In this paper, we deal with the kinematic and dynamic modeling of hybrid robotic systems that are constructed by combination of parallel and serial modules or series of parallel modules. Previously, open-tree structure has been employed for dynamic modeling of hybrid robotic systems. Though this method is generally used, however, it requires expensive computation as the size of the system increases. Therefore, we propose an efficient dynamic modeling methodology for hybrid robotic systems. Initially, the dynamic model for the proximal module is obtained with respect to the independent joint coordinates. Then, in order to represent the operational dynamics of the proximal module, we model virtual joints attached at the top platform of the proximal module. The dynamic motion of the next module exerts dynamic forces to the virtual joints, which in fact is equivalent to the reaction forces exerted on the platform of the lower module by the dynamics of the upper module. Then, the dynamic forces at the virtual joints are distributed to the independent joints of the proximal module. For multiple modules, this scheme can be constructed as a recursive dynamic formulation, which results in reduction of the complexness of the open-tree structure method for modeling of hybrid robotic systems. Simulation for inverse dynamics is performed to validate the proposed modeling algorithm.

A laboratory study was performed to evaluate the effects of an aid(i.e. stick) on joint loadings. Six healthy young participants were recruited from Virginia Tech student population. Each participant has performed three normal walking and three stick walking trials. Normalized and integrated, ground reaction forces(GRFs) and joint moments were measured at ankle, knee, and hip joints from kinematic and kinetic data. The result suggests that stick walking significantly reduces vertical ground reaction force and joint moments at ankle and knee compared to normal walking.

This research deals with posture optimization for humanoid robot against external forces using genetic algorithm and neural network. When the robot takes a motion to push an object, the torque of each joint is generated by reaction force at the palm. This study aims to optimize the posture of the humanoid robot that will change this torque. This study finds an optimized posture using a genetic algorithm such that torques are evenly distributed over the all joints. Then, a number of different optimized postures are generated from various the reaction forces at the palm. The data is to be used as training data of MLP(Multi-Layer Perceptron) neural network with BP(Back Propagation) learning algorithm. Humanoid robot can find the optimal posture at different reaction forces in real time using the trained neural network include non-training data.
This paper discusses the advantages of using Fourier-based periodic excitation and of combining internal and external models in dynamic robot parameter identification. Internal models relate the joint torques or forces with the motion of the robot; external models relate the reaction forces and torques on the bedplate with the motion data. This combined model allows to combine joint torque/force and reaction torque/force measurements in one parameter estimation scheme. This combined model estimation will yield more accurate parameter estimates, and consequently better predictions of actuator torque, which is shown by means of a simulated experiment on a CRS A465 industrial robot.

Objective : This study was conducted with an aim to use it as basic data for developing assistive devices, such as insoles that can suppress the progress of degenerative diseases and strategies, to improve early degenerative diseases by assessing walking characteristics of farm workers who were classified as KL-grade in the perspective of motor mechanics. Method : 38 male and female adults who complained of knee joint pain for more than six months were selected, and they were classified according to KL-grade. KL-grade was assessed by an orthopaedic specialist and an occupational environment health specialist. Filming equipment (FX-1, CASIO, Japan) and a ground reaction force system (AMTI OR6, AMTI, USA) were used to identify ground reaction force characteristics, and WOMAC was used for a pain rating scale. Results : There was a difference between the right and left side (axis-X) according to KL-grade, and when the grade was higher, the internal ground reaction force was also higher. Changes in COP were not affected by KL-grade of the knee joint, but it tended to increase as the grade increased. There were differences in the time required for limb support while walking according to the grades, and when the grade was higher, walking was more inefficient with long braking force and short propulsion forces. Also, pain rating scale, the right and left side, and COP changes while in support phase were related. Conclusion : There was a partial, statically significant difference in KL-grade and ground reaction force occurring during the support phase, and there were differences in ground reaction forces according to the grades of degenerative arthritis in the knee joint, indicating that this study is worthy as basic data for future studies.

Understanding the characteristics of amputee gait is key in developing more advanced prostheses. The aim of this study was to quantitatively analyze a stair-climbing task for transfemoral amputees with a prosthesis and to predict the muscle forces and joint moments at musculoskeletal joints using a dynamic analysis. A three-dimensional musculoskeletal model of the lower extremities was constructed from a gait analysis using transformation software for two transfemoral amputees and ten healthy people. The measured ground reaction forces and kinematical data of each joint from the gait analysis were used as input data for an inverse dynamic analysis. Dynamic analyses of an transfemoral amputee climbing stairs were performed using musculoskeletal models. The results showed that the summed muscle forces of the hip extensor of an amputated leg were greater than those of a sound leg. The opposite was true at the hip abductor and knee flexor of an amputated leg. We also found that higher moments at the hip and knee joints of the sound leg were required to overcome the flexion moment caused by the body weight and amputated leg. Dynamic analyses using musculoskeletal models may be a useful means to predict muscle forces and joint moments for specific motion tasks related to rehabilitation therapy.

It is important to understand the characteristics of amputee gait to develop more advanced prostheses. The aim of this study was quantitatively to analyze the stair climbing task for the above-knee amputee with a prosthesis and to predict muscle forces and joint moments at musculoskeletal joints by dynamic analysis. The three-dimensional musculoskeletal model of lower extremities was constructed by gait analysis and transformation software for one above-knee amputee and ten healthy people. The measured ground reaction forces and kinematical data of each joint by gait analysis were used as input data during inverse dynamic analysis. Lastly, dynamic analysis of above-knee amputee during stair climbing were performed using musculoskeletal models. The results showed that summed muscle farces of hip extensor of amputated leg were greater than those of sound leg but the opposite results were revealed at hip abductor and knee flexor of amputated leg. We could also find that the higher moments at hip and knee joint of sound leg were needed to overcome the flexion moment caused by body weight and amputated leg. In conclusion, dynamic analysis using musculoskeletal models may be a useful mean to predict muscle forces and joint moments for specific motion tasks related to rehacilitation therapy..

Analysis of actuating forces and joint reaction forces are essential to determine the capacity of actuators, to control the mechanical system and to design its components. This paper presents an algorithm that calculates actuating forces(or torques), depending on the various types of driving constraints, in order to produce a given system motion in the joint coordinate space. The joint coordinates are used as the generalized coordinates of a kinematic system. System equations of motion and constraint acceleration equations are transformed from the Cartesian coordinate space to the joint coordinate space using the velocity transformation method. A numerical example is carried out to verify the algorithm proposed.
Objectives : We find that the reaction force on the elbow joint during elbow flexion, extension with and without an object in the hand can be calculated the equations of motion that the sum of the torque and the sum of the force acting on the elbow joint must be zero and (moment of inertia x angular acceleration) and (mass x acceleration). Methods : we have calculated the equations of motion (${\Sigma}F=0$, ${\Sigma}{\tau}=0$, ${\Sigma}F=ma$, ${\Sigma}{\tau}=Ia$) to investigate the reaction force on the elbow joint during elbow flexion, extension by means of the simplified free-body technique for coplanar forces. Results : we found that the reaction force on the elbow joint during elbow flexion, extention as constant acceleration motion is more than constant velocity, static motion. Also, we found that the relation between during flexion and during extension like this ; $J_{flexion}$ < $J_{extension}$.
Impact force to a body during walking depends on walking speed, walking steps, the condition of the floors and shoes, and weight. The ground reaction force and the foot pressure can be measured instantaneous force easily, but it's difficult to find out the amount of transferring forces to the body. On the other hand, the acceleration has an advantage for analyzing the amount of transferring forces. However, most of studies about impact forces to the ground reaction during exercise have been limited to analyze instantaneous forces. The important thing is to evaluate characters and the amount of the impact force rather than the magnitude. Therefore, this study analyze the impact force using 3 axis acceleration in three dimensions (x; anterior-posterior, y; left-right and z; longitudinal axis) using three axis acceleration. As working speed increased, impact forces increased significantly. Impact forces on x axis and z axis are higher at lower limb than that of upper limb. However, impact force at the knee is higher than that of other parts on y axis regardless of walking speed significantly. In addition, relations of the impact forces as interaction of experiment factors as well as effect of each factor are analyzed.
