  • In this study, a traditional concept of sampling inspection plan for the quality assurance system is extended to a consideration of economic aspects in total production system by representing and analyzing the effects between proceeding / succeeding production process including inspection. This approach recognizes that the decision to be made at one manufacturing process (or assembly process) determine not only the cost and the average outgoing quality level of that process but also the input parameters of the cost and the incoming quality to the succeeding process. By analyzing the effects of the average incoming and outgoing quality, manufacturing / assembly quality level and sampling inspection plan on the production system, mathematical models and solution technique to minimize the total production cost for a single product manufacturing system with specified average outgoing quality limit(AOQL) are suggested.

  • The purpose of this experimental study is to analyze the techniques of producing the traditional Korean ink sticks, in order to restore them. The major findings are as follows: (1) Korean traditional ink is a name which people generically calls a block of ink mass made from soots and pine pitch, and it can be classified into pine-pitch ink and oil-pitch ink according to the type of soot. (2) Pine-pitch ink is made from soot of burnt pine trees, and oil-pitch ink is made from soot of burnt plant, animal or mineral oil. Both are mixed with glue made from resin, and hardened into block form. (3) Raw materials of ink include soot, glue made from resin, and spices, and the techniques of making Korean traditional inks were documented in etc. (4) The techniques of making Korean traditional inks have not been handed down, but some craftsmen in modern Korea have restored those traditional techniques.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the traditional manufacturing technique of lacquering by comparing and analyzing materials used for wooden lacquerware artifacts with focus on the Joseon dynasty Eugye, and to apply the manufacturing technique to the conservation treatment of the lacquerware. artifacts. This study conducted the documentary survey focusing on "Yongjo Jeongsun Queen Consort Garye Dogam Eugye",and "Jeongjo Gukjang Dogam Eugye." The royal lacquering is roughly classified into three categories-scarlet lacquering, quality black lacquering, and terra rosa lacquering- according to materials used for lacquerware. The bean flour was mostly used for under lacquering of the articles which was offered to the king and in case of other articles, bean flour was used mixed with bone ashes. In some cases, burned pine soot was added to under lacquering. Japanese scarlet lacquering was applied by mixing maechil-main coat, in inverted commas- with Japenese scarlet after lacquering jeonchil-base coat, in inverted commas-. In case of Chinese scarlet lacquering, part of terra rosa was used mixed with red clay. For quality black lacquering, basically jeonchil and maechil were used, but sometimes part of burned pine soot was added. In addition, terra rosa lacquering was applied by basically using terra rosa mixed with red clay. Lastly, gloss was given by using perilla oil. It is expected that the traditional materials and technique examined through both documentary and relic research will contribute to advanced result of the conservation treatment of wooden lacqueringware artifacts.

  • With development of the database, there are too many data on process variables and the manufacturing process for the traditional statistical process control methods to identify the process variables related with assignable causes. Data mining is useful in this situation and provides variety of approaches for improving the process. In this paper, we applied control charts to monitor the process and if assignable causes are detected, then we applied the SVM technique and the sequence pattern analysis to find out the process variables suspected. These techniques made possible to predict the behavior of process variables. We illustrated our proposed methods with real manufacturing process data.

  • Dahoe is a traditional braid in Joseon Dynasty. There are many Dahoe artifacts, which can give us a glimpse of the costume, culture, and life of that era. The study of Dahoe is necessary in various fields, but it is difficult because this manufacturing technique has been passed down from hand to hand. Few studies have been done so far. This research examines the manufacturing technique of KwangDahoe which is passed down by Maedeupjang (Decorative Knotting) and is generally used for knotting and/or tying objects. The main characteristic of TieKwangDahoe, made through the same method as WonDahoe, is the square hole in the middle. It was impossibile to remake the original braid because there is no confirmed number of the strand. Especially it is very difficult to do conservation and restoration on serious degradation state of the fiber. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the non-destructive manufacturing techniques method for Dahoe and assess their applicability. First, we analyzed the artifacts' manufacturing technique based on the database of the Dahoe's manufacturing technique. In order to do that, we undertook schematization, restoration, morphological analyzation of the Dahoe. And then, X-ray CT scans were performed to improve the reliability of the DB. These results of scanning were interpreted based on the manufacturing technique. The selected Tie-KwangDahoe on the sword for the study are artifacts including artistic value and symbolism in Joseon Dynasty. Based on the analysis of the manufacturing technique, we found that both artifacts were made of 20-strand braid of single cross according to the length-scale measure. It was manufactured using 8-strand on left-right side, 12-strand on front-back side by the braiding manufacturing technique method Finally, this research suggests non-destructive analysis method of Dahoe's manufacturing technique is based on the database and the analysis results. I hope this research can be useful in various professional fields of Dahoe in the future. Moreover, I hope this can be of any help in preserving Korean cultural heritage.

  • As important mechanical elements, gears have been used widely in power transferring systems such as automobile transmission and there have been several researches trying to make gear parts with cold or warm forging in order to reduce cost and time required to gear manufacturing process. Although forging processes of spur and bevel gears have been developed as practical level owing to active previous researches in Korea, the manufacturing of helical gear has been still depended on traditional gear cutting processes such as hobbing, deburring and shaving. In order to manufacture helical gears with cold forging process, a research project supported by government has been conducted by Daegu university, KIMS and TAK and this paper deals with effects of back pressure forming technique to cold forging of helical gear as a fundamental research.

  • Recently many researchers contributed to the understanding of Quality Control System, but the use of economics in the design of quality assurance system is limited in treatment of the relationship between the average incoming quality level (or average process quality level) of the incoming lot and the average outgoing quality level of this lot. In this study, a traditional concept of sampling inspection plan for the quality assurance system is extended to a consideration of economic aspects in total production system by representing and analyzing the effects between proceeding and succeeding production process including inspection process. This approach recognizes that the decision at each manufacturing process (or assembly process), is to be determined not only by the cost and the average outgoing quality level of that process, but also by the input parameters of the cost and the incoming quality to the succeeding process. By analyzing the effects of the average incoming and outgoing quality, manufacturing or assembly process quality level and sampling inspection plan on the production system, mathematical models and solution technique to minimize the total production cost for a general product manufacturing system with specified average outgoing quality limit are suggested.

  • It is crucial to prevent low yields in the semiconductor industry. Since many factors affect variation in yield and they are deeply related, preventing low yield is difficult. There have been substantial researches in the field of yield prediction. Many researchers had used the statistical methods. Many studies have shown that artificial neural network (ANN) achieved better performance than traditional statistical methods. However, despite ANN's superior performance some problems such as over-fitting and poor explanatory power arise. In order to overcome these limitations, a relatively new machine learning technique, support vector machine (SVM), is introduced to classify the yield. SVM is simple enough to be analyzed mathematically, and it leads to high performances in practical applications. This study presents a new efficient classification methodology, Stepwise-SVM (SSVM), for detecting high and low yields. SSVM is step-by-step adjustment of parameters to be precisely the classification for actual high and low yield lot. The objective of this paper is to examine the feasibility of SVM and SSVM in the yield classification. The experimental results show that SVM and SSVM provides a promising alternative to yield classification for the field data.

  • This thesis aims to create a new technique by applying traditional ceramics technique. As a matter of fact, on the toremi plate of the sieve-frame skein technique, the weld on which various patterns are squeezed, is attached to the cylinder made of clay on the spinning wheel. And it is the concept that maximizes aesthetic beauty by expressing distorted pattern and free dismantling of existing pattern by pushing it out from inside by the turn of electric spinning wheel for the first time. The main point of view of this aesthetic source is that most of the surface of the ceramics is a spherical curved surface and looks distorted like an indicator drawn on a globe. The researcher created a dynamic and humorous technique of expression through the free dismantling of the squashed shapes and the distorted patterns and called it the bating sealing weld outer wall extension technique.

  • To date, the implementation and adoption of new manufacturing technologies has been retarded despite their technical advances and strategic virtues such as flexibility and synergy effect. This phenomenon is partly attributable to the lack of commensurate development and widespread dissemination of adequate selection and justification procedures. Many strategically vital automation projects have been rejected and/or seemingly promising proposals have turned out to be fiascos since the justification process has been solely based on the traditional capital budgeting or engineering economy methods. As the degree of system automation/integration increases, a variety of benefit/cost attributes, both quantitative and qualitative, should be taken into account and more comprehensive and analytic justification methods should be applied in the justification process. This paper points out the distinct characteristics of advanced technologies and presents an illustrative set of procedures that can be used in the justification process. It outlines the algorithmic structure of each procedure and also describes the advantages/disadvantages of each procedure and the conditions under which it is most appropriate to employ. The selection of appropriate justification technique is situation-specific. In general, it is recommended that more complex and sophisticated procedures be used as the degree of integration increases. Nonetheless, traditional procedures may be used as well to make in-depth analyses of the local impact.
