  • Recently, with the development of cloud computing, interest in database outsourcing is increasing. However, when the database is outsourced, there is a problem in that the information of the data owner is exposed to internal and external attackers. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a parallel range query processing algorithm that supports privacy protection. The proposed algorithm uses the Paillier encryption system to support data protection, query protection, and access pattern protection. To reduce the operation cost of a checking protocol (SRO) for overlapping regions in the existing algorithm, the efficiency of the SRO protocol is improved through a garbled circuit. The proposed parallel range query processing algorithm is largely composed of two steps. It consists of a parallel kd-tree search step that searches the kd-tree in parallel and safely extracts the data of the leaf node including the query, and a parallel data search step through multiple threads for retrieving the data included in the query area. On the other hand, the proposed algorithm provides high query processing performance through parallelization of secure protocols and index search. We show that the performance of the proposed parallel range query processing algorithm increases in proportion to the number of threads and the proposed algorithm shows performance improvement by about 5 times compared with the existing algorithm.

  • In this paper, we describe the world's first real-time ray-tracing chip architecture. Ray-tracing technology generates high-quality 3D graphics images better than current rasterization technology by providing four essential light effects: shadow, reflection, refraction and transmission. The real-time ray-tracing chip named RayChip includes a real-time ray-tracing graphics processing unit and an accelerating tree-building unit. An ARM Ltd. central processing unit (CPU) and other peripherals are also included to support all processes of 3D graphics applications. Using the accelerating tree-building unit named RayTree to minimize the CPU load, the chip uses a low-end CPU and decreases both silicon area and power consumption. The evaluation results with RayChip show appropriate performance to support real-time ray tracing in high-definition (HD) resolution, while the rendered images are scaled to full HD resolution. The chip also integrates the Linux operating system and the familiar OpenGL for Embedded Systems application programming interface for easy application development.

  • In this paper, we propose a scheme to reduce the number of shadow tests conducted during rendering of ray tracing. The shadow test is a very important process in ray tracing to generate photo-realistic images. In the rendering phase, the ray tracer determines whether to cull the shadow test based on information calculated from a shadow test conducted on the kd-tree in the preprocessing phase. In conventional rendering process, the proposed method can be used with little modification. The proposed method is suitable for a static scene, in which the geometry and light source does not change in the same manner as it does in the conventional method. The validity of the proposed scheme is verified and its performance is evaluated during cycle-accurate simulation. Through experiment results, we found that we could reduce up to 17% of the shadow test.

  • Existing index structures need very much update cost because they repeat delete and insert operations in order to update continuously moving objects. In this paper, we propose a new index structure which reduces the update cost of continuously moving objects. The proposed index structure consists of a space partitioning index structure that stores the location of the moving objects and an auxiliary index structure that directly accesses to their current positions. In order to increase the fanout of the node, it stores not the real partitioning area but kd-tree as the information about the child node of the node. In addition, we don't traverse a whole index structure, but access the leaf nodes directly and accomplish a bottom-up update strategy for efficiently updating the positions of moving objects. We show through the various experiments that our index structure outperforms the existing index structures in terms of insertion, update and retrieval.

  • This paper presents and discusses an implementation of the GPU shifted sorting method to find approximate k nearest neighbors which executes within "warp", the minimum execution unit in GPU parallel architecture. Also, this paper presents the comparison results with other two common nearest neighbor searching methods, GPU-based kd-tree and ANN (Approximate Nearest Neighbor) library. The proposed implementation focuses on the cases when k is small, i.e. 2, 4, 8, and 16, which are handled efficiently within warp to consider it is very common for applications to handle small k's. Also, this paper discusses optimization ways to implementation by improving memory management in a loop for the CUB open library and adopting CUDA commands which are supported by GPU hardware. The proposed implementation shows more than 16-fold speed-up against GPU-based other methods in the tests, implying that the improvement would become higher for more larger input data.

  • In this paper, we propose the index structure supporting the future position retrievals with efficiently updating continuous positions of moving objects in location based services. For reducing update costs of moving objects, our index structure directly accesses to the leaf node with moving objects using secondary index structure and performs bottom up update when node information is changed. Positions of moving objects are stored in primary index structure. In primary index structure, the split information similar to kd-tree is stored to internal node for increasing node's fanout. And the proposed index structure supports the future position retrievals using velocity of moving objects in the child node.

  • Copy-move forgery (CMF) in digital images is a detrimental tampering of artefacts that requires precise detection and analysis. CMF is performed by copying and pasting a part of an image into other portions of it. Despite several efforts to detect CMF, accurate identification of noise, blur and rotated region-mediated forged image areas is still difficult. A novel algorithm is developed on the basis of quaternion polar complex exponential transform (QPCET) to detect CMF and is conducted involving a few steps. Firstly, the suspicious image is divided into overlapping blocks. Secondly, invariant features for each block are extracted using QPCET. Thirdly, the duplicated image blocks are determined using k-dimensional tree (kd-tree) block matching. Lastly, a new technique is introduced to reduce the flat region-mediated false matches. Experiments are performed on numerous images selected from the CoMoFoD database. MATLAB 2017b is used to employ the proposed method. Metrics such as correct and false detection ratios are utilised to evaluate the performance of the proposed CMF detection method. Experimental results demonstrate the precise and efficient CMF detection capacity of the proposed approach even under image distortion including rotation, scaling, additive noise, blurring, brightness, colour reduction and JPEG compression. Furthermore, our method can solve the false match problem and outperform existing ones in terms of precision and false positive rate. The proposed approach may serve as a basis for accurate digital image forensic investigations.

  • 3D rendering is becoming a common feature of mobile application programs with the rapid advance of mobile devices. Since the existing rendering engines do not provide triangulation functions, mobile 3D programs have focused on an efficient handling with pre-tessellated geometry. In addition, triangulation is comparatively expensive in computation, so it seems that the triangulation cannot be easily implemented on mobile devices with limited resources. Triangulation of 3D geometry is the essential process of visualization of 3D model data and many different triangulation methods have been reported. We developed a light and fast visualization process that involves constrained triangulation based on Voronoi diagram and applied it to a mobile computer application. In this paper, we applied kd-tree to the original incremental construction algorithm and produced new O(nlogn) incremental construction algorithm. And we show a simple and efficient constrained triangulation method based on Voronoi diagram. This paper also describes an implementation of mobile STEP data viewer as an application of our proposed algorithms.

  • Action recognition has been studied in computer vision field for years. We present an effective approach to recognize actions using a dimension reduction method, which is applied as a crucial step to reduce the dimensionality of feature descriptors after extracting features. We propose to use sparse matrix and randomized kd-tree to modify it and then propose modified Local Fisher Discriminant Analysis (mLFDA) method which greatly reduces the required memory and accelerate the standard Local Fisher Discriminant Analysis. For feature encoding, we propose a useful encoding method called mix encoding which combines Fisher vector encoding and locality-constrained linear coding to get the final video representations. In order to add more meaningful features to the process of action recognition, the convolutional neural network is utilized and combined with mix encoding to produce the deep network feature. Experimental results show that our algorithm is a competitive method on KTH dataset, HMDB51 dataset and UCF101 dataset when combining all these methods.

  • In most database systems images have been indexed indirectly using related texts such as captions, annotations and image attributes. But there has been an increasing requirement for the image database system supporting the storage and retrieval of images directly by content using the information contained in the images. There has been a few indexing methods based on contents. Among them, Pertains proposed an image indexing method considering spatial relationships and properties of objects forming the images. This is the expansion of the other studies based on '2-D string. But this method needs too much storage space and lacks flexibility. In this paper, we propose a more flexible index structure based on kd-tree using paging techniques. We show an example of extracting keys using normalization from the from the raw image. Simulation results show that our method improves in flexibility and needs much less storage space.
