As a result of examining the effect on life satisfaction of emotional labor by art psychology counselors, surface behavior had a significant negative effect, while inner behavior also had a negative effect. Emotional exhaustion and a self-achievement decrease, which are sub-factors of job burnout for art psychology counselors, had a negative (-) effect on life satisfaction. • This study examined the impact of learning organization activities on burnout and the moderating effect of supervisor trust in a learning organization. The results of the study shows that among the activities of a learning organization, independent variables in this study, promoting inquiry and dialogue as well as encouraging collaboration and team learning affect burnout. In other words, the dedication of an organization to creating a culture in which various learning approaches are experimented through questioning and giving feedback as well as collaborative learning that can reinforce the effective use of team resources have an impact on reducing emotional exhaustion, which is considered to be at the core of burnout. Plus, these factors reduce impersonalization, which is activated to prevent further emotional exhaustion by dealing with customers, colleagues and jobs in a cold, negative and perfunctory way. In this study, the dimensions of promoting inquiry and dialogue as well as encouraging collaboration and team learning were found to reduce the decline in personal sense of achievement of an employee with a negative assessment of himself or herself derived from a lack of achievement in his or her job. Supervisor trust (integrity, benevolence and ability) had a moderating effect on the relationship between strategic learning leadership and impersonalization/emotional exhaustion. This suggests that the trust of supervisor helps mediate and moderate the emotional exhaustion and impersonalization of organizational members by encouraging leaders to drive change and take the organization to a new direction. The study has provided implications that communication plays an important role in reducing burnout in the learning context such as positive, appreciative inquiry and feedback analysis to identify strength, and that supervisor trust is critical in order to ensure strategic learning leadership exerts greater influence on the organization.

  • Developing our understanding of retail employee job satisfaction is important, especially given its impact in reducing employee turnover intentions and increasing employee job performance. While developing our understanding of job satisfaction is important, the vast majority of studies examine job satisfaction as a global or single-faceted construct. However, extant research provides evidence that to properly measure job satisfaction, multi-faceted scales are required (e.g. Churchill et al., 1974; Boles et al., 2007; Rutherford et al., 2009). Using the literature on multi-faceted job satisfaction, this study examines retail employees' satisfaction with supervision, job, company policy, promotion, pay, fellow workers, and customers. Specifically, emotional exhaustion, need for emotion, and personal traits (strong, independent, and warm) are examined as antecedents. This study finds that emotional exhaustion is negatively related to all seven facets of job satisfaction.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the levels of burnout experienced by Korean hospital nurses (N=198), and to identify predictors of their nursing outcomes such as job performance, work satisfaction, and productivity. Method: Hierarchical multiple regression was used to identify predictors of each nursing outcomes. Included predictors were nurses' general characteristics, work- related characteristics (role stress and perceived control), and burnout. Results: Korean nurses experienced higher levels of burnout compared to the cutoffs suggested by Maslach and Jackson (1986) and to those in the USA. For each nursing outcome, predictor variables explained 39% of the variance in role performance, 30% of the variance in work satisfaction, and 38% of variance in productivity. Higher personal accomplishment, lower role ambiguity, being staff nurses, and lower emotional exhaustion were related to higher job performance, and higher productivity. Lower role conflict and role ambiguity were also related to higher work satisfaction. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, managemental interventions for nurses to reduce their burnout experience are needed. Further study in this area is warranted.
