  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of nutrition education on nutrition knowledge, dietary attitudes, and food behavior of college students. The subjects of this study were 350 college students attending a university. The education group students received nutrition education three hours per week during a 4-week period offered in a 'Home Economics' course. A total of 150 students in the education group and 200 students in the non-education group completed pre-test questionaires examining nutrition knowledge, dietary attitudes, and food behaviors. Major findings were as follows : nutrition knowledge, and food behavior of the education group were improved compared to the non-education group. But significant changes were not observed in dietary attitudes in the education group. There were higher correlations between nutrition knowledge and dietary attitudes score, and between dietary attitudes and food behavior score at the posttest than those at the pretest. These results suggest that nutrition education for college students can effectively improve their nutrition knowledge and food behaviors.

  • Online brand communities have become a major component of marketing strategy given that these communities encourage participation and share the culture of Web 2.0 core concepts to Internet users. This study investigated the effects of social capital and knowledge quality on the success of online brand communities. A research model suggests that trust among members and the identification derived from social capital theory and knowledge quality influence individual community participation; knowledge quality also influences brand trust. In turn, community participation and brand trust develop brand loyalty. The model was empirically analyzed using structural equation modeling with data from online brand community members in Korea. The results indicate that identification and knowledge quality significantly affects brand trust and brand loyalty through community participation. This study provides a basis for developing a success model for online brand communities. Also, this study identifies a new role of knowledge quality in an online brand community context.

  • Recently we started a development of the digital meister expert system for the product design supporting in manufacturing industry. Knowledge representation is of major importance in digital moister expert system. This rule-based expert system-knowledges are designed for a certain type of knowledge representation such as rules or logic. The way in which a rule-based expert system represents knowledge affects the development, efficiency, speed, and maintenance. Eventually, this digital moister system is used to the engineer in manufacturing industry for the process control, production management and system management. In this paper, we propose the digital moister system knowledge representation method for product design supporting in manufacturing industry and we present introduction and contents of rule-based knowledge representation supporting tool.

  • The study investigated the contributions of digital and media literacies to knowledge sharing among school library personnel in Nigeria. The survey research design was adopted for the study while a questionnaire was used to collect data from the 190 respondents that constitute the sample size for the study. Findings from the study revealed a high level of digital and media literacy skills possessed by the school library personnel surveyed. Producing information, evaluating digital information, and finding digital were major media and digital information literacy skills that significantly contributed to knowledge sharing among the school library personnel. The study recommended that adequate attention should be given to the development of digital and media literacies of school library personnel in Nigeria to ensure effective and efficient knowledge sharing.

  • Reverse knowledge transfer has been an important research theme in the literature on multinational corporations (MNCs). This paper proposes major determinants of MNC headquarters' willingness to adopt and use marketing knowledge from their subsidiaries. We argue that the willingness will be jointly determined by both the headquarter's absorptive capacity and the focal subsidiary's transfer capacity and willingness to transfer. In addition, we argue that these capability and motivation effects are moderated by (1) institutional distance between home and the focal host country, (2) the need to unlearn existing routines, and (3) types of entry modes. This paper contributes to the reverse knowledge transfer literature by proposing the argument that both motivational and capability factors are likely to determine the MNC parents' willingness to adopt and use marketing knowledge from their subsidiaries.

  • The purposes of this study were (1) to investigate the differences in the level of children's knowledge and reasoning skills due to the sloping phenomenon according to their ages and the types of tasks they were asked to perform, and (2) to investigate whether children's prior knowledge is changed to post knowledge through their reasoning. A total of 120 subjects, forty from each of the age groups 4, 6 and 8 were selected for the study. The major findings are presented below : 8-year old children showed higher levels of prior knowledge than 6-year old children. The prior knowledge level of the "size" task was higher than that of the "weight" task. 6-and 8-year old children showed higher levels of reasoning than 4-year old children. The reasoning level of the "size" task was higher than that of the "weight" task. 6-and 8-year old children showed higher levels of post knowledge than 4-year old children. However, there was no difference in children's post knowledge according to task difference. Through the different types of reasoning involved in the children's performances of the two tasks, changes in the prior knowledge of the sloping phenomenon were observed among all age groups.

  • Recently, the necessity of education for developing the capability to create new knowledge and creatively solve problems through cooperation and integration with various disciplines is increased. And a lot of universities carry out software capability education to bring up talents capable of creative fusion with other major and software knowledge. To bring up talents capable of creative fusion through software education for non-computer majors, it is important for learners to develop ability to solve problems by using and applying various knowledge for themselves. Therefore, this study explores the possibility of convergence between software and learner's major fields by analyzing software projects made by non-computer major freshmen through software class and the results of pre-post surveys of the class and proposes the future direction of software education for them.

  • This study deals with the knowledge acquisition activities along the growth stages of Korean ventures. This issue is very important in the three reasons. First, the target of the study-new ventures- is a pending issue and can be regarded as the engine of innovation in the Korean economy. Second, venture activities is so dynamic compared to those of the established companies and the study reflects its dynamic features. Third, the knowledge is becoming more important one among various resources, and knowledge management can be a timely issue. The main research questions are as follows : - How does the degree of knowledge domain, vary along the growth stages\ulcorner - Which knowledge domains are more influential on the performance along growth stages\ulcorner Major findings of the study are as follow: First, technological knowledge acquisition effort are most intensive at the start-up stage, while the management knowledge efforts are active at the growth stage. The degree of market knowledge acquisition efforts is almost the same along the stages. Second, the important knowledge domain, which influences on the performance, varies along the stages. The acquisition effort for product technology knowledge is more influential on the sales growth rate and has a negative effect on the return on assets at the start-up stage, while the management knowledge about administration is more influential on the return on assets at the growth stage. Finally the academic contributions and managerial implications of the study are presented and the future research directions are also suggested.

  • The knowledge substitutes the traditional factors of production - land, labor, and capital - and has become one of the most important new resources. The Internet Knowledge Society is where the knowledge is the major source of development and competition. Now more than 350mi11ion computers are connected to internet servers and the internet users are more than 250mi11ion. The purpose of this paper is to propose some key factors for implementing the Police Knowledge Management System(PKMS) based on Intranet. With Information Technology(IT), the police administrative system will be much more efficient. Introducing the If into the system is critical for restructuring the police administrative system. This paper concludes as follows : ■ Knowledge is divided into tacit and explicit one. Knowledge process is divided into acquisition, accumulation, distribution and creation of knowledge. ■ The IntraNet is composed of Web server, FTP server, electric-mail server, and is constructed security system to safety. ■ All policemen are bound to serve as a new knowledge worker. ■ Police organization needs to operate data management system. The organization also needs to the Police Knowledge Management Center(PKMC). And the Police Chief Knowledge Officers(PCKO) needs to be appointed to manage the PKMC. ■ An information and knowledge infrastructure(various databases are the most important factor) should be established within the organization to promote the self-directed management, the interactive communication, and the learning ability of the members.
