Family Stresses, Coping Strategy and Family Strengths in Dual-Income Teachers (맞벌이교사들이 가족스트레스, 대처전략 및 가족건강성)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the family stresses and its managing strategy to cope with the stresses, and family strengths in dual-income teachers. The subjects of this study were 289 dual-income teachers in the Gyeongnam Area, Korea. The major findings obtained from this study are summarized as follows: 1) The degree of family stresses in dual-income teachers was 2.90 on a scale of 0-5.0. The most stressful aspect for the dual-income teachers came from the role of housework. 2) The degree of coping strategy in dual-income teachers was 3.48, on a scale of 0-5.0. Among the strategies, the 'cognitive restructuring' shows the first. 3) The degree of family strengths of dual-income teachers was 3.88 on a scale 0-5.0. The significant variables were economic level, self-esteem, job satisfaction, and marital satisfaction in dual-income teachers. 4) The most effective variable of family strengths in dual-income teachers was coping strategy.

A Study on Verbal Abuse Experience and Coping Strategies of Dental Hygienist (임상 치과위생사의 언어폭력 경험 및 대처방안)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide a basic data for developing and solutions to prevent verbal abuse and to determine the actual overall verbal abuse experience of dental hygienist. Participants were 289 dental hygienists who work in dental hospitals and clinics. The results of this study, 177 dental hygienists experienced verbal abuse. Perpetrators of verbal abuse experience became patient (67.9%), dentist (21.1%). The most common reason for verbal abuse were 'anger about the dental service' (17.0%), 'anger about physical and emotional suffering' (14.1%), 'consider the dental hygienists as subordinate not as colleague or practitioner' (12.6%). The types of verbal abuse were 'taking down' (21.7%), 'yelling' (16.3%), 'being sarcastic' (11.3%). The types of coping with verbal abuse were many aspects of passive coping in order of 'suppress' (12.3%), 'ignore' (8.2%). The result of verbal abuse experience according to working characteristics was significant different to clinical career, main duty, position. The result of self-esteem and job satisfaction according to verbal abuse experience, dental hygienist who had experienced verbal abuse was lower in job satisfaction. Therefore, it should be recognized that experience of verbal abuse in dental hygienist was serious and need to develop prevention programs and research.

The Organization Commitment and Perception of Human Resource Management by Employment Types of School Foodservice Employees (학교급식 직원의 고용유형에 따른 인적 자원 관리 활동에 대한 인식과 조직 몰입도)

  • As the foodservice industry is labor intensive, the efficient management of human resources is an essential element for improving operational efficiency. This study was designed to investigate the performance level of human resource management in self-operated school foodservices and to examine the relationship between human resource management, organizational commitment, and productivity. Whether these factors rated differently by employment and job types was also examined. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 60 dieticians and 240 cooks in Seongnam and Yongin. Frequency analysis, factor analysis, the t-test and multiple regression analysis were tested using Minitab. Human resource management practices rated highly in the dimension of employee training (3.51), followed by working environment (3.39), and turnover management (3.37). In contrast, reward management (1.73) and working condition (1.56) received the lowest score. Organizational commitment scored 3.65 points, and showed that dedication (3.82) was the highest score; however, self-esteem (3.50) was the lowest score. For human resource management, there were significant differences between employment types as full time workers (3.85) rated management more highly than part-time worker (3.43). Overall productivity was fairly high, especially in high school foodservices. Only the performance appraisal had an influence on organizational commitment (${\beta}$=0.292, P<0.05). Productivity was positively correlated with human resource management (r=0.432, P<0.001) and organizational commitment (r=0.36, P<0.01). In conclusion, school foodservices need to establish objective performance standards, and increase employee morale by enhancing reward systems and working conditions. In particular, irregular employees require training with job performance standards and given a proper reward program, depending on their performance, to improve organizational commitment.

A Study on the Effects of the Antipoverty Policy in Local Community : Focusing on the Self-Support System In Korea (지역사회 탈빈곤 정책의 효과 분석 : 경남, 전북지역 자활후견기관 운영의 성과 및 한계 분석과 개선방안의 모색)

  • The Self-Support Program was introduced as an antipoverty policy at 2002 year in Korea. But, the Self-Support Program's negative or positive effects have been debated from diverse perspectives to the present. Thus, in this paper, we analyzed the effects of the Self-Support Program using the survey data from program participants. Even though the effects of Workfare Programs can be evaluated by various indicators(ex. income, employment status, poverty status, etc.), in our analysis the effects of the Self-Support Program are evaluated by participants' self-reliant attitudes and behaviors. Major findings are as follows. First, we found that some kinds of self-reliant attitudes(ex. work commitment, self-esteem, etc.) were build up through participation on the Self-Support program, but some kinds of self-reliant factors(job competence and skill, self-sufficiency prospect, etc.) which are more relevant to the self-sufficiency were not build up thorough it. Second, we found the positive effects of the program among people who are females, olders, less educated, more healthy, and the participants who have acquired more certificate of qualifications. Third, we also found that self-support center's job training program, adequate task matching, agency climates and intra-networks influence on the positive effects of the Self-Support Program. These findings suggest that the Self-Support Program has not been successful up to now and it's reformations are required. It means that objectives of the Self-Support Program as an anti-poverty policy must be obvious and program contents must be diverse. And also program administration systems need to be reformed in oder to raise the effectiveness of the Self-Support Program.
