  • The purpose of this study was to examine the aptitude of wheat flour-Nuluks, for Takju brewing, which were made with Aspergillus oryzae, Rhizopus japonicus or Aspergillus usamii mut. Shirousamii, and to know the way of effective use the Aspergillus oryzae-Nuluk showed high saccharogenic activity, and Rhizopus japonicus-Nuluk high proteolytic activity. When these two Nuluks were combined, the activities of saccharogenic amylase and protease were more balanced. The Takju mash of Aspergillus oryzae-Nuluk was high in acidity and in amino acidity, and that of Rhizopus japonicus-Nuluk high in the content of free sugar, but, that of Aspergillus usamii mut. Shirousamii-Nuluk was low in amino acidity, free sugar and ethanol content. The Takju of Rhizopus japonicus-Nuluk was high in the content of suspended solid and slow in its sedimenting rate, but that of Aspergillus usamii mut. Shirousamii-Nuluk was not. The Takju which was made with combined use of Aspergillus oryzae-Nuluk and Rhizopus japonicus-Nuluk was more balanced in the composition of flavoring ingredients, and was slow in sedimenting rate of suspended solid. Moreover, it gained good result in sunsory evaluation test.

  • Micro wave rotor is expected to improve the performance of micro gas turbines drastically. In the present study, a micro wave rotor test rig was designed and built for micro gas turbines of 1-10 kW output range, and its test runs were carried out with cold air flow. In the previous experiments, the leakage loss had large influence on its operating condition. Therefore, abradable coating was applied on the end walls to achieve the operation with zero clearance for leakage reduction and its improvement on the operating condition is discussed in this study.

  • In this study, experiments of downward-facing flow boiling were conducted to investigate material effects on CHF. Experiments were conducted using aluminum, copper, and carbon steel. It was found that different materials had different CHFs. Aluminum has the biggest CHF while copper has the lowest CHF for each mass flux. After experiment, surface wettability increased and surface became rougher, which was probably due to the oxidation process during nucleate boiling. The CHF difference is likely to be related to the surface wettability, roughness and thermal effusivity, which influences the bubble behavior and in turn affects CHF. Further studies are needed to determine which factor is dominant.

  • Carotene, xanthophyll, carotenoid anthocyan, phycopyrine, chlorophyll, and monascus pigments are used as natural coloring agents since they are more stable to human body than synthetic coloring agents. Among them, monascus pigments are a natural red pigment produced by the Monascus purpureus. For the development of edible paint using natural pigment, Monascus purpureus strain was cultured at a temperature of $35^{\circ}C$ for 15 days on a PDYA plate and liquid medium to produce a red pigment. In addition, a large amount of the red pigment was extracted from Hongkuk Koji in parallel with water extraction and ultrasonic wave extraction. At this time, the yield of ultrasonic extract was 2~4 times higher. Thus, Monascus purpureus strains, etc. were prepared by freeze-drying powder. In conclusion, natural paints made with red pigments have enabled the development of been edible paints that can be used as eco-friendly materials with good viscosity, enhanced spread ability and coloration.

  • The object of this study is to clarify fatigue limit and fatigue crack growth characteristic of SBHS700 base metal which is 780 MPa class steel. This study carried out the fatigue tests of SBHS700 base metal containing different defect size, and the fatigue limit was compared with that of the conventional steel. Test results indicate that the fatigue limit increased with decrease initial defect size, and can be precisely evaluated by using ${\sqrt{area}}$ parameter model. This paper also presents that crack growth characteristic was almost the same as that of the conventional steel from the observation of striations by using Scanning electron microscope and length of beach marks.

  • In the Joseon dynasty one in seven houses enjoyed their home-brewed alcoholic beverages, which lead to the development of a variety of Korean traditional liquors throughout the country. However, when Korea was under Japanese rule, Korean traditional alcoholic beverages disappeared during this period. Since the 1980s, the Korean government has tried to revitalize the traditional alcoholic drinks unique to Korean culture and taste. Nevertheless, the development of traditional liquors is subjected to many constraints due to current market demand and liquor laws. To address this, we propose some suggestions that should be implemented ahead. First, it is necessary to revise the term traditional liquor including makgeolli as 'Korean sool' to expand the market size. Secondly, the use of koji and excellent yeast isolated from nuruk should be scientifically modernized. Lastly, the government should establish the National Korean Sool Research Institute. These practices will contribute to the succession of Korean liquor and its globalization.

  • For the first time, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) was used as an easily-handled chlorine source for preparation of isotropic pitch-based carbon fiber (IPCF) incorporating ethylene bottom oil (EO) as a raw material. Pitch precursors were prepared by the chlorination-dehydrochlorination triggered by chlorine radicals originated from PVC; aromatization and poly-condensation reactions occurred by polyene-type radicals from PVC. Radical production and co-carbonization were facilitated by pretreatments of EO through vacuum distillation, bromination, and additional heat treatment. Pitches were prepared by the co-carbonization of pretreated EO and EO containing 20 wt% PVC, and had higher yields and better spinnability than those by simple distillation.

  • Utilizing outside knowledge for innovation is an important task for companies in the competitive economy. Due to the rapid advance in the internet communication technology, the number and quality of innovation sourcing methods are increasing. We select co-creation, personalization and in-house R&D as the representative forms of innovation sourcing and suggest a game theory model that enables the comparative analysis between them. The decision and surplus outcome of the innovation mechanisms are compared under various settings of the input parameters of the model. The stakeholders voluntarily participate into all mechanisms when the product price is moderately high and the participation cost is low, while co-creation is the only feasible one when the product quality is niche. When the participation cost is relatively high, personalization outperforms co-creation.

  • The cladding temperatures and axial mass distribution computed by MAAP5 were compared with their measured values in the test bundle of the Phebus Test FPT0. The computed cladding temperatures were in good agreed with the measured values in the pre-transient phase. In the transient heat-up phase, the computed temperatures were overestimated by the Baker-Just correlation in MAAP5, but the computed temperatures could simulate the subsequently measured values. The computed mass distribution in the axial direction was in qualitative agreement with the measured one for post-test fuel damage observations. The calculated flow areas of inner and outer regions in the test bundle were compared with the photographic observations. MAAP5 computed them at the height of 0.2 m where the molten pool formed was in qualitative agreement with the photographic observations. It was found that the remaining steam flow paths might be caused by the gas-liquid two-phase flow counter-current flow limitation.
