  • Aspergillosis is an opportunistic infection associated with diabetes, alcoholism, use of corticosteroid and transplantation procedure. Aspergillosis of central nervous system is a rare disease and known to show an aggressive course with high mortality. We managed two cases of cerebral aspergillosis, following cranial operation, with combination therapy of surgery and antifungal agents. One patient recorvered but the other patient died. The clinical course of these two patients is presented with review of pertinent literature.

  • Cupressaceae plants are used in traditional folk medicine. whose extracts have been found to possess some bioactivities. (-)-Yatein is a lignan of the dibenzyl-butyrolactone type. that has been isolated from some Cupressaceae plants. It was reported that (-)-yatein. isolated from plants. showed different activities from the synthetic yatein [3]. Hence. the enantiosetective determination of yatein from synthetic materials and natural products would be necessary. (omitted)

  • A few t-amine substituted anilines and amides were synthesized and cyclized to pyrrolo[1,2-a]benzimidazole by heating in various solvents having different polarity. Subsequent nitration of cyclized compound followed by reduction and oxidation of resulting amine afforded quinone such as 7 in 14% yield. The formation of imidazole moiety by thermal cyclization was independent on the solvent polarity. The regiochemistry for the nitration of 4 was unambiguously determined by chemical transformation.

  • Brown syndrome is known as limited elevation of the affected eye during adduction. It is caused by a disorder of the superior oblique tendon, which makes it difficult for the eyeball to look upward, especially during adduction. It is classified into congenital true sheath Brown syndrome and acquired simulated Brown syndrome. Acquired simulated Brown syndrome can be caused by trauma, infection, or inflammatory conditions. The surgical restoration of blowout fractures can also lead to limitations of ocular motility, including Brown syndrome. We report on three patients with acquired simulated Brown syndrome, who complained of diplopia and limitation of ocular motility after operations to treat blowout fractures.
