  • Purpose : To retestify about the changes of the range of motion and pain from kinesiotaping the erector spinae muscle. Method : Targeted the number of 30 people with low back pain and measured lumbar range of motion and pain before kinesiotaping on the erector spinae muscle. After that, the measured value were compared and analyzed. Result : First, before and after kinesiotaping, doing skin distraction test, the changes of the skin distance within each experiment group all statistically showed meaningful differences(p<0.05). Secondly, before and after kinesiotaping and testing pain threshold, it statistically showed meaningful differences(p<0.05). Conclusion : Both two groups showed that the change of the skin distance increased and the pain averagely decreased than before taping. Therefore, kinesiotaping is considered that it affected the low back, the range of motion and pain.

  • This study used both kinesiotaping and extracorporeal shock wave therapy on patients diagnosed with frozen shoulder - a common musculoskeletal disorder in adults - in order to observe the effects on the joint range of motion. 21 adult(male 12, female 9) were selected and distributed into randomized groups. One group received kinesiotaping (n=10) and the other group received kinesiotaping together with extracorporeal shockwave therapy (n=11). After a 6 week duration of receiving kinesiotaping and extracorporeal shockwave therapy, changes in the joint range of motion in the patients were observed. Post-treatment of frozen shoulder, the changes in abduction within the shoulder joint were as follows: in both groups there was a noticeable increase in the joint range of motion (p<.05). Post-treatment of frozen shoulder, the changes in external rotation within the shoulder joint were as follows: both groups showed a significant increase in the joint range of motion (p<.05). The result of suggest that, it can be inferred that both the extracorporeal shockwave therapy and kinesiotaping are effective in increasing the joint range of motion in patients with frozen shoulder.

  • Purpose : The purpose of the present study is to report the effect of proprioception of ankle after kinesiotaping application on ankle. Method : This study has conducted to target 30 average adult subjects with no damage to the ankle joint (16 males and 14 females). The group is divided into experimental group and sham groups in random way. The subjects in the experimental group are applied taping kinesiology on ankle joint. The subjects in the sham group are applied a sham taping on the ankle joint which is not actually affected for real ankle joint problem. Each subjects in both groups has tree trials in plantarflexion, dorsiflexion, inversion, and eversion before and after application of the kinesiotaping or sham taping of the bare footed ankle. The outcome were determined from the difference between the target angle and the trial angle produced by the subject. Results : These results from the experiment shows that the experimental group compared to the difference in kinesiotaping angle values were significantly different from each dorsiflexion (DF), eversion (EV) (p<.05). Otherwise, in the sham group did not produce significant differences in any joint movement. In addition, when we compared between two groups (the experimental and sham groups), it did not show that there was significant differences. Conclusion : First, there is no significant difference between the sham group and kinesiotaping group after proprioceptive tests. Second, even though there is no significant outcome in statistical analysis, there is actual differences in the experiment. This result might be ceiling effect, and if the kinesiotaping were applied to actual ankle injury patients, this taping treatment could be very effective for curing this patient.

  • The aim of this study was to observe the effects of kinesiotaping and joint mobilization on the metatarsophalangeal joint angle and pain in hallux valgus patients Twenty-one female hallux valgus patients in their 20s were divided into two groups, a Kinesiotaping group (KT, n=10) and another group with the addition of joint mobilization (KTJM, n=11). After undergoing 6 weeks of intervention, the change in the metatarsophalangeal joint and pain were measured. Metatarsophalangeal joint angle was significantly increased both the KT and the KTMJ group after intervention. In the change of pain, both the KT and KTJM groups on an individual basis also experienced a significant decrease in pain, though comparison between the two groups failed to represent a significant difference. These findings suggest that Kinesiotatping and joint mobilization increased the joint angle and reduced pain.

  • In this study, we are concluded like this : 5 men who are soccer player of P university in B city measure the Electromyography with an angle of motion according to kinesiotaping's application when practicing in-step kick. When exercising in-step kick, the change of realization of muscle load of lower limbs enhence Gastrocnemius Lateralis and Vastus Medialis in the section of backswing, and improve Tibialis Anterior, Vastus Medialis, Rectus Femoris prior to impact after back-swing. Before impact, it mainly impoved Tibialis Anterior, Vastus Medialis, Rectus Femoris. After impact, it generally improved Gastrocnemius Lateralis, Vastus Medialis. Average integral electromyography value, it was such a small difference(; the difference of the value in Tibialis Anterior, Rectus Femoris, Vastus Medialis) that we can't compare case of after taping than before. In Electromyography, in case of after taping was considerably decreased at Gastrocnemius Lateralis, there was statistically significant difference between before and after. It was a little increased, after taping than before at Knee angle. And degree was a little decreased at Ankle angle. But, It's so delicate difference, there was not statistically significant difference between before and after.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the immediate effect on the change in muscle stiffness in the common extensor muscle (CEM) when using the spiral taping method to promote proprioception. Methods: There were 18 participants in this study. CEM stiffness was measured using a MyotonePRO device with the subject in a sitting position and according to the proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) arm pattern. Elastic tape was used as the material for the three taping methods employed in the study: kinesiotaping (KT), right spiral taping (RST), and left spiral taping (LST). The taping methods were applied to the wrist extensor muscle with elongation position. Additionally, when performing PNF arm patterns, spiral taping in diagonal and spiral directions was used to promote CEM proprioceptors. The change in CEM stiffness was compared with the initial data values. Results: The results of this study were obtained by comparing and measuring changes in CEM stiffness using three different tapings. It was found that the stiffness change of the CEM was significant compared to the initial value, and the increase in stiffness of the CEM after RST application was also significant. Conclusion: The results of this study show that by affecting the strength and activation of the extensor muscle, taping performed through the RST method had the most positive effect on the change in CEM stiffness.

  • PURPOSE: In this study, we sought to investigate the effect of conservative ankle strengthening exercise programs using a Bosu® ball or taping, on the hallux valgus angle and the pain of hallux valgus patients in their 20s. METHODS: The hallux valgus angle, balance, and pain after measuring the hallux valgus were measured to select suitable subjects. In the ankle strengthening exercise group (ASG) an ankle strengthening exercise program using a Bosu® ball was performed for two sessions weekly for four weeks and the taping group (TG) was given Kinesiotaping® for two sessions weekly, two days per session, for four weeks. Before and after the experiment, a footprint was used to examine the changes in the hallux valgus angle and the visual analog scale (VAS) was used to measure pain. RESULTS: An evaluation of the post-experiment changes in the hallux valgus angle and pain showed statistically significant improvement in both groups. There was no statistically significant improvement between groups. CONCLUSION: These results show that both ankle strengthening exercises and Kinesiotaping® have a positive effect on the hallux valgus angle and pain.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of foam roller (FR) stretching, kinesiotaping (KT), and dynamic stretching (DS) on gait parameters after inducing muscle fatigue in the ankle joint. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: The subjects were thirty healthy young adults between the ages of 20 and 31 years at Baekseok University who voluntarily participated in this study. The participants were randomly assigned to either the FR group, KT group, or the DS group after inducing muscle fatigue of the ankle joint. Fatigue induction of the ankle joint muscles was performed by alternating a heel up and down exercise with the standing posture on the ground. The speed was maintained at 40 beats/minute using a metronome. Subsequently, the respective intervention was applied to each group. Gait parameters were measured before and after ankle muscle fatigue induction, and after intervention using the GAITRite system. One-way ANOVA was used to compare gait parameters among groups, while repeated measures ANOVA was used to compare gait parameters within each intervention group. Results: The FR group increased significantly in velocity, step length, and stride length except for cadence after intervention compared to after ankle muscle fatigue induction (p<0.01). Furthermore, the KT group showed significant increases in velocity, cadence, step length, and stride length after intervention, especially in cadence group (p<0.05). All intervention groups showed significant increases in stride length after intervention, especially the DS group (p<0.05). Conclusions: Therefore, we suggest that KT, FR, and DS can be an effective intervention on gait parameters when the ankle joint is unstable and injured.

  • The purpose of this systematic review is to investigate the effects of tape application on improving body conditions. The search strategy for this review included a literature search by members of the International Kinematic Academy in 12 countries between January 2014 and February 2015 using PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane, Google Scholar, websites and national journals. The search words included "Kinesiotape, Kinesio tape, kinesiotaping, elastic taping, taping, functional taping, myofascial taping, sensomotor taping". The review included all articles, even those published in different languages. These searches resulted in 821 publications. There are several effects of tape application were revealed such as improving blood circulation, lymphatic circulation, body range of motion, activation of mechanoreceptor and joint stability, and decreasing pain. No one negative about the positive effects of taping, however the more effort is required to find evidence of effects of tape application.

  • Background: The importance of postural stabilization and cervical mobilization in subjects with pain from the anterior head posture is drawing more attention. However, studies on head and neck stabilizing intervention after mobilization are lacking. Objective: To examine the effects of Kinesiotaping and posture setting exercise on forward head posture (FHP). Design: Crossover Study Design Methods: The subjects were 17 male and female college students in their 20s with FHP. They were randomized into the Kinesiology taping group (KTG) with 9 subjects and posture stabilizing exercise group (PSEG) with 8 subjects. The intervention was conducted for 4 weeks, and changes in pain, craniovertebral angle (CVA), and proprioception were observed before and after intervention. Results: Pain was significantly reduced in the KTG and PSEG both before and after intervention. CVA and proprioception were significantly increased only in the PSEG. The differences in CVA and proprioception between the two groups were significant. Conclusions: These findings suggest that the application of posture setting exercise could decrease pain, proprioceptive error and increase CVA on FHP.
