iPlace : A Web-based Collaborative Work System Using Enterprise JavaBeans Technology (iPlace:EJB 기술을 이용한 웹 기반 협업시스템)

  • As collaborative works have been spread over the internet, the need for information systems providing virtual workspaces has grown rapidly. Through virtual workspaces, the members participating in those collaborative works share and exchange their information effectively. It is desirable that these systems can be extended according to various requests of users, providing reliable services. In this paper, we describe a group of components for supporting collaboration and the iPlace (internet workPlace) system developed with those components. The iPlace system provides effective sharing and reusing of information among the members of collaborative groups through personal workspaces-the private spaces on the Web for each user and shared workspaces-the shared spaces for each of those groups. In addition, implemented with EJB technology, it provides highly scalable and reliable services.

  • EJB(Enterprise JavaBeans) is the server-side component model and its purpose is to reduce the complexity of software development and to increase software reusability. Many concerns for development of EJB components have recently been raised. However, it is difficult to compose EJB components provided by third parties through the plug-and-play method. Therefore, the composition method by lego block styles is needed for EJB components. In this paper, we propose an approach to composition of EJB components using the C2 architectural style. In order to support EJB composition, we modified the general C2 architecture framework. We propose how to create EJB wrappers that can compose EJB components according to the C2 framework. Our approach also enables developers to create a new composite EJB that uses a C2 architecture which is composed of EJB components. To do this, we propose how to create a new composite EJB.

  • SGML, defined as the ISO 8879, is a meta-language to define a document type, used as basic format for electronic documents. Since an SGML document is composed of a document type definition and a document instance conforms to the definition, it is necessary for SGML document authoring tools to compose and validate document type and document instance. In present, formal models and procedures for SGML documents are not defined, it's not easy to construct such tools. We propose a model of SGML authoring tool consists of SGML parser, document type definition editor, SGML document editor and style editor. We also introduce and implement formal procedure for each component. For user convenience, we adopted icon based visual programming method, and solved the HANGUL problems. The SGML authoring tool is implemented I Windows NT system using java and C++ programming language.

  • ITA (Information Technology Architecture) satisfies the requirements of information system, supports the information used in the institution's business to guarantee the interoperability and security, and analyzes the components of information system. ITA consists of EA (Enterprise Architecture), TRM (Technical Reference Manual) and SP (Standard Profile). The SP, one of the major components of ITA, is a set of information technology standards. In this paper, to construct and utilize the ITA, we mention the applications of information technology about the SP system implementation based on the TRM. The SP management system implemented in this paper is the first trial in Korea, and designs the software with object oriented programming languages such as JSP and Java. Moreover the basic and detailed specification based on the UML notation, system design using the component and system design pattern consisting of software architectures enhance the software reusability. And the constructed system in this paper shows less maintenance cost by using the public softwares such as Linux system, Korean DBMS, Apache and Tomcat, etc. Finally, the system includes the SP reference system which is used in the other institutions and cannot be found in other institutions. Also it includes the additional diverse service modules which support the subsequent processing for the establishment and revision of standards via internet.

  • this paper, we propose a flexible, reusable, and extensible HL7 encoding and decoding framework using a Message Object Model (MOM) and Message Definition Repository (MDR). The MOM provides an abstract HL7 message form represented by a group of objects and their relationships. It reflects logical relationships among the standard HL7 message elements such as segments, fields, and components, while enforcing the key structural constraints imposed by the standard. Since the MOM completely eliminates the dependency of the HL7 encoder and decoder on platform-specific data formats, it makes it possible to build the encoder and decoder as reusable standalone software components, enabling the interconnection of arbitrary heterogeneous hospital information systems(HISs) with little effort. Moreover, the MDR, an external database of key definitions for HL7 messages, helps make the encoder and decoder as resilient as possible to future modifications of the standard HL7 message formats. It is also used by the encoder and decoder to perform a well formedness check for their respective inputs (i. e., HL7 message objects expressed in the MOM and encoded HL7 message strings). Although we implemented a prototype version of the encoder and decoder using JAVA, they can be easily packaged and delivered as standalone components using the standard component frameworks like ActiveX, JAVABEAN, or CORBA component.

  • The remote monitoring system including hemodynamic information and pump status of the implanted animal could be helpful during the in vivo experiment or clinical trial for an artificial heart Implantation. In order to monitor the course of the in vivo experiment continuously and anywhere, web-based remote monitoring system was developed, which can monitor pressures(AoP, LAP, RAP, PAP) and flow information as well as the pump operating conditions. The system consists of data sending, storing viewer part. The data sending part was constructed using component object model and the viewer part was constructed using the Java applet. In addition, the dialog box was introduced to communicate earth other instantly and the alarming function was also introduced when the hemodynamic values were out of the desired ranges. The developed remote monitoring system was applied during the in vivo experiment of the BVAD (Bi-ventricular Assist Device) implantation for 1 month and showed designed work without failure.

A Use-case based Component Mining Approach for the Modernization of Legacy Systems (레거시 시스템을 현대화하기 위한 유스케이스 기반의 컴포넌트 추출 방법)

  • Due to not only proven stability and reliability but a significant investment and years of accumulated -experience and knowledge, legacy systems have supported the core business applications of a number of organizations over many years. While the emergence of Web-based e-business environments requires externalizing core business processes to the Web. This is a competitive advantage in the new economy. Consequently, organizations now need to mine the business value buried in the legacy systems for reuse in new e-business applications. In this paper we suggest a systematic approach to mining components that perform specific business services and that consist of the legacy system's assets to be leveraged on the modem platform. The proposed activities are divided into several tasks. First, use cases that realize the business processes are captured. Secondly, a design model is constructed for each identified use case in order to integrate the use cases with the similar functionalities. Thirdly, we identify component candidates from the design model and then adjust the component candidates by considering common elements among the candidate components. And also business components are divided into three more fine-grained components to deploy them onto J2EE/EJB environments. finally, we define the interfaces of components which provide functionalities of the components as operations.

  • The OSGi platform is a Java-based component platform that is being widely used from environments for the application development to enterprise software. The OSGi platform provides dynamic and transparent installation for open environments. However, it open new attacks so that many researches try to solve OSGi vulnerability. Security flaws in OSGi platform are categorized two parts: the JVM and the OSGi platform itself. We focus on vulnerability by OSGi platform itself, particularly service injection. We identify the service injection attack and suggest secure mechanisms to prevent the attack. Those mechanisms are implemented, providing a few modification to the Knopflerfish OSGi implementation and are evaluated through comparing with existing mechanisms.

A Review on the Effectiveness of Selective Assembly by Simulation (선택조립방식의 효율성에 대한 시뮬레이션 검토)

  • Purpose: This paper compares the effectiveness of typical selective assembly criteria and suggests the most promising one. Based on the result of a computer simulation, the key issues of selective assembly are examined and the best criterion is recommended from the effectiveness perspective. Methods: Using JAVA program, production of ten thousand units for each pair of components are simulated for selective assembly of the two types. And the number of mismatching and the fraction nonconforming for each criterion are determined. Results: The best match criterion appeared to be most promising from the perspectives of both mismatching and nonconforming problems. Its effectiveness appears to be also good even when the precision of one component is different from that of the other. Conclusion: For designing an optimal method for selective assembly, the best match criterion is recommendable as the base criterion.

  • With rapid growth of internet technology, companies have developed an information system such as the electronic catalog for product data in the E-Business. Due to the heuristic nature of the catalog search for proper tools in the specific process, the intelligent and user friendly methods residing in the search process give a comfortable environment even for the beginners in the field. In this paper, we develop a web based catalog for machining tools especially in Milling process. It has two distinct procedures for the users of the catalog; Search and Analysis. The Search is to select a proper cutter, insert, component combination in the developed relational database based on the cutting process and material. The Analysis is to suggest a recommended optimal cutting conditions based on the machining tools and selected materials. All of these procedures are stored in a server with a program based on the ASP and Java Script where the procedure is initiated by the client using the internet which is accessed through insert. With the success on implementing the above engineering database in the internet, we can provide the foundation for developing PDM with heuristic procedure.
