In today's highly competitive environment, the importance of technology protection cannot be overemphasized. To evaluate technology protection competency of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises(SMEs), Government has conducted surveys every year but its effectiveness is still in question. To enhance the effectiveness of technology protection for SMEs, a customized evaluation model of technology protection competency has been suggested in this study. Surveys are conducted to measure the relative importance of evaluation areas that can be influenced by the size and type of business. The analysis shows that there exists significant differences between evaluation areas. This study suggests that the effectiveness of technology protection can be enhanced by utilizing a customized evaluation model depending on the size and type of business. Also, the proposed model can be used for SMEs to identify and enhance their weakness in technology protection. Overall, it is expected that the proposed model can be effectively used to protect valuable technologies in various SMEs.

The performance of informatization differs depending on its utilization, investment and construction methods. This study analyzed the key factors affecting the performance of informatization based on a public survey on the information system operation of small and medium-sized companies in Korea. Through structural equation modeling and one-way ANOVA, the study identified the pathways leading to performance. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that higher levels of top management support are associated with increased information system use and performance. Similarly, higher levels of information system use are correlated with better performance of information systems. This research is significant as it investigates and reveals how top management support and information system usage work in the cases of SMEs in South Korea, which is a leading country in manufacturing. The findings of this study will provide valuable insights for SMEs, whether they have already developed an information system or plan to do so, in their efforts to enhance corporate competitiveness.

The purpose of this study is to investigates the effect of SMEs' digital transformation efforts in O2O platforms on customer engagement. This study focuses on digitalization, which is a practically viable phase for SMEs using O2O platforms among the three digital transformation stages (digitization, digitalization, and digital transformation). This study specifically categorizes digital transformation efforts into three categories: information diversity, responsiveness to customers, and the degree of functional use. To analyze the impact of these efforts on customer engagement, we conducted a zero-inflated negative binomial regression using the dataset provided by Naver SmartPlace, a representative O2O platform in South Korea. The results present that the positive relationship between these aforementioned factors and customer engagement. Thus, this study demonstrates that utilizing O2O platforms can be an effective strategy for SMEs that lack the resources to achieve a successful digital transformation.

최근 우리나라 중소기업들은 심각한 수준의 인력부족현상을 경험하고 있다. 많은 선행연구는 이것이 중소기업의 열악한 근무 환경과 낮은 임금 그리고 이에 따른 졸업생의 중소기업 기피에 주로 기인한다고 보았다. 반면 중소기업 취업자가 노동시장에서 차별을 경험하기 때문이라는 노동시장분절 시각에서 접근 되기도 하다. 특히 이 같은 차별이 하향취업과 비전공 취업으로 연계될 수 있고, 결과적으로 빈번한 이직이나 안정적이지 못한 일자리로 이어짐으로써 장기적으로는 효과적인 경력축적을 저해하게 할 수 있다는 지적도 있다. 하지만 그 동안 대부분의 연구는 주로 대학 졸업생의 미취업 탈출에 초점을 둔 반면, 이들의 초기 직업력에 대한 연구는 대단히 적었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 대학 졸업생의 직업력에 대한 추적조사 결과를 활용하여 중소기업 취업자의 이직 경로를 분석하고, 노동시장 진입 과정에 따른 노동시장 성과의 차이를 분석하고자 한다. 분석 결과, 대학 졸업생의 중소기업 경력은 더 많은 그리고 더 장기간의 교량적 일자리를 경험하게 되고, 상대적으로 낮은 임금과 고용불안정을 수반하며, 이 같은 직장이동이 긍정적인 노동시장성과를 동반하지 못하는 등 노동시장에서 인적 자본이나 교육의 질로써 설명되지 못하는 '중소기업효과'가 존재하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

본 연구는 ICT 분야 중소기업을 대상으로 유일하게 융자금을 지원하고 있는 ICT 융자사업 수혜기업을 대상으로 정책융자금에 대한 전반적인 수요조사를 실시하였으며, 특정 수혜기업을 대상으로 융자지원 받은 기술개발과제의 연구배경 및 연구성과, 파급효과, 기대효과, 에피소드 등을 살펴봄으로써 융자금 지원이 실제적으로 얼마나 ICT 중소기업의 기술적 경제적 성과 제고에 도움을 주고 있는가를 보여주고 있다. 실제로 ICT 분야의 중소기업들은 더 많은 규모의 정책융자금을 요구하고 있으며, 안정적인 자금조달이 기술개발 성공의 핵심요인이자 가장 어려운 과제라는 응답결과를 보여주고 있다. 결과적으로, 기술경쟁력을 지닌 ICT 중소기업들의 기술개발 필요자금을 융자해 주고 나아가 개발된 기술을 사업화함으로써 영세한 기업재정의 건전성을 회복할 수 있는 자금지원 정책을 마련할 필요가 있음을 시사해 주고 있다.

SMEs(Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) have implemented the various IT-based Production Information Systems(PIS) to cope with the highly competitive environment as well as to improve their competitiveness and productivity. For the efficient development of PIS In SMEs, standardizing the system development process is required. Methodology for the development of PIS is especially important for the systematic and efficient implementation to communicate among the SI companies, SMEs, and a supervision agency. TIPA(Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for SMEs) has developed PSDM(Production System Development Methodology), and supplies it to the SI companies. The research goal of this paper is to explore the productivity improvement by adopting the PSDM with the cases of SI companies applied PSDM. The results show that such benefits as risk management, productivity improvement, easy system implementation and maintenance are perceived by PSDM Users. This research could be the first case study reveal the effectiveness of PSDM. For further research, the survey could be carried out with more samples.

As the technological gap amongst manufacturers decreases, the life cycle of products has shortened, and competition accelerates due to the development of technology, incumbent manufacturing companies face growth limitations. In order to overcome such business issues, manufacturing companies are increasingly interested in changes in business models and innovations, especially in the direction of providing services where they can maintain the competitive advantage of their products. In such context, this empirical study examines managerial leadership, differentiation strategies, and products and services pricing as 'servitization factors', which can be driving forces for moving into a new era of growth for Korean SMEs, focusing on the mediating effects of servitization competency. The results are as follows : First, it was confirmed that executive leadership, differentiation strategy, and information & communication technology capability have a direct effect on service sales. Second, the process competency, partnership competency, and ICT competency, which are presented as the service competence of SMEs, were found to play an important role in inducing service sales in managerial leadership, differentiation strategy, product and services pricing. It also emphasized the role of the public policy such as helping to foster SMEs as key partners in the expansion of social facilities and establishing platforms through ICT and data utilization for the convergence of manufacturing services.

This study examines the extent to which policy-based loans to SME exporters affect their export performance (the intensive margin of exports). We also investigate the heterogeneous export effects of policy-based loans that may depend on firm- and industry-specific characteristics, such as credit ratings, debt-to-assets ratios, firm size and age. To do so, we conduct a survey, of 1,000 Korean SMEs, that collect information on firm-level exports and policy-based loans. The main empirical findings strongly support that SMEs that receive policy-based loans tend to increase their export volumes. However, these loans' positive impact on exports are only valid for SME exporters with credit scores of 12 or greater (that is, SMEs that have difficulty accessing the external financial market). The estimation results with respect to SMEs' dependence on external financing imply that policy-based loans for SMEs in sectors that are heavily dependent on external finance are effective in that they are instrumental in increasing these firms' exports. These empirical findings emphasize the importance of the external financial market to SME exporters who face various up-front investments that are related to their exporting activities.

The electrical insulation design and withstanding test of mini-model coils for 600 kJ class conduction cooled high temperature superconducting magnetic energy storage (HTS SMES) have been studied in this paper. The high voltage is generated to both ends of magnet of HTS SMES by quench or energy discharge. Therefore, the insulation design of the high voltage needs for commercialization, stability, reliability and so on. In this study, we analyzed the insulation composition of a HTS SMES, and investigated about the insulation characteristics of the materials such as Kapton, AIN and vacuum in cryogenic temperature. Base on these results, the insulation design for 600 kJ conduction cooled HTS SMES was performed. The mini-model was manufactured by the insulation design, and the insulation test was carried out using the mini-model.

The increasing number of technology transfers from public research institutes in Korea has led to a growing demand for patent recommendation platforms for SMEs. This is because selecting the right technology for commercialization is a critical factor in business success. This study developed a patent recommendation system that uses technology transfer data from the past 10 years to recommend patents that are suitable for SMEs. The system was developed in three stages. First, an item-based collaborative filtering system was developed to recommend patents based on the similarities between the patents that SMEs have previously transferred. Next, a content-based recommendation system based on TF-IDF was developed to analyze patent names and recommend patents with high similarity. Finally, a hybrid system was developed that combines the strengths of both recommendation systems. The experimental results showed that the hybrid system was able to recommend patents that were both similar and relevant to the SMEs' interests. This suggests that the system can be a valuable tool for SMEs that are looking to acquire new technologies.
