An abundance of information is available regarding soil horizons and their characteristics. Several methods can be used to gather and analyze this information. Through the use of qualitative analysis in the field, and laboratory and statistical analysis, a soil can be compared and analyzed with a great deal of scrutiny. Four soil pits were excavated in Citrus County Florida and samples were collected from each master horizon. Through the use of qualitative and quantitative analysis these samples were compared and analyzed in order to identify unique, as well as homogeneous features. It was determined that the soil profile designated Old Pit was different than other profiles because of landscape position and variations in parent material. Landscape position (ie. slope position) also influenced the genesis and evolution of the soils in the other three profiles(Profile 1, 2 and 3).

We conducted field and laboratory observations of the life histories and fungal hosts of the darkling beetle, Platydema nigroaeneum Motschulsky. P. nigroaeneum, a fungivorous tenebrionid beetle, was a widespread inhabitant of fungi on deciduous trees (Quercus, Salix, Alnus and Carpinus etc.) in Korea. Development from egg to adulthood took $4\sim11$ months in nature and about 66 days in the laboratory at $25.5{\sim}26.1^{\circ}C$ and $63.5\sim64.5%$ relative humidity. Both larvae and adults overwintered in their host fungi or beneath the bark of the host tree near the host fungi. Sporophores of Coriolus $Qu{\acute{e}}let$, Bjerkandera Karst., Daedaleopsis Schroet. and Merulius were common feeding and breeding sites in Korea.

The present writer have been engaged in research the Karst topography of Korea from the 1950's. Especially, I have studiedthe hollows indicated on topographical maps(1:5,000, 1:50,000) in library side by side with field survey. As the side by side with field survey. As the result, I came to a conclusion that all the hollows in limestone area are not always dolines. Based on case study, I classified the hollow landforms into 10 groups as follow. 1) Solution hollow 2) Volcanic hollow 3) Desertic hollow 4) Structural hollow 5) Meteoric hollow 6) Limnoic hollow 7) Minal hollow 8) Artificial hollow 9) Bursted hollow 10) Compound hollow I am asking advices of you all.

To investigate antitumor components of Korean higher fungi, the carpophores of Ganoderma lucidum (Fr.)Karst. were collected at Gal-mae-ri in Gyeong-gi Province and extracted with 0.1N sodium hydroxide solution. The extract was purified by dialyzing through Visking tube and a dark brownish power was obtained. The antitumor activity of the fraction was tested against sarcoma 180 implanted in mice. The tumor inhibition ratio of the fraction against the tumor was 87.6% in doses of 50 mg/kg/day for the period of ten days. The tumor in five of 15 mice was completely regressed. The antitumor fraction was chemically analyzed and found to be a complex of polysaccharide and protein, from which four monosaccharides and eighteen amino acids were identified.

In order to find less toxic antiviral agents from basidiomycetes, EA, the water soluble substance, was isolated from the carpophores of Elfvingia applanata (Pers.) Karst. Anti-encephalomyocarditis (EMC) virus activity of EA was examined in Vero cells by plaque reduction assay in vitro. And the combined antiviral effects of EA with interferon (IFN) alpha and gamma were examined on the multiplication of EMC virus. EA exhibited a concentration-dependent reduction in the plaque formation of EMC virus with 50% effective concentration ($EC_{50}$) of 2.12 mg/ml. The results of combination assay were evaluated by the combination index (CI) that was analysed by the multiple drug effect analysis. The combination of EA with IFN alpha showed potent synergism with CI values of 0.40~0.60 for 50%, 70% and 90% effective levels, but that with IFN gamma showed antagonism with CI values of 2.16~2.83.

The combination of EA with IFN alpha on Flu A showed more potent synergism with CI values of 0.50~0.52 of 50%, 70%, 90% effective levels than that with IFN gamma with CI values of 0.82~0.99.

Antimicrobial activity of GL (the aqueous extract from the carpophores of Ganoderma lucidum ($F_RK_{KARST}$) was tested in vitro aginst Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria by serial broth dilution method, and the antimicrobial activity was expressed by minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC). Among fifteeen species of bacteria tested, the natimicrobial activity of GL was of antimicrobial combinations of GL with four kinds of antibiotics (ampicilin, cefazolin, oxytet-racycline and chloramphenicol), the fractional inhibitory concentraction index (FICI) was determined by checkerboard assy for each stain. The antimicrobial combinations of GL with four antibiotics resulted in additive effect in most instances, synergism in two instances, and antagonism in two instances. Synergism was obversed when GL was combined with cefazolin against Bacillus subtilis and Klebsiella oxytoca.

Two Inonotus species newly found in Japan were described. I. formosanus T.T. Chang & W.N. Chou was identified with the following characters; thin basidocarps with hispid when young and later the erect hyphae agglutinate to scrupose tuft, pore surface light yellow to rusty brown later, absence of setal hyhpae, ventricose hymenial setae, and small ellipsoid, hyaline to yellowish basidiospores. I. nodulosus (Fr.) P. Karst. was identified with the following characters; basidocarps nodulose, wart-like shape, scrupose to warted by agglutinated hayphae, margin up to 5 mm, pore surface cinnamon to rusty brown when dry with a whitish or silvery shine, absence of setal hyphae, acute straight hymenical setae, ellipsoid to subglobose basidiospores, which are weakly dextrinoid in Melzer's reagent.

A very high content (at least 0.23%) of ergosterol peroxide was isolated from Naematoloma fasciculare Karst. Not only ergosterol peroxide but also ergosterol showed very strong anticomplementary activity on the classical pathway, the $IC_{50}$ values being $5.0 {\mu}M$ and $1.0 {\mu}M$, respectively. The $ ^{1}H $and $^{13}C$ NMR data of ergosterol peroxide were revised and completely assigned by DEPT, $^{1}H-^{1}H$ COSY, HMQC and HMBC correlations.

The largest array SKA (Square Kilometre Array) project was proposed by astronomers from 10 countries, and first coordinated by the LTWG (Large Telescope Working Group) formed at the General Assembly of URSI (International Union of Radio Science) in 1993. It enters the pre-construction phase (2012-2015), towards the 10% SKA construction (2016-2019) called SKA1 and the rest of SKA (2019-2023) called SKA 2, under the leadership of the SKA Organisation (SKAO) established on November 23, 2011. I will review the Chinese participation in the SKA project at national, regional and global levels in the past two decades. During such a Long March to the SKA, a number of national Megascience projects have taken root and have been (are being) successfully constructed, with costs at the 100 M US dollar level, including the largest dish FAST (Five-hundred meter Aperture Spherical Telescope), which can be seen as a forerunner of the KARST (Kilometre Area Radio Synthesis Telescope) project, being as one of the two LDSN (Large Diameter Small Number) concepts for realizing the SKA. A close look at the FAST project gives an impressive snapshot of the construction phase in China.
