Objectives : The purpose of this study is to determine new source of Jisil(枳實). Methods : Find out the source of Jisil in the history of herbal medicine. Results : 1. The source of jisil(枳實) is known as the immature fruit of Poncirus trifoliata Rafinesqul(Rutaceae) in the Korean Pharmacopoeia Eight Edition, the dried young fruit of Citrus aurantium L. and its cultivars or Citrus sinensis Osbeck(Fam. Rutaceae) in Pharmacopeia of the people's republic of china(English edition 2000). 2. Until Song dynasty, Jisil is the pericarp of the ripe fruit of Poncirus trifoliata 3. From Myeong dynasty the source of jisil(枳實) turn to the immature fruit of C. wilsonii, C. junos, C. aurantiun var. amara Conclusions : The source of Jisil(枳實) is the ripe fruit of Poncirus trifoliata.

Objectives : The aim of this study is to investigate the needling depth of Hwangmun (BL51) and Jisil (BL52) retrospectively using an L-spine MRI. Methods : We measured the shortest distance from the skin to transversalis fascia at both sides of Hwangmun and Jisil, and analyzed the difference between male and female using a student t-test, and between the left and right sides with a paired t-test. Results : In the case of males, the average depth of left Hwangmun was $48.24{\pm}10.16mm$, and that of right was $47.23{\pm}9.59mm$ ; left Jisil was $56.91{\pm}9.00mm$ and right was $55.74{\pm}8.75mm$. In the case of females, the average depth of left Hwangmun was $42.26{\pm}9.29mm$, and that of right was $41.63{\pm}9.32mm$ ; left Jisil was $49.21{\pm}10.77mm$ and right was $48.41{\pm}11.38mm$. The depth of male insertion was deeper than that of female in Jisil, but there was no significant difference according to gender in Hwangmun. Conclusion : For males, the needling depth of left Hwangmun is 37.21 ~ 68.23 mm and right is 36.91 ~ 70.50 mm, while left Jisil is 42.97 ~ 70.84 mm and right is 43.75 ~ 72.00 mm. For females, the needling depth of left Hwangmun is 26.80 ~ 68.28 mm and right is 25.70 ~ 65.59 mm, while left Jisil is 30.94 ~ 79.06 mm and right is 28.13 ~ 77.27 mm.

본 연구는 지실추출물과 나린진의 햇빛으로부터 피부 보호 및 주름개선에 대한 연구를 하였다. HR-1(무모쥐)에 햇빛을 조사하여 상피 두께의 변화와 진피의 90% 정도를 차지하는 콜라겐 섬유의 변화를 확인하였다, 콜라게나아제의 억제 효능도 주름에 중요하게 작용하므로 같이 확인하였다. 실험은 나린진과 지실추출물을 사용하여 효능을 검증하였다. 첫째: 지실과 나린진의 성분을 분석하였다. 둘째: DPPH로 항산화 능력을 확인하였다. 셋째: 콜라겐의 변화를 측정하였다. 연구 결과로 지실추출물 및 나린진이 피부 상피두께 억제와 피부의 콜라겐 두께가 상승하였고 콜라겐 분해 효소 억제 및 주름이 대조군에 비하여 감소되었으며 유의한 차이가 나타났다.

Cancer cachexia, characterized by weight loss and progressive tissue wasting, has been postulated to be mediated by cytokines. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Korean Traditional Medicine (KTM ; mokhyang, jisil, osooyu) mixture on food intake, blood cytokines level and blood nutrients status of the cachexia induced-mice. Thirty male Balb/c mice aged 6-8 weets were blocked into 3 groups that were Normal (no colon26 cells) Control (colon 26 cells) and KTM (colon26 cells + KTM extract mixture) group. In Control and KTM groups, murine adenocarcinoma colon 26 cells were injected subcutaneously to induce cachexia. KTM mice were given 200 ul KTM extract mixture (7%) per day. Half of each groups were sacrificed at the 14 th day to see serum cytokines & nutrients and the others were fed until almost of control group died to see life span. food intake and body weight were decreased significantly in cachexia induced groups. Tumor weight of KTM group was significantly lower than control group. Serum cytokines (IL-1$\beta$ and TNF-$\alpha$) level of cachexia induced groups were increased than those of normal group, and those of KTM group were significantly lower than the level of control group. Total serum protein and serum albumin were higher in KTM group than other groups. TG and fatty acid were lower in cachexia induced groups than normal group. HDL-cholesterol in serum was increased in KTM group. Effect of oral administration of KTM extract mixture on survival time of colon26 bearing mice showed extension of the life span. Overall, this study showed that KTM (mokhyang, jisil, osooyu) extract mixture inhibited the growth of cancer cell, changed the secretion of cytokines induced by colon26 adenocarcinoma in mice, and changed nutrition metabolism.

Effects of mahwang(Ephedrae herba) aqua-acupuncture at sinsoo (B-23)and Jisil(B-52)on adrenal cortical insufficiency were investigated in dexamethasone treated rats. Concentration of serum cortisol was decreased in dexamethasone treated rats. However, these values showed a tendency to increase in mahwang(Ephedrae herba) aqua-acupuncture groups. Concentration of serum total protein was increased in dexamethasone treated rats. However, these values were decreased by the mahwang(Ephedrae herba) aqua-acupuncture. The portion of neutrophils was decreased and the portion of lymphocytes and eosinophils were increased in dexamethasone treated rats. However, in mahwang(Ephedrae herba) aqua-acupuncture groups, the portion of neutrophils showed a tendency to increase and the portion of lymphocytes and eosinophils showed a tendency to decrease. In dexamethasone treated rats, the weight of adrenal glands were decreased, however these values were increased in mahwang(Ephedrae herba) aqua-acupuncture groups.

Overproduction of peroxynitrite ($ONOO^-$) causes a variety of disease such as atherosclerosis, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes mellitus or obesity. Peroxynitrite scavenging activities and HPLC analysis on the five Oriental medicinal drugs belonging to the genus Citrus, Aurantium or Poncirus (Rutaceae family) and HPLC analysis were taken to evaluate flavanone glycosides with peroxynitrite scavenging activity. The $IC_{50}s$ of the five crude drugs were shown as follows: Aurantii nobilis Pericarpium (Jinpi, 18.3 ${\mu}g$/ml), Citrii unshiu Pericarpium (Chungpi, 7.50${\mu}g$/ml), Citrii unshiu Semen (Gyulhaek, >50.0${\mu}g$/ml), Aurantii Fructus (Jigak, 18.3${\mu}g$/ml), and Poncirii Fructus (Jisil, >50.0${\mu}g$/ml) where Korean crude drug's names are noted in the parenthesis. Peroxynitrite scavenging effect of flavanones or their glycosides usually contained in Citrus species were observed as follows: hesperetin (1.89 ${\mu}g$/ml), naringenin (7.77 ${\mu}g$/ml), hesperidin (8.44 ${\mu}g$/ml), poncirin (>50.0 ${\mu}g$/ml)and ponciretin(>50.0 ${\mu}g$/ml). The activities of naringin and poncirin with ${\alpha}$-L-rhamnopyranosyl($1{\rightarrow}2$)-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranosyl moiety were weak. HPLC analytical data revealed that Jinpi (the peels of mature fruits of Citrus unshiu) and Chungpi (the peels of immature fruits of C. unshiu) had high quantities of hesperidin as the value of 142.1${\pm}$0.21 and 104.51${\pm}$1.10 mg/g dried weight, respectively. Poncirin was clearly detected in only Jisil and naringenin and naringin were not observed on the HPLC chromatogram of the five crude drugs.

목적: 경혈 지압에서 모든 혈의 가압 방향은 통상적으로 수직 방향이다. 그러나 지실혈(BL52)에서는 수직 방향이 배꼽 부위를 향하는지 몸통의 중심을 향하는지 명확하지 않다. 본 연구에서는 30명의 대상자의 BL52에 대한 지압의 방향에 따른 압통 역치를 측정하여 효과적인 지압 방향을 연구하는 것이었다. 방법: 대상자의 명문혈(GV4)을 중심으로 좌우 지실혈까지의 거리와 GV4와 배꼽까지의 거리를 측정하여 명문혈 좌우 지실혈이 배꼽을 지나는 타원을 이용하여 좌우 지실혈에서 배꼽 방향 및 몸통 중심 방향의 각도를 계산했다. BL52에 두 방향으로 가압하면서 대상자들이 통증을 느끼는 시점의 압력을 통증 역치로 하였다. 압통역치는 대상자의 좌우 BL52에서 3분 간격으로 3번씩 측정하였다. 결과: 대상자들의 좌우 BL52에서 측정된 압통 역치는 몸통 중심부를 향하여 가압할 때 상대적으로 유의하게 감소하였다(p < .05). BL52에서는가압방향이몸통의중심부를향할때압력에대해더예민한것으로나타났다. 결론: 주변보다 외부 자극에 더 예민한 경혈의 지압 요법에서, BL52에서는 몸통의 중심부를 향하도록 지압하는 것이 배꼽 방향으로 지압하는 것보다 효율적이라는 것을 시사한다.

The immature fruits of Poncirus trifoliata L. or Ponciri fructus (PF), well known as 'Jisil' in Korea, have been used against allergic diseases for generations, and still occupy an important place in traditional Oriental medicine. Anti-allergic effects of this fruit have been investigated in a few experimental models. Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is the principal immunoglobulin involved in immediate hypersensitivities and chronic allergic diseases. The effect of an aqueous extract of PF on in vivo and in vitro IgE production was investigated. PF dose-dependently inhibited the active systemic anaphylaxis and serum IgE production induced by immunization with ovalbumin, Bordetelia pertussis toxin and aluminum hydroxide gel. PF strongly inhibited interleukin 4 (IL-4)-dependent IgE production by lipopolysaccharide-stimulated murine whole spleen cells. In the case of U266 human IgE-bearing B cells, Ponciri fructus also showed an inhibitory effect on the IgE production. On the other hand, mast cell hyperplasia can be causally related with chronic inflammation. Stem cell factor (SCF), the ligand of the c-kit protooncogene product, is a major regulator and ohernoattractant of mast cells. Ponciri fiuctus (1 mg/mL) significantly inhibited the SCF-induced migration of rat peritoneal mast cells (RPMCs). RPMCs exposed to SCF (50 ng/mL) resulted in a drastic shape change with a polarized morphology while the cells exposed to Ponciri fructus (1 mg/mL) remained resting, with little or no shape alteration. The drastic morphological alteration and distribution of polymerized actin were blocked by pretreatment with Ponciri fructus. In addition, Ponciri fructus inhibited both TNF-alpha and IL-6 secretion from RPMCs stimulated with SCF. These results suggest that Ponciri fructus has an anti-allergic activity by inhibition of IgE production from B cells. These findings also provide evidence that Ponciri fructu inhibits chemotactic response and inflammatory cytokines secretion to SCF in mast cells.

In the oriental medicine, a mixture of herbs has been commonly used as important components to control allergic and inflammatory diseases. In the present study, we prepared a mixture of Dictamni Radicis Cortex(Baiksunpee), Houttuyniae Herba(Uhsungcho), and Aurantii Immaturus Fructus(Jisil) to examine its anti-allergic effects in activated mouse splenic cells and found that Mix-1 is involved in regulating levels of B cell activating factors (CD23 and CD11a), IL-1β, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α, and 1gE as well as HRF expression. It was observed that Mix-1 did not have cytotoxic effects on mLFC. Mix-1 showed inhibition of CD23 and CD11 alpaha expression in mouse B cells, and also decreased the production of IL-6, TNF-α, and 1gE. Both RT-PCR and ELISA analyses indicated that IL-6 and TNF alpha production were regulated at the gene expression level. In contrast, IL-10 mRNA and protein levels were increased in activated B cells by Mix-1 treatment. We also found that Mix-1 inhibited B cell proliferation and inhibited histamine releasing factor(HRF) expression, suggesting its inhibitory effect on histamine secretion. These data indicated that Mix-1 has an anti-allergic effect in activated macrophages and further suggest the possible application of Mix-1 as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of allergy-related diseases.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the interpretation of the Ondam-tang(Ondam-tang, here-in-after referred to as "ODT") prescription in order to obtain the evidence for clinical applications. Methods : We have analyzed the interpretation on the ODT prescription through translations and comparisons based on classic books about the oriental medical prescriptions. Result : 1. ODT was first mentioned in the Jiyangfang(集驗方) which was quoted in the Waitaimiyao (外臺秘要). After that, in book Sanyinjiyibingzhengfanglun(三因極一病證方論), Chen-yan(陳言) completed and recorded in a book organizing prescriptions of ODT now in frequent use. 2. The Banha(半夏) removes the dam(痰-phlegm) and relieves emesis. The Jinpee(陳皮) encourages strengths, and the Bokryoung composes oneself and produces the water. The Licorice(甘草) relieves people's mind, and the Ginger relieves gastrointestinal problems and relieves emesis. Juk-yeo(竹茹) abate of the fever of the Sangcho(上焦). Jisil(枳實) encourages strength, controlling Samcho(三焦) as releasing the congestion of energy. In these ways, numerous symptoms resulted from the imbalances of the Gallbladder(膽) are treated. 3. Meaning of "on(溫-warm)" in ODT regains the original characteristic of the Gallbladder(膽). 4. Treatment mechanism of ODT is 'cooling the Gallbladder(膽)' and 'remedies Samcho(三焦)' and 'eliminates dam(痰)' and 'cure Kiwool(氣鬱-which is kind of depressions) and Saengyen(生涎-which is kind of phlegm)' and 'removes a mismatch between Gallbladder(膽) and Stomache(胃)'. Conclusion : In this study, we have demonstrated various methodologies. This paper will be useful to the future researchers and clinicians to conduct a study on herbal medicines such as the ODT.
