  • Although existing algorithms can predict wind speed using historical observation data, for engineering feasibility, most use moment methods and probability density functions to estimate fitted parameters. However, extreme wind speed prediction accuracy for long-term return periods is not always dependent on how the optimized frequency distribution curves are obtained; long-term return periods emphasize general distribution effects rather than marginal distributions, which are closely related to potential extreme values. Moreover, there are different wind speed parent sample types; how to theoretically select the proper extreme value distribution is uncertain. The influence of different sampling time intervals has not been evaluated in the fitting process. To overcome these shortcomings, updated steps are introduced, involving parameter sensitivity analysis for different sampling time intervals. The extreme value prediction accuracy of unknown parent samples is also discussed. Probability analysis of mean wind is combined with estimation of the probability plot correlation coefficient and the maximum likelihood method; an iterative estimation algorithm is proposed. With the updated steps and comparison using a Monte Carlo simulation, a fitting policy suitable for different parent distributions is proposed; its feasibility is demonstrated in extreme wind speed evaluations at Longhua and Chuansha meteorological stations in Shanghai, China.

  • In this paper, the aerodynamic performance of the Basalt Fiber Reinforced Polymer (BFRP) bionic plate wind turbine blade with different pitch angles, incoming wind speeds and rotational speeds was investigated. The influence of the tower shadow effect on the wake velocity, aerodynamic load, displacement and stress of BFRP bionic plate wind turbine blade under the rated condition was obtained by establishing the whole machine model including tower tube, and the error analysis of the simplified calculation formula of aerodynamic load was carried out. Results show that the incoming wind speed has a great influence on the stress and wind speed backflow and the tower shadow effect has a great influence on the horizontal thrust and torque of BFRP bionic plate wind turbine blade. The simplified calculation formula of aerodynamic load can accurately simulate the displacement and stress trend of BFRP bionic plate wind turbine blade and the recommended values of the pitch angle, incoming wind speed and the rotational speed of BFRP bionic plate wind turbine blade were given. The research results can provide the dynamic parameter reference for the engineering design of BFRP bionic plate wind turbine blade.

  • The quality of track-bed fills of railways has been controlled by field measurements of density $({\gamma}_d)$ and the results of plate-load tests. The control measures are compatible with the design procedures whose design parameter is $k_{30}$ for both ordinary-speed railways and high-speed railways. However, one of fatal flaws of the design procedures that there are no simple laboratory measurement procedures for the design parameters ($k_{30}$ or, $E_{v2}$ and $E_{v2}/E_{v1}$) in design stage. A new quality control procedure, in parallel with the advent of the new design procedure, is being proposed. This procedure is based upon P-wave velocity involving consistently the evaluation of design parameters in design stage and the field measurements during construction. The Key concept of the procedure is that the target value for field compaction control is the P-wave velocity determined at OMC using modified compaction test, and direct-arrival method is used for the field measurements during construction. The procedure was verified at a test site and the p-wave velocity turned out to be an excellent control measure. The specifications for the control also include field compaction water content of OMC${\pm}$2% as well as the p-wave velocity.

  • In this study, Directed energy deposition (DED) among additive manufacturing is applied to repair damaged spindle key parts of planner miller. The material of the spindle key is SCM415, and the P21 Powder is used. In order to find the optimal deposition conditions for DED equipment, a single-line deposition experiment is conducted to analysis five parameters. The laser power affects the width, and the height is a parameter affected by coaxial gas and powder gas. In addition, laser power, powder feed rate, coaxial gas, and powder gas are parameters that affect dilution. Otimal deposition is that 400 W of laser power, 4.0 g/min of powder feed rate, 6.5 L/min of coaxial gas, 3.0 L/min of powder gas and 4.5 L/min of shield gas. By setting the optimum conditions, a uniform deposition cross section in the form of an ellipse can be obtained. Damage recovery process of spindle key consists of 3D shape design of the base and deposition parts, deposition path creation and deposition process, and post-processing. The hardness of deposited area with P21 powder on the SCM415 spindle key is 336 HV for the surface of the deposition, 260 HV for the boundary area, and 165 HV for the base material.

  • With the increasing demand for head-mounted display applications, the image quality provided by a near-eye display device is a key factor in satisfying the consumer. Among various techniques to realize a near-eye display that has a thinner volume than the working distance of a human eye, a lightfield image-generation method based on a pinhole array is attracting much attention, with its simple and thin structure. In this paper, we propose a numerical analysis of the visual parameters and verifications with computational reconstruction.

  • Novel design of a wideband monopole antenna for DVB-H service is presented. The proposed antenna is designed based on a monopole antenna. It consists of folded monopole and parallel parasitic element. The folded segment of the folded monopole makes the antenna shorter. The length of the parasitic element obtains additional resonance frequencies. The gap distance between the folded monopole and the parasitic element is a key parameter to control impedance matching for wideband operation. The antenna has wide band performance, good impedance and radiation characteristics from 470 MHz to 870 MHz. The measured return loss for operating frequencies over DVB-H band is better than 10 dB. Good radiation patterns are also obtained. The measured results are compared with calculated results using Ansoft HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator).

  • A key parameter in the design of a laterally loaded pile is the determination of its performance level. Performance level of a pile is usually expressed as the maximum head deflection and bending moment. In general, uncertainties in the performance of a pile originates from many factors such as inherent variability of soil properties, inadequate soil exploration programs, errors taking place in the determination of soil parameters, limited calculation models as well as uncertainties in loads. This makes it difficult for practicing engineers to decide for the reliability of laterally loaded piles both in cohesive and cohesionless soils. In this paper, limit state functions and consequent performance functions are obtained for single concrete piles to predict the maximum bending moment, a widely accepted design criterion along with the permissible pile head displacement. Analyses were made utilizing three dimensional finite element method and soil-structure-interaction (SSI) effects were accounted for.

  • Lactic acid production parameter optimization using Lactobacillus amylovorus NRRL B-4542 was performed using the design of experiments (DOE) available in the form of an orthogonal array and a software for automatic design and analysis of the experiments, both based on Taguchi protocol. Optimal levels of physical parameters and key media components namely temperature, pH, inoculum size, moisture, yeast extract, $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_20$, Tween 80, and corn steep liquor (CSL) were determined. Among the physical parameters, temperature contributed higher influence, and among media components, yeast extract, $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_20$, and Tween 80 played important roles in the conversion of starch to lactic acid. The expected yield of lactic acid under these optimal conditions was 95.80% and the actual yield at optimum conditions was 93.50%.

  • When developing engine mount, interm mount bracket 1st resonance is critical to make sound quality better or worse. So, at the initial stage of development, we need to consider some design parameter to setup the target of interm bracket 1st resonance. Especially, 3cylinder interm bracket guideline is not well known. So, this paper deals with some important sensitivity which should be considered during the development of vehicle. From source to interior side, we should know the component sensitivity like body sensitivity p/F or bracket gain etc. Through this paper, we could get the knowledge of design guideline and key consideration points.
