  • In recent years wind turbine technology has undergone the rapid development in response to the demands for increased use of renewable sources of energy. Using wind turbines for production of electrical energy requires reliable operation. The increased share of wind power in electrical system makes it necessary to have grid-friendly interfaces between the wind turbines and the grid in order to maintain power quality. Increasingly wind turbines are being connected into electricity distribution system. The grid-connected wind power stations have many impacts on power systems such as voltage variations, harmonics. The paper investigates the influences of grid-connected wind power generation system on substation bus voltage.

  • The purpose of this paper is to explain techniques achieved while developing a transient stability program which is suitable to Korean power system. It concentrates on the development of a synchronous machine model, exciter models and turbine-governor models used in large-scale power system stability analysis. These proposed models enhance the performance of the developing program. This developing program has been tested with the KEPCO system, and the simulation results obtained from the program are compared to those of commercial programs.

  • In general, it is supposed that load characteristics of high and low voltage distribution line are always coincidence. But in practical distribution system, voltage variation characteristics of high and low voltage distribution line are not same. Then in this paper, we proposes a voltage regulation method considering load variation characteristics of high and low voltage distribution line in distribution system.

  • This paper presents the analysis of Cheju power system characteristics by performing modeling/simulation in order to match the field recorded data. The comparisons between simulation results and recorded data does not show good match due to the incorrect supposed data, but it is believed that this study is enough to simulate the Cheiu power system characteristics.

  • A new technique using search method based on fuzzy multi-criteria function is proposed fur flexible generator maintenance scheduling. Minimization of probabilistic production cost, maximization of system reliability level and air pollution are considered fur fuzzy multi-criteria function. To obtain an optimal solution for generator maintenance scheduling under fuzzy environment fuzzy multi-criteria relaxation method(fuzzy search method) is used. The practicality and effectiveness of the proposed approach are demonstrated by the simulation results of the real size model system of KEPCO-1997 SYSTEM.

  • In this paper, we present the design of a system on a chip(SoC) based on Powerline Communication for Power-IT. The SoC deals with power information obtained from analog to digital converter and transmits this data via powerline. We integrate main processor, ADC and PLC function into a chip. Also a FPGA-based emulation system is introduced to evaluate a proposed SoC architecture.

  • As Decentralized Generation(DG) becomes more reliable and economically feasible, it is expected that a higher application of DG units would be interconnected to the existing grids. This new market penetration of DG technologies is linked to a large number of factors like technologies costs and performances, interconnection issues, safety, market regulations, environmental issues or grid connection constrains. Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) has researched performance characteristics of the 60k W class 1) basic start-up & shutdown operation analysis 2) interconnection test 3) MGT -absorption chiller-heater system in the local condition. Variations of heat recovery from exhaust gas has measured according to micro gas turbine output of 15, 30, 45, 60kW. From those results, the performance of the MGT-absorption chiller/heater system has been evaluated. The suggested strategy and experience for the evaluation of the distributed generation will be used for the introduction of other distributed generation technologies into the grid in the future.

  • An electric power system sometimes fails because of disturbances that occur unexpectedly, such as the uncontrolled loss of load that developed from cascading blackout. Which make stability through a little of under voltage load shedding should work. The development of phasor measurement unit(PMU) makes network supervision possible. The information obtained from PMU is synchronized by global positioning system(GPS). There are many real-time algorithms which are monitoring the voltage stability. This paper presents the study on the VILS(Voltage Instability Load Shedding) using PMU data. This algorithm computes Voltage Stability Margin Index(VSMI) continuously to track the voltage stability margin at local bus level. The VSMI is expressed as active and reactive power. The VSMI is used as an criterion for load shedding. In order to examine the algorithm is effective, applied to KEPCO system.

  • The increase of fault current due to large demand has caused the capacity of power machines in power grid to increase. To protect the power system effectively from the large fault current, several superconducting fault current limiters have been proposed. however, in order to apply superconducting fault current limiters into power system, there are many problems such as cost, recovery, AC loss, and cryogenic. In order to solve these problems, hybrid superconducting fault current limiter(HSFCL) was proposed. However, HSFCL also has a problem that is protective coordination in distribution system with HFSCL. In this paper, HSFCL limiting after half cycle modeled and analyzed about protective coordination.

  • An on-line diagnostic test has been studied and performed for the pumped storage generator/motor. This study aims at reducing the diagnostic cost, minimizing the technical dependency on third party manufactures. Further design of on-line diagnostic system such as shorted-turn of rotor winding, partial discharge (PD) of stator winding and air-gap between stator and rotor for pumped storage generator/motor has been verified. In addition, it needs to be validated on site performance of the developed continuous on-line monitoring system for corresponding tasks for the improvement of the availability & reliability during operation.
