  • In developing a multiple regression relationship, independent variables are frequently measured with error. For these situations the problem of estimating unknown parameters has been extensively discussed in the literature while little attention has been given to the prediction problem. In this paper a criterion is developed for assessing the severeness of measurement errors in each independent variable on the predicted values. Using the developed criterion we can present a guideline as to which measurement error should be controlled for a more accurate prediction. Proposed methods are illustrated with a standard data system in work measurement.

  • This paper develops a general methodology for evaluating inspection (mainly, safety inspection) policies, standard and regulations in a complex system with lots of components. Based on practically available data, this methodology enable planners and regulators to estimate the costs and effectiveness of different inspection policies when applied under different system working conditions. As main tools, the concepts of detection probability and earliness of detection are developed in this paper.

  • Among the standards of CALS, CITIS(Contractor Integrated Technical Information Service) is a standard in information share procedure which manages all data and services occurred between a contractor and a purchaser. CITIS services have some security problems like authentication problem and repudiation problem, when they are implemented using the Internet. To solve these problems, CITIS needs a user certificate system which can allow to access important information only to qualified users. This paper proposed a PKI(Public Key Infrastructure) Certificate Authority for CITIS, and created a real User Certificate System which can be adjusted to circumstances of real CITIS.

  • Selection procedures are proposed for selecting the 'best' industrial process with the smallest fraction defective. For normally distributed industrial processes, this is equivalent to selecting in terms of coefficients of variation. For the case of known vairances, selection procedures by Bechhofer (1954), and Bechhofer and Turnball (1978) are appropriate. We treat this problem for the case of uknown variances with or without reference to a standard. The large sample solutions of design constants are tabulated and the performance of these approximate solutions are investigated.

  • When it comes to Lorentz symmetry violation, there are generally two approaches to studying noncommutative field theory: 1) conventional fields are equivalent to noncommutative fields; however, symmetry groups are larger. 2) The symmetry group is the same as conventional standard model's symmetry group; but fields here are written based on the Seiberg-Witten map. Here by adopting the first approach, we aim to connect Lorentz violation coefficients with noncommutative parameters and compare the results with the second approach's results. Through the experimental values obtained for the Lorentz-violating parameters, we obtain a limit of noncommutative symmetry.

  • In aerospace industry, MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) and MFTBF (Mean Flight Time Between Failure) are generally used for reliability analysis. So far, especially to Korean military aircraft, MFTBF of avionic equipments is predicted by MIL-HDBK-217 and MIL-HDBK-338, however, the predicted MFTBF by military standard has a wide discrepancy to that of real-world operation, which leads to overstock and increase operation cost. This study analyzes operational data of avionic equipments. Operational MFTBF, which is calculated from operational data, is compared with predicted MFTBF calculated conventionally by military standard. In addition, failure rate trend is investigated to verify reliability growth in operational data, the investigation shows that failure rate curve from operational data has somewhat pattern with decreased failure rate and constant failure rate.

  • As the distributed simulation system has been developed in the defense modeling and simulation, interoperability among heterogeneous simulators is essential to achieve the objectives of the distributed simulation system. However, the interoperability has been a problem to synchronize synthetic environment among many heterogeneous simulators that utilize different environmental data formats. SEDRIS (Synthetic Environmental Data Representation and Interchange Specification) was initiated to solve the problem of the interoperability. SEDRIS provides a standard mechanism to promote data interchange and reusability, and it represents all environmental things from ocean, land and atmosphere to the universe. Although SEDRIS provides various advantages as a standard environmental data format, applying of SEDRIS has been hindered by its broadness and complexity. The main objective of this paper is to explain application development process to improve SEDRIS usability for the atmosphere and ocean. The developed application of this paper provides auto-generation of SEDRIS data with minimum user's input, and the auto-generated SEDRIS data is also visualized and verified by the application.

  • Purpose: Reliability prediction standards consider environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity and vibration in order to predict the reliability of the electronics components. There are many types of standards, and each standard has a different failure rate prediction model, and requires different environmental conditions. The purpose of this study is to make a sensitivity analysis by changing the temperature which is one of the environmental conditions. By observing the relation between the temperature and the failure rate, we perform the sensitivity analysis for standards including MIL-HDBK-217F, RiAC-HDBK-217Plus and FIDES. Methods: we establish environmental conditions in accordance with maneuver weapon systems's OMS/MP and mission scenarios then predict the reliability using MIL-HDBK-217F, RiAC-HDBK-217Plus and FIDES through the case of DC-DC Converter. Conclusion: Reliability prediction standards show different sensitivities of their failure rates with respect to the changing temperatures.

  • The aim of this study was to analyze the local distribution of the heavy metal concentration in Daegu and Ulsan which were divided into the residual areas, the traffic dense areas and the industrial areas. The Inductively Coupled Plasma(ICP) was used to analyze heavy metals, such as As, Cr, Hg, Zn, Cd, Pb, Cu and minor metals, such as Fe, Si, Mg, Ca, AI, Na, K. The results of this analysis showed that the content of heavy metals which was classified by districts in Daegu and Ulsan was the highest in the industrial areas followed by the traffic dense areas and the residual areas. Compared to the level of heavy metals of national and local soil survey network in 2003, contamination of heavy metals in Daegu was lower than national average. However, the content of Cd, As, Zn in Ulsan was respectively 13.38 times, 472 times and 2.65 times higher than national average contamination. In addition, compared to the soil pollution level of the environmental protection law, contamination of all areas in Daegu was lower. But the content of As at the industrial areas in Ulsan was 10.71 times higher than standard of soil pollution and 4.28 times higher than standard of measures against soil contamination.

  • Owing to increasing demand of rare metals present in ICT products, it is necessary to promote the rare metal recycling industry from an environmental viewpoint and to prevent climate change. Despite the fact that information for toxic substances is partly indicated, a legal basis and an international standard indicating usage of rare metals is insufficient. In order to address this issue, a newly created study group of environment and climate change at the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) is doing research to develop methodologies for recycling rare metals from ICT products in an eco-friendly way. Under this group, the Republic of Korea has established two international standards related to rare metals present in ICT products. The first is 'Release of rare metal information for ICT products (ITU-T L.1100)' and the other is 'Quantitative and qualitative analysis methods for rare metals (ITU-T L.1101)'. A new proposal for recommending the provision of rare metal information through a label by manufacturers and consumer/recycling businesses has been approved recently and is supposed to be published later in 2016. Moreover, these recommendations are also being extended to IEC, ISO and other standardization organizations and a strategy to reinforce the ability for domestic standardization is being established in accordance with industrial requirements. This will promote efficient recycling of rare metals from ICT products and will help improve the domestic supply of rare metals.
