Measurement of Cell Death Constant in Anabaena flos-aquae (Cyanophyceae) by the Molecular Probe (Anabaena flos-aquae 에서의 세포사멸계수(Cell Death Constant)의 측정)

  • The measurement of cell death constant in Anabaena flos-aquae was tested by the Live/Dead BacLight Viability kit(Molecular Probes Co., Seatle, WA). When the Live/Dead BacLight Viability kit was applied to Anabaena flos-aquae, the cells with intact cell membranes(live cells) stained fluorescent green, while the cell with damaged membranes(dead cells) stained fluorescent red and the background remained virtually nonfluorescent. The rations of live : dead cells in the cell suspension were controlled artifically and Live/Dead BacLight Viability kit was applied to them. The ratios of green:red fluorescent cells in the cell suspension were the same as those of live : dead cells controlled artifically. It was also approved by the fluorescence emission. The cell death constant was measured in the P-limited Anabaena flos-aquae chemostal culture in the N-fixing and $KNO_3-supplied$ conditions. The culture in N-fixing chemostat had a dead cell proportion of 1.2% at the growth rate of 0.7/day and increased to 2.6% at the growth rate of 0.3/day. The cell death constant of N-fixing culture was 0.008/day.There was a same trend in the $KNO_3-supplied$ chemostat culture. The proportion of dead cell was 1.6% of dead cell proportion at the growth rate of 0.7/day and increased to 4.3% at the growth rate of 0.3/day.

Characteristics of flexible indium tin oxide electrode grown by continuous roll-to-roll sputtering process for flexible displays

  • The preparation and characteristics of flexible indium tin oxide electrodes grown on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates using a specially designed roll-to-roll sputtering system for use in flexible optoelectronics In spite of low a PET substrate temperature, we can obtain the flexible electrode with a sheet resistance of 47.4 ohm/square and an average optical transmittance of 83.46 % in the green region of 500~550 nm wavelength. Both x-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) analysis results showed that all flexible ITO electrodes grown on the PET substrate were an amorphous structure with a very smooth and featureless surface, regardless of the Ar/$O_2$ flow ratio due to the low substrate temperature, which is maintained by a cooling drum. In addition, the flexible ITO electrode grown on the Ar ion beam treated PET substrates showed more stable mechanical properties than the flexible ITO electrode grown on the wet cleaned PET substrate, due to an increased adhesion between the flexible ITO and the PET substrates.

Evaluation of DNA Extraction Methods from Low Copy Number (LCN) DNA Samples for Forensic DNA Typing

  • DNA isolation for PCR-based short tandem repeat (STR) analysis is essential to recover high yields of amplifiable DNA from low copy number (LCN) DNA samples. There are different methods developed for DNA extraction from the small bloodstain and gloves, commonly found at crime scenes. In order to obtain STR profiles from LCN DNA samples, DNA extraction protocols, namely the automated $iPrep^{TM}$ $ChargeSwitch^{(R)}$ method, the automated $QIAcube^{TM}$ method, the automated $Maxwell^{(R)}$ 16 DNA $IQ^{TM}$ Resin method, and the manual $QIAamp^{(R)}$ DNA Micro Kit method, were evaluated. Extracted DNA was quantified by the $Quantifiler^{TM}$ Human DNA Quantification Kit and DNA profiled by $AmpFISTR^{(R)}$ $Identifiler^{(R)}$ Kit. Results were compared based on the amount of DNA obtained and the completeness of the STR profiles produced. The automated $iPrep^{TM}$ $ChargeSwitch^{(R)}$ and $QIAcube^{TM}$ methoas produced reproducible DNA of sufficient quantity and quality trom the dried blood spot. This two automated methods showed a quantity and quality comparable to those of the forensic manual standard protocols normally used in our laboratory. In our hands, the automated DNA extraction method is another obvious choice when the forensic case sample available is bloodstain. The findings of this study indicate that the manual simple modified $QIAamp^{(R)}$ DNA Micro Kit method is best method to recover high yields of amplifiable DNA from the numerous potential sources of LCN DNA samples.

A Study on the Relationship between R&D Culture and Job Involvement in Information Technology Industries (정보기술산업의 R&D 문화와 직무몰입에 관한 연구)

  • This paper aims to examine the main factors of the organizational climate and analyze their effects on job involvement. To accomplish these purposes, the nam factors of the organizational climate such as diversity, autonomy, redundancy, connectivity and flexibility were found from the previous studies. The questionaries of 350 were distributed to the employees working at the Gumi Industrial Complex. The questionaries of 298 were obtained and 267 were analyzed through frequencies, correlation and multiple regression. The results of this study are as followings; First, we conducted exploratory factor analysis for five constructs(diversity, autonomy, redundancy, connectivity and flexibility) using oblique rotation method that did not assume independence among the factors and main factors of knowledge management were grouped together by five factors. Second, it is shown that four main factors of organizational climate have a positive influence on the job involvement(p<0.05). This study, however, have limitations of number of sample and survey area. The future study should consider these limitations in improving model applicability in practice.

AUTOSAR Starter Kit for AUTOSAR Software Design (AUTOSAR 소프트웨어 설계를 위한 실습 환경)

  • An AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture (AUTOSAR) is a de-facto standardized software platform, which developed for an automotive Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in global automotive industry. AUTOSAR improves the reusability and the scalability, thus the software development can be easier, faster and more reliable. However, it requires a lot of time and efforts to develop an AUTOSAR software due to the difficulties of understanding of massive AUTOSAR documentations and complicated usage of AUTOSAR design tools. AUTOSAR training is offered by AUTOSAR design tool venders but it is limited to introduction of their simplified concept and usages based on PC. Therefore the training is not enough for industrial developers or graduate students. In this paper we present an AUTOSAR starter kit which allows industrial engineers and graduate students to practice the detailed process of AUTOSAR software development easily and more conveniently. The kit is composed of a practical environment similar to actual automotive system and a textbook that explains how to design AUTOSAR software. And we demonstrated the validity of our methodology based on a case study.

  • This paper presents a senior-level embedded software design course using a customized training kit. Embedded software design courses commonly entail a lot of practice hours and a semester-long project and thus requires a hardware platform on which the embedded software runs. A training kit has been designed such that both hardware system and operating system are not too complicated or heavy for undergraduate students to fully understand and to develop embedded software on their own. The course using the customized training kit gives the students hands-on experience of embedded software design and programming ranging from device drivers to user interface, thereby enabling them to have in-depth understanding of embedded software and to improve their programming skills more easily and faster than when using commercial training kits.

Influence of Partial Discharge Properties due to Void in Cable Joint Parts (케이블 접속재 부분방전 특성에 미치는 보이드의 영향)

  • To investigate the partial discharge and electric field distribution in cable joint parts, we measured the partial discharge and electric field in specimen. The specimens which cross-linked polyethylene(XLPE) and ethylene propylene diene ethylene(EPDM) are used to insulating material for underground cable md cable jointing parts. The polymers are used to insulating material in switchgear which is a kind of transformer equipment and in ultra-high voltage cable. Its using is increasing gradually, the electrical insulation properties are not only excellent but also mechanical property is excellent. And because it is possible to be made void of several type in insulator while it is produced, which the electrical field distribution is changed by void, it has a critical influence to insulator performance. The underground cable is connecting by the jointing material, insulating breakdown and the electric ageing which are caused by several mixing impurity and the damage of cable insulator layer, which reduced the life of cable while intermediate joint kit is connected. Therefore, the computer simulation is used to estimating insulator performance, XLPE is used to the insulating material of ultra-high voltage cable and EPDM is used to insulator layer in joint material kit, and which are produced as specimen. And it is analyzed the electric field concentrating distribution and partial discharge by modeling of computer simulation in void and cable joint kit.

Investigation of IZO/Al multilayer anode grown on PEN substrate by a twin target sputtering system for flexible top emitting organic light emitting diodes (TTS를 이용하여 PEN 기판 상에 성막한 플렉시블 전면 발광 OLED용 IZO/Al multilayer 애노드의 특성)

  • IZO/Al multilayer anode films for flexible top emitting organic light emitting diodes (TOLEDs) were grown on PEN (polyethylen-enaphthelate) substrate using twin target sputter (TTS) system. To investigate electrical and optical properties of IZO/Al multilayer films, 4-point probe method and UV/Vis spectrometer were used, respectively. From a IZO/Al multilayer films with 100nm-thick Al, sheet resistance of $1.4{\Omega}/{\square}$ and reflectance of above 62% at a range of 500~550nm wavelength could be obtained, In addition, structural and surface properties of IZO/Al multilayer films were analyzed by XRD (X-ray diffraction) and FESEM (field emission scanning electron microscopy) and AES (auger electron spectroscope), respectively. Moreover, flexibility of IZO/Al multilayer anode films were examined by bending test method.

Rapid thermal annealing effect of IZO transparent conducting oxide films grown by a box cathode sputtering (박스캐소드 스퍼터로 성장시킨 IZO 투명 전도막의 급속 열처리 효과)

  • We report on the rapid thermal annealing effect on the electrical, optical, and structural properties of IZO transparent conducting oxide films grown by box cathode sputtering (BCS). To investigate structural properties of rapid thermal annealed IZO films in $N_2$ atmosphere as a function of annealing temperature, syncrotron x-ray scattering experiment was carried out. It was shown that the amorphous structure of the IZO films was maintained until $400^{\circ}C$ because ZnO and $In_2O_3$ are immiscible and must undergo phase separation to allow crystallization. In addition, the IZO films grown at different Ar/$O_2$ ratio of 30/1.5 and 30/0 showed different preferred (222) and (440) orientation, respectively, with increase of rapid thermal annealing temperature. The electrical properties of the OLED with rapid thermal annealed IZO anode was degraded as rapid thermal annealing temperature of IZO increased. This indicates the amorphous IZO anode is more beneficial to make high-quality OLEDs.

  • We report on the fabrication of organic-based flexible display using an amorphous IZO anode grown at room temperature. The IZO anode films were grown by a conventional DC reactive sputtering on polycarbonate (PC) substrate at room temperature using a synthesized IZO target in a Ar/$O_2$ ambient. X-ray diffraction examination results show that the IZO anode film grown at room temperature is complete amorphous structure due to low substrate temperature. It is shown that the $Ir(ppy)_3$ doped flexible organic light emitting diode (OLED) fabricated on the IZO anode exhibit comparable current-voltage-luminance characteristics to OLED fabricated on conventional ITO/glass substrate. These findings indicate that the IZO anode film grown on PC substrate is a promising anode materials for the fabrication of organic based flexible displays.
