KINITI collects a wide variety of information resources such as serials, monographs, reports, microfilms/fiches etc. in the field of science, technology, and industry. This is an overview of KINITI-LIS(Library Information System). KINITI-LIS has been developed using IBM 3090/150 E by KINITI staffs. Subsystems of KINITI-LIS are as follows ; acquisition system, cataloging system, retrieval system, circulation system, serials control system.

The author describes document delivery services and document usage patterns of domestic users based on usage statistical data about photocopying service of KINITI that the most important document delivery organization in Korea. And investigated ordering procedures of users, number of document processed and rejected in photocopying service, and delivery methods for users and so on. In FY 1996, number of document in photocopying service increased 2.4 percent in proportion to previous year.

This article describes the methodologies and case studies related to the evaluation of serials. A Total of 1,529 titles of serials, which were 1997 subscription titles of KINITI in the fields of science and technology, were analyzed. Two methods were employed in the study : the analysis of the opinions of subject specialists and the analysis of the cost per use. The purpose of study are 1) to suggest the models for evaluating serials 2) to identify the characteristics of the core serials.

This study, through the use of the comparative method, intends to contribute to the effective and productive use of Korea's STI. This study first tries to understand the nature of ST1 as well as the development in the field of science and technology in Korea. And then, the historical background of the two leading ST1 centers. KINITI(Korea Institute of Industry & Technology Information) and KORDIC(Korea Research & Development Information Center), is described. Furthermore, the ST1 structures of KINITI and KORDIC are compared and analyzed in the light of their network, collection development, databases, and information services. Finally, based on these findings, this study tries to make some policy recommendations.

This study attempts to provide the foundation that KINITI and industrial su n.0, pporting organizations can be strong information analysis centers if they fortify their information analysis activities. The following conclusions are resulted from the analysis in the state-of-the-art-report covered in national information flow system, service methods and their publications of the information analysis activities provided by the KINITI and industrial su n.0, pporting organizations. First, the KINITI and industrial su n.0, pporting organizations have not be acquiring enough information materials. The services for bibliographic information should guarantee the uses of original documents. Second, the number of organizations providing on-line information services has been increasing, but the provided materials are not sufficiently suited for user's requests. Third, the speedy information provision and efficient information dissemination for the end users in the long distance may be possible through on-line service, but it requires information analysis procedure to select the necessary information in our industrial environment. Forth, the information activities provided by the libraries of industrial su n.0, pporting organizations should be fortified.
