crayfish, Cambaroides similis (Koelbel, 1892), was described in detail and compared with those of other known species of Astacidae and American Cambaridae, and phylogenetic relationship of the genus Cambaroides was discussed. Ovigerous females of the Korean crayfishes appear in May. Durations of juvenile stages 1 and 2 are two and four weeks at 15.0 $\pm$ 0.5$^{\circ}C$, respectively. From juvenile stage 3, it leaves from its mother. It is considered that C. similis is very closely related more to the Astacidae than to the Cambaridae in the characteristics of the maxillule of juvenile stage 1 and the antenna, maxilla, pleopod, and telson of juvenile stage 2.

  • The relationship between dietary practices and juvenile delinquency was studied using a dietary survey. Subjects were selected from juvenile delinquents who were under the supervision of the Seoul Probation Office of the Ministry of Justice. The study group consisted of 52 male and 52 female delinquents. As a control group, 104 exemplary high school students were selected in Seoul. A questionnaire was designed to find out the subjects' general characteristics, dietary habits, lifestyle, eating behavior, food frequency, and nutrient intake using the 24-hour recall method. Compared to the exemplary students, the juvenile delinquents were significantly different in education level, family status, monthly allowance, residence status, breast fed, parents' education level, parents' concern. In dietary habits, fifty-eight percent of the juvenile delinquents ate 2 or fewer meals per day, preferred to eat with friends, and liked hot tasting foods. The juvenile delinquents consumed more ion drinks (OR = 9.26 CI: 3.83 -22.37), rameon (OR = 7.67 CI: 3.21 - 18.33), cola (OR = 6.75 CI: 2.91 - 15.69), soft drinks (OR = 6.12 CI: 2.53- 14.81), steamed korean sausage (OR = 5.34 CI:2.31 - 12.32), hamburger (OR = 5.15 CI: 1.91 - 13.87), kimbab (OR = 3.63 CI: 1.76-7.46), ddokbokgi (OR = 3.17 CI: 1.58-6.38), candy (OR = 3.08 CI: 1.41-6.73), white rice (OR = 2.59 CI: 1.19-5.64), hotdog (OR = 2.52 CI: 1.31-4.86), and less rice mixed with grains (OR = 0.02 CI: 0.01-0.05), tangerine (OR = 0.06 CI: 0.02 - 0.20), milk (OR = 0.29 CI: 0.14 - 0.60), roasted fish (OR = 0.32 CI: 0.28-0.99, anchovy (OR = 0.35 CI: 0.17 - 0.72), seaweed (OR = 0.37 CI: 0.16 - 0.83), and tofu (OR = 0.48 CI: 0.23-0.99) than the exemplary students. With respect to the juvenile delinquents, the nutrient intakes lower than 75% of the Korean RDA were for riboflavin (75.0%) and calcium (47.9%) among the boys, and calcium (46.9%) and iron (60.4%) among the girls. To prevent juvenile delinquency, nutritional education and well-balanced school food service meals should be emphasized so as to improve the management of dietary practices. • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the differences in clinical signs and symptoms, and psychological profiles of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJ OA) between juvenile and adult patients. Methods: Two-hundred eighty-three TMJ OA patients who visited the Orofacial Pain Clinic of Seoul National University Dental Hospital were classified by juvenile (153 patients; mean age $14.2{\pm}1.7$ years, range 9-16 years) and adult (130 patients; mean age $34.0{\pm}2.8$ years, range 30-40 years) groups, and compared the clinical symptoms based on the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD) axis I guidelines including Graded Chronic Pain (GCP) scale, mandibular range of motion, and the associated symptoms. Psychological profiles were also evaluated using the Symptom Checklist 90-Revision (SCL-90-R). Results: Juvenile patients reported lower pain intensity and a lower prevalence of headache and clenching than adult patients. Their mandibular range of motion was also higher than adult patients. Juvenile patients showed a lower percentage of patients with T-score above 50 in somatization (SOM), obsessive-compulsive (O-C), interpersonal sensitivity (I-S), and paranoid ideation (PAR) than adults. Based on the GCP scale, the percentage of the high disability group was lower in juveniles. Conclusions: Juvenile TMJ OA patients generally showed milder clinical symptoms than adults. Adult patients showed higher prevalence of psychological problems and higher disability than juvenile patients. Age should be considered in evaluation and treatment of TMJ OA patients to achieve better treatment results and understanding its pathophysiology.

  • As a synthetic analog of codeine, tramadol is often prescribed to treat mild to moderate pains. This study was designed to estimate and compare the histological effect of tramadol on testes of both juvenile and adult male albino mice. A total number of 40 healthy male albino mice were classified into two main groups as follows: group I (juvenile group, includes 20 mice aged three weeks) subdivided equally into group Ia (control group received isotonic saline) and group Ib (tramadol-treated group received 40 mg/kg/d tramadol orally for 30 days); group II (adult group, includes 20 mice aged two months) subdivided equally into group IIa (control group received isotonic saline) and group IIb (tramadol-treated group). Juvenile and adult tramadol-treated groups showed numerous testicular changes, including blood vessels congestion, widening of intercellular spaces, vacuolization in interstitial tissues, luminal germ cells exfoliation, and increased expression of caspase-3 that indicated cellular apoptosis. In the ultrastructural examination, spermatogenic cells degenerated with the frequent appearance of apoptotic cells. Sertoli cells showed vacuolations, large lipid droplets, and disrupted intercellular cell junctions. These observed testicular changes were markedly observed in the juvenile group. Testicular abnormalities and apoptotic changes can be caused by tramadol administration. These abnormalities are more common in juvenile mice.

  • Most grid sorting has been used to sort out flatfish in shrimp fisheries, while double grid systems have been tested to separate smaller shrimp. The escape of juvenile red seabream through separating panels made with steel grids or large mesh tested for masking effects in a two-species system. Fish behavior was observed in a circulating water tank. The escape rate was 20% greater with the separating codends than with the normal codend in the single-species experiments. The rates in the two-species experiments were 30% or 20% greater than the single-species rates for the normal or separating codends, respectively. The seabream retention rates in the grid separator codend decreased as rockfish retention increased, possibly due to a threat effect. Conversely, the retention rate of both species increased concurrently in the net separator, possibly due to a masking effect. The escape rates of juvenile red seabream varied by compartment in the mesh separating codend. These results suggest that grid separating codends can be used in the field as towed fishing gear to reduce juvenile catch.
