  • A selection experiment with Romney Marsh sheep was used to evaluate correlated responses to selection. The selected flock was formed in 1979 by the Romney Group Breeders where selection was for prolificacy, defined as the number of live lambs born per ewe joined per year and a randomly selected control flock was established in 1982. Selection for prolificacy resulted in (i) increased ewe fertility, (ii) increased ewe ovulation rate, (iii) increased ewe litter size, (iv) decreased ewe body weight, (v) decreased lamb birth weight and (vi) decreased lamb 8-week weight. The rates of correlated responses per year respectively for ewe fertility, ewe ovulation rate, ewe litter size, ewe body weight, lamb birth weight and lamb 8-week weight were 0.033(0.002), 0.043(0.016), 0.019(0.005), -0.017(0.066), -0.055(0.025) and -0.150(0.057).

  • A selection experiment with Romney Marsh sheep was used to evaluate direct responses to selection. Two flocks were maintained; a) the selection line formed in 1979 by the Romney Group Breeders to select for high prolificacy, defined as the number of live lambs born per ewe joined per year and b) a control line, established in 1982, where flock replacements were chosen at random. Predicted responses per year of birth female group and per year respectively were 0.033 and 0.027 live lambs. The rate of predicted response per year was within the theoretical expected range from 0.01 to 0.03 of the mean. The rates of realized response in prolificacy per year of birth female group and per year respectively were 0.026 and 0.021. These estimates of realized responses represented between 0.01 and 0.02 of the control line mean per year.

  • The Clonal Selection Algorithm (CSA) is an algorithm inspired by the human immune system mechanism. In CSA, several parameters needs to be optimized by large amount of sensitivity analysis for the optimal results. They limit the accuracy of the results due to the uncertainty and subjectivity. Adaptive Clonal Selection (ACS), a modified version of CSA, is developed as an algorithm without controls by pre-defined parameters in terms of selection process and mutation strength. In this paper, we discuss the ACS in detail and present its implementation in construction site utilization planning (CSUP). When applied to a developed model published in research literature, it proves that the ACS are capable of searching the optimal layout of temporary facilities on construction site based on the result of objective function, especially when the parameterization process is considered. Although the ACS still needs some improvements, obtaining a promising result when working on a same case study computed by Genetic Algorithm and Electimze algorithm prove its potential in solving more complex construction optimization problems in the future.

  • The comparative evaluation is the most effective method for site selection because the selection of waste treatment facility is to determine the optimum site out of limited candidate sites. This study adopted the ordinal scale evaluation, one of methods of comparative evaluation. The ordinal scale evaluation aims to determine the investigating items referring to the character of sites, to determine the importance factors for investigating items, and to determine the optimum site according to the quantitative evaluation. This study has focussed on reflecting the opinion of residents to the maximum extent with a weight on social and economic aspects, considering the state of confrontation against each other between the autonomous government organization and local residents, which is being emerged as a social issue relating to the evaluation rating on each item of site selection of an optimum site. Therefore, rational, and clear validity investigations and proper reduction of both time and expenses in site selection as well through this a study.

  • This paper deals with the improvement of cluster head selection method in L-SEP for heterogeneous nodes among hierarchical routing protocols of wireless sensor network. Wireless sensor networks are classified into homogeneous and heterogeneous network. In heterogeneous network, SEP, L-SEP are mainly used because cluster head selection probability is different depending on node type. But, since protocol based on SEP has different cluster head selection probabilities depending on the node type, clusters that transmit data inefficiently can be formed. to improve this, it is necessary to select the cluster head that minimizes the transmission distance of member node and the cluster head. Therefore, we propose a protocol that improve the cluster head selection method.

  • In this paper, we propose combined relay selection and cooperative beamforming schemes for physical layer security. Generally, high operational complexity is required for cooperative beamforming withmultiple relays because of the required information exchange and synchronization among the relays. On the other hand, while it is desirable to reduce the number of relays participating in cooperative beamforming because of the associated complexity problem, doing so may degrade the coding gain of cooperative beamforming. Hence, we propose combined relay selection and cooperative beamforming schemes, where only two of the available relays are selected for beamforming and data transmission. The proposed schemes introduce a selection gain which partially compensates for the decrease in coding gain due to limiting the number of participating relays to two. Both the cases where full and only partial channel state information are available for relay selection and cooperative beamforming are considered. Analytical and simulation results for the proposed schemes show improved secrecy capacities compared to existing physical layer security schemes employing cooperative relays.

  • Material selection is a complex problem in the design and development of products for diverse engineering applications. This paper is aimed to present a fuzzy decision making approach to deal with the material selection in engineering design problems. A fuzzy multi criteria decision-making model is proposed for solving the material selection problem. The proposed model makes use of fuzzy TOPSIS (Technique for Order reference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) with trapezoidal numbers for evaluating the criteria and ranking the alternatives. And result is compared with fuzzy VIKOR (VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje in Serbian, means Multi criteria Optimisation and Compromise Solution) which is proposed by Jeya Girubha and Vinodh [2012]. The present paper is aimed to also improve literature of fuzzy decision making for material selection problem.

  • In this work, an efficient transmit antenna selection approach for the quadrature spatial modulation (QSM) systems is proposed. The conventional Euclidean distance antenna selection (EDAS)-based schemes in QSM have too high computational complexity for practical use. The proposed antenna selection algorithm is based on approximation of the EDAS decision metric employed for QSM. The elimination of imaginary parts in the decision metric enables decoupling of the approximated decision metric, which enormously reduces the complexity. The proposed method is also evaluated via simulations in terms of symbol error rate (SER) performance and compared with the conventional EDAS methods in QSM systems.

  • This paper presents the novel feature selection method for Emotion Recognition, which may include a lot of original features. Specially, the emotion recognition in this paper treated speech signal with emotion. The feature selection has some benefits on the pattern recognition performance and 'the curse of dimension'. Thus, We implemented a simulator called 'IFS' and those result was applied to a emotion recognition system(ERS), which was also implemented for this research. Our novel feature selection method was basically affected by Reinforcement Learning and since it needs responses from human user, it is called 'Interactive feature Selection'. From performing the IFS, we could get 3 best features and applied to ERS. Comparing those results with randomly selected feature set, The 3 best features were better than the randomly selected feature set.
