A director's servant leadership, kindergarten teacher's ego resilience and organizational commitment were assessed by a teacher-reported questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's product-moment correlation, and a structural equation model using the Bootstrapping method. Results: First, there were significant relationships among the variables analyzed in this research, namely, a director's servant leadership, kindergarten teacher's ego resilience and organizational commitment. Second, Teacher's ego resilience partially mediated the effect of a director's servant leadership upon kindergarten teacher'organizational commitment. • Objective: This study investigated the relationships between preschoolers' difficult temperament, resilience, problematic behaviors, and maternal parenting stress. In addition, the research examined the moderating effects of resilience on the relationships between maternal parenting stress, preschoolers'difficult temperament and problematic behaviors Methods: The participants were 200 four to six year olds attending kindergartens and daycare centers in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, or Gangwon-do. Mothers completed the questionaries to measure children's temperament, parenting stress, and problem behaviors. Children's resilience was assessed by teacher ratings. Results: Significant correlations were found among maternal parenting stress, preschoolers' difficult temperament and problematic behaviors. Moreover, resilience moderated the associations between difficult temperament and problematic behaviors but it did not moderate the relation between maternal parenting stress and problematic behaviors. Conclusion/Implications: The results suggest that it is necessary to provide comprehensive intervention to reduce maternal parenting stress and improve preschoolers'resilience in order to prevent their problematic behaviors.

  • The main purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships of children's creativity to field independence-dependence cognitive style and demographic variables at age 5. The subjects for the present study were 86 five-year-old boys and girls selected from two kindergartens in Seoul and their parents, who replied to the questionnaire about demographic variables. Children were tested in groups, with the Torrance tests of Creative Thinking-Figural, and individually with the Preschool Embedded Figures Test. The data were analyzed by one way ANOVA, t-test, and Pearson's product-moment correlations. Children's fluency and originality in creativity showed significant positive correlations with field dependent-independent cognitive style. There were no significant differences in creativity according to sex. There were significant differences in field dependent-independent cognitive style according to sex. The score of field independent cognitive style of boys were significantly higher than those of girls. Children's creativity showed low correlations with demographic variables.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of parents' repeated reading of the same storybook on young children's independent reading. The subjects were forty five- and six-year-old children and their parents. The children attended four preschools and kindergartens in three cities, Ann Arbor, Northville, and Jackson, Michigan, U.S.A. The family SES varied. Observation of parent-child verbal interaction during storybook reading was carried out in a naturalistic way. The storybook used for this study was The Berenstain Bears visit the dentist(Berenstain & Berenstain, 1981). The parents were asked to read the stroybook aloud to the target child, as they usually did, four times within 2 weeks, but to audiotape the first and fourth reading. The paired t-test was employed to test for the difference in the frequency of the child's taking over of storybook reading between the fir-st and fourth reading. The results showed that children took over storybook reading more frequently in the fourth reading than in the first reading, irrespective of the family SES. Implications for future research in the area of storybook reading were discussed.

  • In this study, interviews were administered to 160 children (80 boys and 80 girls) of 8 kindergartens in urban and rural areas to investigate their awareness of the effects of environmental pollution. Instruments were picture cards and a questionnaire on environmental issues, based on the revised Korean version of Cohen and Horm-Wingerd's measurement. Children's responses were classified into either awareness or non-awareness of the effect of environmental pollution. Frequencies and percentages were calculated by sub-category and tested by sex and residence, using ${\chi}^2$. Major findings were that (1) 66.0% of the children were. aware of the effects of environmental pollution. (2) 78.1% were aware of the effects of water pollution while more than half the subjects were also aware of the effects of air pollution and soil pollution. (3) Children thought that natural conditions (52.0%), human bodies (30.9%), and the daily life of people (11.7%), would be affected by environmental pollution.

  • The present study investigated the print richness of early childhood classrooms and examined differences in classroom literacy environment by teacher demographics. The 117 participants were teachers of kindergartens and daycare centers. They responded to a 33-item questionnaire constructed by Wolfersberger et al.(2004). Questionnaire categories included literacy items pertaining to classroom environment and literacy items pertaining to teacher-student interactions. Major findings were that the classroom literacy environment was usually satisfactory. The age and career of teachers was the predictor of the classroom literacy environment, especially 'providing the classroom with literacy tools' and 'arranging literacy tools in the classroom space'.

  • Using content analysis this study examined Korean people's traditional view on children with disabilities, hoping to contribute to the selection of appropriate picture books for an understanding of disabilities in kindergartens and child care centers. Story book characters with disabilities mainly interacted with their families and village people, had lower positions, did not accomplish their work on their own, and suffered from others' anger and beating. Differences in types of disabilities were that physical disabilities were viewed positively, while mental disabilities were viewed negatively. The former had wider scope of activities and maintained more positive relationships with other characters than the latter; furthermore, the former had higher position than the latter and had cooperative interactions with people without disabilities.

Integrated movement activities were applied in the experimental group for 7 weeks. Integrated movement activities were focused on the life theme according to the annual and weekly education plan and were composed by integrating both the basic area and the application area of movement. At the end of the training period, differences were found in fundamental and expressive movement ability between the experimental and the control groups.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relations among locus of control(LOC), self-concept and self-attribution in five-year-old children. The subjects were 107 five-year-old children attending 7 public kindergartens. Instruments used in this study were the Stanford Preschool Internal-External Scale (Mischel, Zeiss, & Zeiss, 1974), the Self-Concept Inventory (Joo Ree-bun, 1982), and puzzle-task employed by Burns et al. (1985). Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficient and t-test. The results showed (1) significant correlations between the total LOC score and self-concept, (2) significant differences in the total LOC score between the internal self-attribution group and the external self-attribution group, and (3) significant differences in self-concept between the internal self-attribution group and the external self-attribution group.
