  • Marquardt method is used to estimate the aerodynamic parameters in urban area of Beijing City, China, including displacement length (d), roughness length ($z_0$) and friction velocity (u*) and drag coefficient. The surface drag coefficient defined as the ratio between friction velocity and mean wind speed is 0.125 in our research, which is close to typical urban area value. The averaged d and $z_0$ are 1.2 m and 7.6 m. d and $z_0$ change with direction because of the surface heterogeneity over urban surface and reach their maximum values at S-SW sector, this tendency agrees with the surface rough element distribution around the observation tower.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate shear bond strength of glass ionomer cements and compomer according to dentin surface treatment method. The materials used in this study were dentin conditioner and cavity conditioner for dentin treatment: Ketacfil, Fuji II LC, and Dyract for restoration. In this study, 90 sound bovine teeth were selected and then the teeth were embeded in improved stone and were grounded with 400 to 600 grit silicon carbide paper to create a flat dentin surfaces. The teeth were divided into nine groups as follows ; Group 1A : Samples bonded to dentin surface with Ketacfil after no treatment Group 1B : Samples bonded to dentin surface with Ketacfil after applicating dentin conditioner Group 1C : Samples bonded to dentin surface with Ketacfil after applicating cavity conditioner Group 2A : Samples bonded to dentin surface with Fuji II LC after no treatment Group 2B : Samples bonded to dentin surface with Fuji II LC after applicating dentin conditioner Group 2C : Samples bonded to dentin surface with Fuji II LC after applicating cavity conditioner Group 3A : Samples bonded to dentin surface with Dyract after no treatment Group 3B : Samples bonded to dentin surface with Dyract after applicating dentin conditioner Group 3C : Samples bonded to dentin surface with Dyract after applicating cavity conditioner Treated dentin surfaces were observed under SEM. After filling of each materials, shear bond strenth was evaluated and then debonded surfaces were observed under SEM. The following results were obtained; 1. The shear bond strengths obtained were decreased as Fuji II LC, Dyract, Ketacfil in that order and there was statistically significant difference(p<0.05). 2. About Group 1. the shear bond strengths were decreased as 1C, 1B and 1A in that order. But there was no significant difference between group 1B and 1C (p<0.05). 3. About Group 2, the shear bond strengths were decreased as group 2B, 2A and 2C in that order. And there was significant difference between group 2B and 2C (p<0.05). 4. About Group 3, the shear bond strengths were decreased as group 3A, 3C and 3B in that order. And there was signicant difference between group 3A and 3B (p<0.05). 5. As a result of observation under SEM, the fracture patterns of Fuji II LC and Dyract were adhesive failures, but those of Ketacfil were cohesive failure of material and mixture of cohesive and adhesive failure.

  • Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) are emerging contaminants in the aquatic environment. Many pharmaceuticals are not completely removed during wastewater treatment, leading to their presence in wastewater treatment effluents, rivers, lakes, and ground water. Here, we developed analytical methods for monitoring ten pharmaceuticals from surface water by LC/ESI-MS/MS. For sample clean-up and extraction, MCX (mixed cation exchange) and HLB (hydrophilic-lipophilic balance) solid-phase extraction (SPE) cartridges were used. The limits of detection (LOD) in distilled water and the blank surface water were in the range of 0.006 - 0.65 and 1.66 - 45.05 pg/mL, respectively. The limits of quantitation (LOQ) for the distilled water and the blank surface water were in the range of 0.02 - 2.17 and 5.52 - 150.15 pg/mL, respectively. The absolute recoveries for fortified water samples were between 62.1% and 125.4%. Intra-day precision and accuracy for the blank surface water were 2.9% - 24.1% (R.S.D.) and -16.3% - 16.3% (bias), respectively. In surface wastewater near rivers, chlortetracycline and acetylsalicylic acid were detected frequently in the range of 0.017 - 5.404 and 0.029 - 0.269 ng/mL, respectively. Surface water near rivers had higher levels than surface water of domestic treatment plants.

  • We applied KF on CIGS film to modify CIGS surface with a wider-bandgap surface layer. With the KF deposition the surface of CIGS film had fine particle on the CIGS surface at 350 and $300^{\circ}C$. No fine particle was detected at 500 and $250^{\circ}C$. With the KF treatment, the Ga and O content increased at the surface, while the In and Cu content decreased. The valence band maximum was lowered with KF treatment. The composition profile and band structure were positive side of applying KF on the CIGS surface. However, the efficiency decreased with the KF treatment due to high series resistance, probably due to too thick surface layer. A smaller amount of KF should be supplied and more systematic analysis is necessary to obtain a reproducible higher efficiency CIGS solar cells.

  • Surface Solar Insolation is important for vegetation productivity, hydrology, crop growth, etc. In this study, Surface Solar Insolation is estimated using Multi-functional Transport Satellite (MTSAT-1R) in clear and cloudy conditions. For the Cloudy sky cases, the surface solar insolation is estimated by taking into account the cloud transmittance and multiple scattering between cloud and surface. This model integrated Kawamura's model and SMAC code computes surface solar insolation with a 5km ${\times}$ 5km spatial resolution in hourly basis. The daily value is derived from the available hourly Surface Solar Insolation, independently for every pixel. To validation, this study uses ground truth data recorded from the pyranometer installed by the Korea Meteorological Agency (KMA). The validation of estimated value is performed through a match-up with ground truth. Various match-up with ground truth. Various match-up window sizes are tested with 3${\times}$3, 5${\times}$5, 7${\times}$7, 9${\times}$9, 10${\times}$10, 11${\times}$11, 13${\times}$13 pixels to define the spatial representativity of pyranometer measurement, and to consider drifting clouds from adjacent pixels across the ground station during the averaging interval of 1 hour are taken into account.

  • To investigate the characteristics of nitrocarburizing for high carbon chromium bearing steel, it was undertaken 4 hours holding at $850^{\circ}C$ in the atmosphere containing 60% endothermic gas and 40% ammonia. The microstructure of nitrocarburized surface consists of ${\varepsilon}-Fe_{2-3}N$, ${\gamma}^{\prime}-Fe_4N$, $Fe_3C$ and $Fe_3$(C,N), and the ${\varepsilon}$-nitride was rich in the surface-internal part. The nitrocarburized surface contains a larger volume fraction of primary carbonitrides and has more retained austenite and is slightly harder than the interior.

  • The primary objective of this study is to investigate the feasibility of an innovative surface-mount sensor, made of a piezoelectric disc (PZT sensor), as a consistent source for surface wave velocity and transmission measurements in concrete structures. To this end, one concrete slab with lateral dimensions of 1500 by 1500 mm and a thickness of 200 mm was prepared in the laboratory. The concrete slab had a notch-type, surface-breaking crack at its center, with depths increasing from 0 to 100 mm at stepwise intervals of 10 mm. A PZT sensor was attached to the concrete surface and used to generate incident surface waves for surface wave measurements. Two accelerometers were used to measure the surface waves. Signals generated by the PZT sensors show a broad bandwidth with a center frequency around 40 kHz, and very good signal consistency in the frequency range from 0 to 100 kHz. Furthermore, repeatability of the surface wave velocity and transmission measurements is significantly improved compared to that obtained using manual impact sources. In addition, the PZT sensors are demonstrated to be effective for monitoring an actual surface-breaking crack in a concrete beam specimen subjected to various external loadings (compressive and flexural loading with stepwise increases). The findings in this study demonstrate that the surface mount sensor has great potential as a consistent source for surface wave velocity and transmission measurements for automated health monitoring of concrete structures.

  • A physical and numerical steady flow impinging jet has been used to simulate the bulk characteristics of a downburst-like wind field. The influence of downdraft tilt and surface roughness on the ensuing wall jet flow has been investigated. It was found that a simulated downdraft impinging the surface at a non-normal angle has the potential for causing larger structural loads than the normal impingement case. It was also found that for the current impinging jet simulations, surface roughness played a minor role in determining the storm maximum wind structure, but this influence increased as the wall jet diverged. However, through comparison with previous research it was found that the influence of surface roughness is Reynolds number dependent and therefore may differ from that reported herein for full-scale downburst cases. Using the current experimental results an empirical model has been developed for laboratory-scale impinging jet velocity structure that includes the influence of both jet tilt and surface roughness.

  • The tracking pattern formed on the dielectric surface due to a surface electrical discharge exhibits fractal structure. In order to quantitatively investigate the fractal characteristics of the surface tracking pattern, the dielectric breakdown model has been employed to numerically generate the surface tracking pattern. In dielectric breakdown model, the pattern growth is determined stochastically by a probability function depending on the local electric potential difference. For the computation of the electric potential for all points of the lattice, a two-dimensional discrete Laplace equation is solved by mean of the successive over-relaxation method combined to the Gauss-Seidel method. The box counting method has been used to calculate the fractal dimensions of the simulated patterns with various exponent $\eta$ and breakdown voltage $\phi_b$. As a result of the simulation, it is found that the fractal nature of the surface tracking pattern depends strongly on $\eta$ and $\phi_b$.
