Tics are sudden, painless, nonrhythmic behaviors that are either motor or vocal. As to DSM- VI diagnostic criteria, chronic tic disorder is either single or multiple motor or phonic tics, but not both, which are present for more than a year. In this case, a male patient was diagnosed tics disorder at 8 years old. He has suffered for 15 years and his symptom was simple motor tics of neck, both arms and both legs, not vocal tics. So we diagnosed him as the chronic tic disorder. The severity score headache was assessed using the Visual Analog Scales. The severity score tics was assessed at baseline using the Yale Global Tic Severity Scale (YGTSS) and we compared score of before with after treatment. We treated him with oriental medication( herbal medicine, acupuncture, cry cupping) and progressive muscle relaxation. After this treatment, chronic insomnia and extreme headache were disappeard and the symptoms of tics were mildly decreased.

Objective : It is a presentation of theoretical, clinical. historical foundation about using biofeedback in oriental medicine. Methods : We generalize definition, explanation, history and clinical application of biofeedback and study community with and clinical practice in oriental medical theory, referring to The neurofeedback book-An introduction to Basic Concepts in Applied Psychophysiology published by Michacl Thompson & Lynda Thompson Results : We acquire possibilities of application in oriental medicine as follows. 1. It is a view of treatment for the whole man not separating body and mind. 2. It make much of yin-ping-yang-bi(陰平陽秘) and spontaneous cure in the human body. 3. It make much of a curer's mental condition through dao(道). 4. It make much of a breathing corresponding to nature. 5. We make use of it in diagnosis and evaluation of disease. 6. It is psychologic treatment of self-leading. Conclusions : Biofeedback is expected that usefully applied to oriental psychotherapy of Kyungja-pyungji therapy(驚者平之療法). Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung therapy(五志相勝療法), Qigong therapy(氣功療法), Autogenic relaxation Training(自律弛緩療法) basing on oriental medical theory not separating body and mind.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze and compare heart rate variability(HRV) of patient of twenties and thirties diagnosed as Kiwooljeung with healthy controls'. Methods : We measured HRV of 35 patient(20 to 39 years old, male 14, female 11) diagnosed as Kiwooljeung and 40 healthy controls(male 24, female 16). HRV was measured by SA-3000P(Medicore, Korea) for 5 minutes after 5 minutes resting. Results : 1. In time domain analysis, Mean pulse rate(PRT) in Kiwooljeung group was higher than healthy controls. Standard deviation of all normal N-N intervals (SDNN) in Kiwooljeung group was lower and the results of twenties and thirties were same. 2. In frequency domain analysis, total power(TP), very low frequency(VLF), low frequency(LF), high frequency(HF), Ln TP, Ln VLF, Ln LF, Ln HF in Kiwooljeung group were lower than healthy controls but LF/HF ratio was higher than healthy controls. 3. Comparing gender in Kiwooljeung group, LF/HF ratio in male was higher than female. Conclusions : This study suggests lower activity and imbalance of cardiac autonomous nervous system in Kiwooljeung with the age group between twenties and thirties.

Objectives : This study aimed investigation of clinical development to child neuropsychiatry through the oriental western medical approach of child neuropsychiatric disorders Methods : As DSM-IV and ICD-10 set a standard for clinical expression. Objectives : The Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam has been used in traditional oriental medicine to treat a variety of mental disorders including anxiety and depression. The purpose of present study is to observe the changes which take place in the body in stressful situations and to compare the anti-depressive, anxiolytic and anti-stress effect of Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam in different doses. Methods : This study was performed to evaluate the effects of Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam in the immobilization stress model in rats. Twenty-five rats were divided into 5 groups of 5: control, stress, low dose administration (75 mg/kg), medium dose administration (150 mg/kg) and high dose administration (225 mg/kg). The four groups other than the control group were placed in an immobilization stress test, and distilled water (control) or Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam extract was administration orally for 2 weeks. After treatment, the despair and anxiety behavior of rats were measured by open field test, forced swimming test, weight gain, contents of 5-HT in raphe nucleus and adrenal gland weight. Results & Conclusions : As a result of evaluation by measuring five aspects, FST, OFT, weight gain, 5-HT contents and adrenal gland weight, Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam has significant antidepressant, anxiolytic, anti-stress effects.

In many aspects, autogenic training was similar to qigong, yoga and Zen applied in the psychotherapy of oriental medicine. And AT and oriental psychotherapy were much alike in methods in the view of composed of systematic training. If we wanted to get more available effects at AT, we needed to attach the qigong's concepts of control mind, posture, and respiration. Therefore, oriental psychotherapy like qigong and AT were useful methods for treat psychosomatic and stress-related disease.

This study is designed to assess the effect of hypnosis on the pain disorder patient. We treated a patient by using hypnosis as well as traditional oriental therapy-acupuncture, herbal medicine, Chu-Na therapy. We divide the pain into four parts and then we checked the intensities of them comparing with those of the first treatment. The pain worsened by psychic factor was decreased after treatment. Especially, after hypnosis, the intensity of the pain is highly changed. Psychotherapy in oriental medicine can be helpful to treat patients who have psychic and physical disorders.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is about oriental medicine's treatment and approach method of conversion disorder(jungkijeung) Methods: We observed the treatment effectiveness of herb-med, acupunture, physical therapy about conversion disorder(jungkijeung) Result and Conclusions: We try to present the possibility of the approach method about conversion disorder. 1. We should treat conversion disorder(jungkijeung) distinguished Gi deficiency(氣虛) between vigorous gi(氣寶) 2. The acupunture treatment of conversion disorder(jungkijeung) is efficient about all sorts symptoms and pain 3. Dyscinesia's sequela due to conversion disorder(jungkijeung) is possible to be protracted 4. It is important to prevent sick role, and for this, to use physical therapy is efficient about dyscinesia's patient due to conversion disorder(jungkijeung)

Wi syndrome is the syndrome that reveals muscle relaxation without contraction and muscle relaxation occurs in the low or upper limb, in severe case leads to death. We experienced a 80year-old woman who had a Wi syndrome, and treated by the way of reinforcing weakness of the spleen and stomach(脾胃虛弱). After being treated, the patient showed that symptoms (gait disturbance, ptosis, dysphonia) was improved. This result suggests that oriental medical treatment has good effect on Wi syndrome.

This report present on a case of common peroneal nerve palsy effectively treated with oriental medical therapy. Common peroneal nerve palsy caused by compression of nerve, general illness(diabetes mellitus) etc. It occur foot drop, disorder of ankle dorsi-flexor and eversion, disorder of foot sensory. If nerve palsy is progressed, muscle atropy is occurred. This patient fall foot drop before two month ago without reason. He is diagnosed as peroneal nerve palsy by brain MRI, EMG and doctor's physical examination. This patient effectively treated by oriental medical therapy. Oriental medical therapy is herb medicine(kamisamul-tang), acupuncture(S36, S38, S40, S41, G34, G39, G40, G41, LIV3, LIV4, K3, B60), Electro-acupuncture, bee venom acupuncture, moxibustion, electro physical therapy(EST, SSP). Time of therapy is two months and sequela is nothing.
