In this report, we present in-orbit radiometric performance prediction for the Amon-Ra (Albedo Monitor and Radiometer) energy channel instrument. The Integrated Ray Tracing (IRT) computational technique uses the ray sets arriving at the Amon-Ra instrument aperture orbiting around the L1 halo orbit. Using this, the variation of flux arriving at the energy channel detector was obtained when the Amon-Ra instrument including the energy channel design observes the Sun and Earth alternately. The flux detectability was verified at the energy channel detector (LME-500-A, InfraTecTM). The detector time response and RMS signal voltage were then derived from the simulated flux variation results. The computation results demonstrate that the designed energy channel optical system satisfies the in-orbit detectability requirement. The technical details of energy channel instrument design, IRT model construction, radiative transfer simulation and output signal computation results are presented together with future development plan.
Improvements in wireless sensor network (WSN) technology have resulted in a large number of applications. WSNs have been mainly used for monitoring applications, but they are also applicable to target tracking, health care, and monitoring with multimedia data. Nodes are generally deployed in environments where the exhausted batteries of sensor nodes are difficult to charge or replace. The primary goal of communication protocols in WSNs is to maximize energy efficiency in order to prolong network lifetime. In this paper, various medium access control (MAC) protocols for synchronous/asynchronous and single/multi-channel WSNs are investigated. Single-channel MAC protocols are categorized into synchronous and asynchronous approaches, and the advantages and disadvantages of each protocol are presented. The different features required in multi-channel WSNs compared to single-channel WSNs are also investigated, and surveys on multi-channel MAC protocols proposed for WSNs are provided. Then, existing broadcast schemes in such MAC protocols and efficient multi-hop broadcast protocols proposed for WSNs are provided. The limitations and challenges in many communication protocols according to this survey are pointed out, which will help future researches on the design of communication protocols for WSNs.

In this paper, we consider a channel ordering problem that seeks to minimize the total interference in mobile radio networks. If a base station receives connection request from a mobile user, one of the empty channels that are fixed to the base station is assigned to the mobile user. Among several channels available, we can choose one that seems to make least interference with other channels assigned to adjacent base stations. However, a pair of channels that are not separated enough do not generate interference if both of them are not simultaneously used by mobile users. That is, interference between channels may vary depending on the channel assignment sequence for each base station and on the distribution of mobile users. To find a channel assignment sequence that seems to generate minimum interference, we develop an optimization model considering various scenarios of mobile user distribution. Simulation results show that channel assignment sequence determined by the scenario based optimization model significantly reduces the interference provided that scenarios and interference costs are properly generated.
In this study, we consider the characteristics of channel flow in the presence of an infinite streamwise array of equispaced identical rotating circular cylinders. This flow configuration can be regarded as a model representing a micro channel or an internal heat exchanger with cylindrical vortex generators. A numerical parametric study has been carried out by varying Reynolds number based on the bulk mean velocity and the cylinder diameter, and the gap between the cylinders and the channel wall for some selected angular speeds. An immersed boundary method was employed to facilitate implementing the cylinders on a Cartesian grid system. No-slip condition is employed at all solid boundaries including the cylinders, and the flow is assumed to be periodic in the streamwise direction. The presence of the rotating circular cylinders arranged periodically in the streamwise direction causes a significant topological change of the flow, leading to increase of mean friction on the channel walls. More quantitative results as well as qualitative physical explanations are presented to justify the effectiveness of rotating cylinders to modify flow topology, which might be used to enhance heat transfer on the channel walls.

In this paper, we present a channel access mechanism, referred to as the enhanced mesh coordinated channel access (eMCCA) mechanism, for IEEE 802.11s-based wireless mesh networks. The current draft of IEEE 802.11s includes an optional medium access control (MAC), denoted as MCCA, which is designed to provide collision-free and guaranteed channel access during reserved periods. However, the MCCA mechanism fails to achieve the desired goal in the presence of contending non-MCCA nodes; this is because non-MCCA nodes are not aware of MCCA reservations and have equal access opportunities during reserved periods. We first present a probabilistic analysis that reveals the extent to which the performance of MCCA may be affected by contending non-MCCA nodes. We then propose eMCCA, which allows MCCA-enabled nodes to enjoy collision-free and guaranteed channel access during reserved periods by means of prioritized and preemptive access mechanisms. Finally, we evaluate the performance of eMCCA through extensive simulations under different network scenarios. The simulation results indicate that eMCCA outperforms other mechanisms in terms of success rate, network throughput, end-to-end delay, packet-loss rate, and mesh coordinated channel access opportunity-utilization.

Experimental investigations of the heat transfer and friction factors in the ribbed divergent rectangular channel with the channel exit hydraulic diameter to inlet hydraulic diameter ratio of 1.16 were performed. The surface heaters were mounted onto the two opposite walls. The main experimental parameter is the ratio of rib pitch (p) to height (e), at which the ratios (p/e) of 6, 10, and 14 are considered in the channel with ribs on one wall only. The straight ribbed square channel is also considered as a comparison. The major findings are that the ratio of p/e = 6 shows the highest values in the heat transfer and the ratio of p/e = 10 indicates the greatest friction factor in the ribbed divergent channel. Editor's note:No major changes or corrections needed. Well written.

In this paper, we suggest the novel MIMO-UWB transceiver structure which can easily be adapted for various MIMO schemes and presents MIMO channel model for obtaining correlation characteristics among channels to analyze the performance. From the indoor channel modeling, we obtain the interferences among antennas due to the MIMO channel formation through numerical simulation and analyze the performance of MIMO-UWB system under frequency selective fading. Especially, to reduce the excessive computational complexity due to the inverse matrix computation of channel transfer function, we take the scheme combining the transmitting signals estimated from each receiving antenna after recovering each transmitting antenna signal from a receiving antenna.

The numerical alaysis of optical device, silicabased device, are presented. The purpose of this paper is to simulate and to design a 8-channel optical wavelength division multiplexer(OWDM) based on Mach-Zehnder Interferometer(MZI) with wavelength spacing between channels Δλ=0.8 nm at central wavelength λ=1.55 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. In initial condition fur simulating, we assumed as follows. A channel waveguide is made from silica based P-doped SiO2 core layers in order to coupling with a fiber easily and its core dimension was 6 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$$\times$6 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The core and clad index of channel waveguide were 1.455 and 1.444, separately, at λ=1.55 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Where, the separation between channel waveguides in coupling region was 3 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. As a result of analysis, a group mode index of channel waveguide was 1.4498370, was gained by Hermite-Gaussian Method(HGM). Also, the channel spacing was determined by the waveguide arm length difference and was Δλ=0.8 nm as like a proposed condition. The central wavelength of a designed-multiplexer was activated about wavelength λ=1.55 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and we certificated that it can be used to 8-channel optical wavelength division multiplexer/demultiplexer.

In this paper, we derive the channel capacity in order to transmit an additional data by using digital watermarking method in generalized-K fading channel. Spread spectrum watermarking is one of the digital watermarking methods which is the most promising technique due to it's very robustness to the channel noise and easy achieving of the signal detection by correlators at the receiver. It is important to analyze the channel capacity to transmit an additional data through wireless channel because the transmitted data would be affected by the channel fading effects. From the results, we confirm that the channel capacity of the SSW system can be determined by the HWR, WNR, PN length and host sampling frequency. Also, we verified that the level of HWR and WNR can be determined by the derived capacity formula. The results of this paper can be applied to general spread spectrum watermarking system.

In this paper, we propose the channel estimation scheme for Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) downlink system. The proposed scheme uses the fast fourier transform (FFT) interpolation scheme for the user moving at a high speed. The FFT interpolation scheme converts the channel frequency response obtained from least square (LS) or minimum mean square error (MMSE) channel estimation scheme to time domain channel impulse response by taking the inverse FFT (IFFT). After windowing the channel response in the time domain, we can obtain the channel frequency response by taking the FFT. We perform the system level simulation based on 20MHz bandwidth of 3GPP LTE-A downlink system. Simulation results show that the proposed channel estimation scheme can improve signal-to-noise-plus-interference ratio (SINR), throughput, and spectral efficiency of conventional system.
