The optimum condition for the extraction of antimicrobial substance from Lithospermi radix was investigated. For the purpose of obtaining basic data for the development of natural preservatives and for the prevention of food poisoning accidents, its antimicrobial activity was tested against several kinds of saprophytic microbes and food poisoning bacteria. The optimum condition for extraction of antimicrobial substance was to steep Lithospermi radix into 95% ethanol for 24 hours at room temperature. Antimicrobial activity was observed at the pH range $5.0{\sim}8.0$, but its activity became stronger at acidic condition. The result of ion exchange chromatography was showed that the antimicrobial activity of anionic portion was more apparent than that of cationic portion. The antimicrobial activity against Gram positive bacteria was stronger than that of Gram negative bacteria and the growth of food poisoning bacteria such as S. aureus and V. parahaemolyticus was inhibited in the concentration of 0.1% for 48 hours. As for mold and yeast, the growth of some kinds of these organisms was inhibited in the concentration of 0.1 % for 48 hours and the growth of nearly all the fungi was inhibited in the concentration of 0.15% for 96 hours.

This research is to investigate the changes in Mercury content of fishes, washed with times by the flowing water or immersed into the acetic acid solutions with different densities (1%, 3% and 5%), after contaminating them artificially on purpose, in the solutions with inorganic mercury. The results were summarized as follow: 1. Average values of mercury content in sand-fish and sardine, as a dried ones, which had not been treated by the mercurial solutions, were 0.027 ppm and 0.020 ppm, respectively. 2. According to the changes, with times, in contained by the flowing water, after immersed into 1 ppm $HgCl_2$ solution for 24 hours, The sand-fish washed for 9 minutes had the least of Mercury, which is about 25% of contained quantity of Mercury of those not cleansed. While the sardines cleansed for 3 minutes had the least of Mercury, which is about 77% of contained quantity of Mercury of those not cleansed. 3. According to the changes in contained quantity of the samples treated by the acetic acid solutions with different densities, the sand-fish treated by 3% acetic acid solution had the least value of remains, which was reduced by 64%, in comparision with that of fish cleansed for 1 minute, while the sardines, treated by 1% acetic acid solution had the least amount of remains, which was reduced by 16% in comparision with that of fish, cleansed for 1 minute.

The present paper was attempted to obtain the basic date concerning a reasonable preparing method and optimum fermentation conditions of Kochujang (Red pepper paste). To establish the standard quality of Kochujang, the chemical compositions and the volatile components of Kochujang was discussed. The native Kochujang collected from 80 households contained 40.51% of moisture, 6.00% of salts, 3.25 % of crude fat, 10.30 % of crude ash, pH 4.79, 9.28ml of tillable acidity. 19.60% of reducing sugar, 179.51 mg/100g of amino nitrogen and 4.43% of total nitrogen. The volatiles of Kochujang were extracted by a steam-distillation under the reduced pressure and determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Total volatile components identified in the native Kochujang were 46 components, i. e., 30 components in neutral fraction, 8 components in phenolic fraction and 8 components in acidic fraction, respectively. But no components were detected basic fraction.

This experiment was carried out to study the preparations of red pepper oleoresin, the effects of pH and heat treatment on the stabilities of capsanthin and capsaicin in oleoresin state, and the interacting effects of ascorbic acid, metal salts and EDTA on the stabilities of capsanthin in the oleoresin-linoleate aqueous model system. The results were as follows: 1. Acetone was the most effective solvent to extract capsanthin and capsaicin from red pepper powder. The yield of oleoresin extracted with acetone was 14.27%. 2. Capsaicin was more stable at high temperature than capsanthin in oleoresin state. Capsanthin and capsaicin in oleoresin state were comparatively stable in the range (ron) pH 3 to pH 8. 3. Ascorbic acid acted as a prooxidant on the capsanthin oxidation reaction at concentrations up to $10^{-3}M$, but acted as an antioxidant at $10^{-1}M$. 4. The addition of $Cu^{+2}M$ and $Fe^{+3}M$ ions at all concentration increased the prooxidant activity on the degradation of capsanthin in oleoresin state. 5. EDTA showed a strong antioxidation the stability of capsanthin in oleoresin state.
The purpose of this study was to find out women's need and level of knowledge about episiotomy, pain and discomfort related to episiotomy on a cross-sectional survey design. The subjects were 102 postpartal women agreed on oral consent. 34 postpartal women admitted at obstetric ward of H university hospital, 34 postpartal women admitted at 2 Sanhujoriwons, and 34 women within one year afterbirth. They were selected in Seoul, Korea. Data were collected from July, 1 to September 30, 2000, by a structured questionnaire. The instrument used for this study was a questionaire consisted of 5 items of general characteristics, 12 items of obstetric characteristics, 10 items of level of knowledge (Chronbach $\alpha$ .8176), 8 items of need of education(Chronbach $\alpha$ .8836), 3 items of pain (Chronbach $\alpha$ .9252), and 3 items of discomfort (Chronbach $\alpha$ .8092). The data were analyzed by the SPSS/PC+ program using t-test, ANOVA and Scheffe test as a post hoc and Pearson Correlation Coefficient. The results of the study were as follows; 1. 63.2% of respondents had right answer on 6-8 items among 10 items. Only 4.4% of women got right answer on 10 items all. 2. The need of education was high(4.45%) on all items and the range of score was $4.25{\sim}4.64$. 3. The strength of pain was the highest within one week afterbirth(5.93/10) and became lower in 8-14 days afterbirth(2.55). And after 15days of postpartum, the pain level became to the lowest level(1.08). However, pain was delayed until more than one month afterbirth. 4. The level of discomfort was the highest one week afterbirth(6.88/10) and became lower in 8-14 days afterbirth(4.20). And after 15days of postpartum, the discomfort level became to the lowest level(2.47). Universally, the degree of discomfort was higher than pain. 5. There was a strong positive correlation between discomforts and pain ($r=.752^{**}$) and weak positive correlation between discomforts and the level of educational need($r=.308^*$). In conclusion, women have a right to choose whether she will have episiotomy or not according to her decision making based on the comprehensive knowledge of episiotomy before they get episiotomy with consent process and explanation in detail. Women health care providers like nurses have a responsibility to do conscious raising and empowerment for women so that they could lead themselves to choose given medical treatments for women's health and wellbeing and the quality of life in her life cycle.
Panax ginseng seedlings were grown at various temperature regimes from 15 to $30^{\circ}C$ for 19 days under dark and the linear relationship between various regrowth efficiencies and thermal stress indices, cumulative superoptimum temperatures corrected with factors. Gross growth efficiency(shoot weight l root weight loss) was 37.5 % at the optimum temperature $15^{\circ}C$/$15^{\circ}C$, and 12.3% at the highest temperature, $30^{\circ}C$/$30^{\circ}C$ while net growth efficiency (shoot weight + Sm)l(root loss-Rm), which corrected by maintenance respiration for shoot(Sm) and root(Rm) was 39.6% and 16.7 at optimum and highest temperature respectively. All growth efficiencies showed negative correlations (p = 0.001) with all thermal stress indices and negative(p = 0.001) with shoot growth(St). When growth temperature difference in a day was nil or above $15^{\circ}C$ growth efficiency decreased greatly. Thermal stress indices showed negative correlation with root dry matter loss(RDL) but positive with Rm. St showed positive correlation with RDL. Thermal stress appeared to inhibit substrate supply for shoot growth resulting in the extremely low growth efficiency comparing with other crops that seems to be main rate limiting factor of slow growth, Thus it is necessary that growth efficiency and thermal stress must be elucidated in terms of metabolic pathway.
This study of nurse educator's attitudes which found aspects of professional nursing was carried out from September 10 to 30, 1977. Subjects were 205 respondents from a total population of 314 nurse educators from the level of instructors to professors in all the diploma (post high school 3 year), professional junior college (3 year level) and university (4 year) nursing schools in Korea. Specific objectives were to determine their attitudes about the 1. social position of nursing as a profession, 2. nurses attitudes towards their word, 3. factors influencing the development of nursing, 4. the future of nursing, 5. nursing educational problems, 6. their own educational position's intrinsic job satisfaction and 7. their salary and benefits. The instrument used was a questionnaire developed from consultations with nursing educators and sociologists, and based on earlier. worts by Burke (1976), Mason (1974) and Hong 1969. Data were analysis by computer using one-way analysis. Statistically significant findings included the following; 1. Responses were positive toward all seven aspects of professional nursing. 2. Compared to diploma nursing school staff whose responses were positive, professional and university school faculty response toward the social position of nursing were neutral. 3. Faculty with clinical experience of 10 to 19 years were most positive in their responses about nurses' attitudes towards their work. In all three types of schools, in comparison to professors, associate professors' responses were more positive about nurses' attitudes toward their work. Faculty with longer clinical experience expressed high agreement with statements about factors which influence the development of nursing. Without any differences between school, all faculty had positive attitudes towards the future of nursing, the younger the staff member, the more positive were the responses. 4. faculty in diploma schools and those with 10 to 19 years clinical experience expressed high agreement with statement about nursing educational problems, 6. their own educational position's intrinsic job satisfaction and 7. their salary and benefits. Type I, II, III are regarded as "true" joint receptors, type IV is considered a class of pain receptor. Type I, II and III mechanoreceptors, via static and dynamic input, signal joint position, intraarticular pressure changes, and the direction, amplitude, and velocity of joint movements. Type I mechanoreceptor subserve both static and dynamic physiologic functions. Type I are found primarily in the stratum fibrosum of the joint capsule and ligaments. Type I receptors have a low threshold for activation and are allow to adapt to changes altering their firing frequency. Type II receptors have a low threshold for activation. These dynamic receptors respond to joint movement. Type II receptors are thus termed rapidly adapting. Type II joint receptors are located at the junction of the synovial membrane and fibrosum of the joint capsule and intraarticular and extraarticular fat pads. Type III receptors have been found in collateral ligaments of the joints of the extremities. Morphologically similar to Golgi tendon organ. These dynamic receptors have a high threshold to stimulation and are slowly adating. Type IV receptors possess free nerve ending that have been found in joint capsule and fat pads. They are not normally active, but respond to extreme mechanical deformation of the joint as well as to direct chemical or mechanical irritation. Small amplitude oscillatory and distraction movements(joint mobilization) techniques are used to stimulate the mechanoreceptors that may inhibit the transmission of nociceptors stimuli at the spinal cord or brain stem levels.
The purpose of this study was to compare the changes of retentive force in different stud attachment systems for implant retained overdenture. Two commercially available attachments with different retentive forces were investigated: Kerator (pink, blue, red) and O-ring (orange, red). Two implant fixtures were vertically embedded in base mountings. Five pairs of each attachment were evaluated. A universal testing machine was used to evaluate the retentive force of two attachments during wear simulation. Surface characteristics of each attachment system were evaluated with scanning electron microscopy. Five pairs of each attachment were evaluated. Kerator pink showed the highest initial retention. After 2,500 cycles of wear-simulation, Kerator pink noted the largest decrease in retention. According to results of surface analysis, Worn surfaces were obtained in matrices and patrices. Heavy wears were observed in matrices. After 2 year-wear simulation, most attachments exhibited retention loss. Attachments using different kind of material exhibited dissimilar surface alterations.
The purpose of this study was to examine whether there was a difference in the recognition and teaching strategies for the young child's behavioral problems according to teachers' socio-demographic variables and ego-resiliency level by analyzing survey responses from 238 teachers of 3, 4, and 5-year-old children. This study found that the group of teachers with the education level of junior college graduation or higher showed higher degree of recognition of children's behavioral problems than the group of teachers with a lower level of education. And the group of teachers at kindergartens showed a higher degree of recognition of children's behavioral problems than the group of teachers at day care centers. Regarding the difference according to the level of ego-resiliency, the group of higher ego-resiliency showed higher degree of recognition of children's behavioral problems than the group of lower ego-resiliency. In terms of teachers' teaching strategies for the behavioral problems, differences were recognized at sub-categories. To explain, differences were recognized in accordance with the teachers' age and career as well as their education level and work place; the higher the teachers' age, career, and education the more often they used the positive prevention strategy I. And teachers at kindergartens resorted to the negative response strategies more often than those at day care centers. Finally, the teaching strategies for the behavioral problems according to the teachers' ego-resiliency, group differences were seen in all the sub categories. The result of this study suggested that the need to develop and apply such programs for pre-service teachers and for teacher reeducation reflect those variables.
