  • Standard CTD data processing recommended by Sea-Bird Electronics produced thermal-lag corrections larger than 0.1 psu for the data taken during the CREAMS expeditions in the northern part of the East/Japan Sea where a vertical temperature gradient frequently exceeds 1.0$^{\circ}$C/m in the upper 100 m near the sea surface. As the standard processing is based upon a recursive filter which was introduced by Lueck and Pickle (1990), coefficients of the recursive filter have been newly derived for the CREAMS data by minimizing the difference between salinities of downcast and upcast in temperature-salinity domain. The new coefficients are validated by comparison with salinities measured by a salinometer, AUTOSAL 8400B. An accurate correction for the thermal-lag is critical in identifying water masses at intermediate depth in the East/japan Sea.

  • We extracted significant wave height (SWH) using several altimeter missions from 1987-1995 over the Northwest Pacific ocean and compared with ECMWF (European Center for Medium- Range Forecast) reanalysis (ERA) products. For large wave heights the ERA wave heights are smaller than the altimetric ones, while for small wave heights the ERA wave heights are larger Comparison in SWH between altimetric derivations and ERA model products shows the discrepancy of 0.46-0.21$\times$SWH (m). Methods for propagating this differences into ERA wind error are presented.

  • Cyclooxygenase (Cox-2) is involved in tumorigenesis. hence. considered to be a molecular target for chemoprevention and chemomodulation. Selective Cox-2 inhibitors including Celecoxib and Nimesulide have been studied for their anticancer activity when given alone and in combination with radiation or cytotoxic agents. In this study, we synthesized more than 140 analogues of Celecoxib and Nimesulide. and evaluated their inhibitory effects on Cox-l and Cox-2 activity as well as cytotoxicity in order to find promising anticancer agents having selective Cox-2 inhibitory effect. • The Korean peninsula has a number of coastal sites where the rhythmic rising and lowering of water surface due to tides result in strong tidal current. The kinetic energy of these currents can be efficiently exploited by using tidal current turbines. The pilot tidal current power plant is to be constructed at the Uldolmok between Chindo and Haenam. Extensive coastal engineer ing research works have been carried out. This paper describes some observation results of field campaign, design of the supporting structure of a pilot plant of 1,000kW and a future tidal current power plant and so on.

  • We have experienced two cases of complicated teratoma in anterior mediastinum. One case, 1-year-old female, has a huge anterior mediastinal teratoma involving almost all of the left pleural cavity with atelectasis of the left lung. The other case, 12-year-old female, has a anterior mediastinal teratoma with fistula between the teratoma and the bronchus of anteromedial basal segment of left lung. The bronchus has a bronchiectatic change with cell infiltration. We performed exploratory thoracotomy with complete excision of tumor mass in both cases and with additional resection of anteromedial basal segment of the left lung due to inflammation and necrosis in latter case. The patients had uneventful postoperative courses and were discharged in good condition. Histopathologic diagnosis of these were benign teratoma consist of skin, skin appendages, cartilage, connective tissue, and gut.

  • The pilot tidal current power plant is to be constructed at the Uldolmok between Chindo and Haenam, during next year, and extensive coastal engineering research works have been carried out. In this paper we describes some observation results of the tide and tidal current, as well as modeling work in order to investigate the tide and tidal current regime change In relation to the tidal current power plant [TCPP] construction. The special modeling skill in order to consider the turbine operation in the TCPP is developed and applied to the estimation for the flow regime change by the simple layout of the tidal current power plant.

  • Most of the patient with endobronchial tuberculosis have some degree of bronchial stenosis. however, a part of bronchial stenosis need aggressive treatment for the patency because of severe symptoms. The self-expendable metallic stents provide palliative treatment for narrowed airways where surgical resection is inadvisable. We experienced a successful left wedge pneumonectomy on a 29-year-old woman with obstruction of left main bronchus due to complication of the bronchial stent. She had inserted self-expendable metallic stents on left main bronchus of the tuberculous bronchial stenosis two times. There was no specific postoperative complication.

  • A DEM(digital elevation model) is generated from a SPOT panchromatic stereo-pair using automated algorithms over a 8 km$\times$10 km region around Mokpo city. The aims are to continue the accuracy assessment over diverse conditions and to examine the applicability of a SPOT DEM for coastal disaster monitoring. The accuracy is assessed with respect to three reference data sets: 10 global positioning system records, 19 leveling data, and 1:50,000 topography map. The planimetric error is 10.6m r.m.s. and the elevation erroer ranges from 12.4m to 14.4m r.m.s.. The DEM accuracy of the flat Mokpo region is consistent with that over a mountainous area, which supports the robustness of the algorithms. It was found that coordinate transformation errors are significant at a few meters when using the data from leveling and topographic maps. The error budget is greater than the requirements for coastal disaster monitoring. Exploiting that a sub-scene is used, the affine transformation improves the accuracy by 50% during the camera modeling.

  • To compare and analyze the differences between flight simulation and actual flight among 130 army helicopter pilot training subjects, the correlation analysis was performed first through t-testing and multiple regression analysis of individual characteristics and flight simulation and actual instrument flight training, which were analyzed significantly in the age (a3) and service classification (a5) of the six verification factors. This has been shown to be significant, with no difference between the flight simulator and the actual flight. Second, in order to study the correlation between aircraft types, the flight evaluation (v1) was analyzed as a dependent variable for the performance of the flight simulator (KUH: s2, UH60: s3, AH-1S: s5, UH-1H: s6), and the results of the multiple regression analysis of the flight simulator evaluation (s1) were analyzed, in contrast, as a dependent variable, and in conclusion, the training of the flight simulator provided statistical data on the possibility of replacing the actual flight training, which is thought to contribute to the orientation, budget reduction and aviation safety of the pilot training.
