  • Low temperature plasma (LTP) treatment using oxygen gas was applied to a wool fabric. The LTP treated wool fabric was tested with several methods: ASTM D5035-1995, ASTM D1424-1996, AATCC Test Method 99-2000, AATCC Test Method 61-2001 lA, AATCC Test Method 15-2002 and AATCC Test Method 8-2001 and the results were compared with the industrial requirements (ASTM D3780-02 and ASTM D4155-0l). The results revealed that the LTP treated wool fabric could fulfil the industrial requirements. The results of the investigation were discussed thoroughly in this paper.

  • Recombinant Escherichia coli NZN111 ($F-{\Delta}pfl::Cam$ ldhA::Kan) harboring pTrcML, a plasmid containing the E. coli malic enzyme gene, produced considerable amount of malic acid along with the desired product succinic acid. This seemed to be due to the unmatched redox states between glucose and succinic acid. Therefore, a more reduced carbon substrate sorbitol was examined for the possibility of matching the potential during succinic acid production. When NZN111 (pTrcML) was cultured in LB medium containing 20 g/L sorbitol under $CO_2$ atmosphere, 10 g/L of succinic acid was produced. The apparent yield of succinic acid was 1.1 g succinic acid per g sorbitol, which is 85% of the maximum theoretical yield.

  • In this paper, we derive maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) and approximate MLEs (AMLEs) of the unknown parameters in a generalized half logistic distribution when the data are upper record values. As an illustration, we examine the validity of our estimation using real data and simulated data. Finally, we compare the proposed estimators in the sense of the mean squared error (MSE) through a Monte Carlo simulation for various record values of size.

  • This paper describes the electrical and optical characteristics of $N_2$ doped porous 3C-SiC films. Average pore diameter is about 30 nm and etched area was increased with $N_2$ doping rate. The mobility was dramatically decreased in porous 3C-SiC. The band gaps of polycrystalline 3C-SiC films and doped porous 3C-SiC were 2.5 eV and 2.7 eV, respectively.

  • For the reliability of controllers in a software defined network (SDN), a dynamic and self-learning schedule method (DSL) is proposed. This method is original and easy to deploy, and optimizes the combination of multiple controllers. First, we summarize multiple controllers' combinations and schedule problems in an SDN and analyze its reliability. Then, we introduce the architecture of the schedule method and evaluate multi-controller reliability, the DSL method, and its optimized solution. By continually and statistically learning the information about controller reliability, this method treats it as a metric to schedule controllers. Finally, we compare and test the method using a given testing scenario based on an SDN network simulator. The experiment results show that the DSL method can significantly improve the total reliability of an SDN compared with a random schedule, and the proposed optimization algorithm has higher efficiency than an exhaustive search.

  • In this study, we will analyze the artistic character of Jogakbo as a element of fashion art design. Korean traditional Jogakbo is a common homemade item made from clothing remnants and is a part of the culture of womens quarters. Currently, Jogakbo is higly regarded for its artistic value and it finds a variety of uses in fashion. In particular, it is striking how its modern-style geometric lines and color composition are congruous with abstract art. In applying Jogakbo to fashion art design, we study the artistic expression of Jogakbo in 4 aspects; namely, line, color, material, and technique; and analyze the 4 artistic characteristics; beauty of naivety, simplicity, moderation and freedom. 8 dresses designed based on these 4 characteristics are presented as examples.

  • Three dimensional flow above a sand dune has been studied numerically by using Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) method. The movement of the sand which is formed by converging wind directions has been investigated. The numerical method employed in this study can be divided into three parts: (i) calculation of the air flow above the sand dune using MAC method with a generalized coordinate system; (ii) estimation of the sand transfer caused by the flow through the friction; (iii) determination of the shape of the sand surface. Since the computational area has been changed due to step (iii), (i)(iii) are repeated. The simulated dune, which has initially elliptic cross section, extending at the converging direction which is known as linear dunes.

  • This paper introduces the hull deflection analysis method by using the direct measurements. Accordingly, this paper demonstrates how the hull deflection data is obtained by the reverse calculations using the bending moments from the stain gauge and bearing reactions from jack-up method. Where the hull deflection data provided by this research is used for the shafting alignment calculations for identical or similar vessels, shafting failures due to hull deflections can be minimized. It will also save time and expenses associated finite element method to predict hull deflections.
