  • In this study, cross-cultural comparison of sound sensation for Korean traditional silk fabrics between Korea and America was performed and prediction models for sound sensation by objective measurements including sound parameters such as level pressure of total sound (LPT), Zwicker's psychoacoustic characteristics, and mechanical properties by Kawabata Evaluation System were established for each nation to explore the objective parameters explaining sound sensation of the Korean traditional silk. As results, Koreans felt the silk fabric sounds soft and smooth while Americans were revealed as perceiving them hard and rough. Both Koreans and Americans were pleasant with sounds of Gongdan and Newttong and especially Newttong was preferred more by Americans in terms of sound sensation. In prediction models, some of subjective sensation were found as being related mainly with mechanical properties of traditional silk fabrics such as surface and compressional characteristics.

  • In order to develop the air flow finishing machine with low tension drying and surface modification by high impact effect, the treatment characteristics and the moving speed of fabrics was analysed and investigated in the newly developed system. The change of handle before and after treatment of fabrics measured using Kawabata system. The moving speed in air nozzle was affected by an air pressure of blower, and the maximum value was 1,000 m/min. In accordance with the change of handle, the treatment effect was very different compared with untreated fabrics. And the drape properties of fabrics increased about 10∼45% compared with untreated one.

  • Each cotton fiber is a unicellular hair collected from the seed of cotton plant. The fiber contains many convolutions along its length. Mercer was the first to suggest caustic soda treatment of cotton in commercial application. Mercerization has been commercially used since Lowe's suggestion to endow cotton with increased strength and affinity for dyes with additional properties such as fabric touch or luster. In this study, cotton fabric specimens were mercerized to investigate the changes in physical and mechanical properties pertaining to the hand or touch of fabrics. Physical properties were measured using the KES(Kawabata Evaluation System).

  • The line-width of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was studied as a function of the temperature at a frequency of 9.49 GHz in the presence of external electromagnetic radiation. The relative frequency dependence of the absorption power is obtained with the projection operator technique (POT) proposed by Kawabata. The line-width increased as the temperature increased in the high-temperature region (T>200 K). The scattering is little affected in the low-temperature region (T<200 K) because there is no correlation between the resonance field and the Fermi-Dirac distribution function. Thus, the present technique is considered to be more convenient to explain the resonant system as in the case of other optical transition problems.

  • This paper proposes a method of learning control in DC servomotor using a neural network. First we estimate the pulse transfer function of the servo system with an unknown load, then we determine the best gains of I-PD control system using a neural network. Each time the load changes, its best gains of the I-PD control system is computed by the neural network. And the best gains and its pulse transfer function for the case are stored in the memory. According the increase of the set of gains and its pulse transfer function, the learning control system can afford the most suitable I-PD gains instantly.

  • This paper proposes a method of suboptimal control for DC servomotor using a neural network. First we consider a nonlinear observer which is constructed by using an approximated linear dynamics of the nonlinear system and a, neural network. The reccurent neural network is used for the learning of the dynamical system. Next we consider the nonlinear observer. Then, we apply the observer output to nonlinear optimal regulator and confirm the effectiveness by applying the method to the inverse pendulum system.

  • The objective of this study is to increase the insight of the mechanical behaviour of high-strength concrete prepared with fiber reinforcement after exposure to elevated temperatures. In particular, the result of the effects of contents of polypropylene fiber and level of preload on the residual compressive strength, load bearing and stress-strain curve of concrete are discussed

  • In this paper, we propose a composition method of the template image whose detection performance does not have incorrect detection and improves also on the tough photography conditions of the outdoors, rainy weather and night. This research was done to measure a relative position between a spreader and a target container with image processing to realize full-automatic quayside gantry cranes. By the proposal method, we confirmed that the template image for object detection has a contour image more effective than a gray image.

  • In general it is difficult to determine a Liapunov function for a given asymptotically stable, nonlinear differential equations system. But, in the system with control inputs, it is feasible to make a given positive function, except for a small area, globally satisfy the conditions of the Liapunov function for the system. We call such a positive function a Liapunov-like function, and propose a method of nonlinear optimal regulator using this Liapunov-like function. We also use the periodic Liapuitov-like friction that suits the system whose equilibrium points exist periodically. The relationship between the Liapunov function and cost function which this nonlinear regulator minimizes is considered using inverse optimal method.

  • Starting with Kubo's formula and using the projection operator technique introduced by Kawabata, EPR lineprofile function for a $Mn^{2+}$-doped wurtzite structure GaN semiconductor was derived as a function of temperature at a frequency of 9.49 GHz (X-band) in the presence of external electromagnetic field. The line-width is barely affected in the low-temperature region because there is no correlation between the resonance fields and the distribution function. At higher temperature the line-width increases with increasing temperature due to the interaction of electrons with acoustic phonons. Thus, the present technique is considered to be more convenient to explain the resonant system as in the case of other optical transition systems.
