An attenuated Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) clone SA-14-14-2(Vero) was obtained through successive adaptation of a primary cell adapted strain, SA-14-14-2(PDK) to Vero cell, a continuous line of monkey kidney cells. The virus titer reached above the 107 plaque forming unit (pfu) per mL of culture supernatant with 3 passages in Vero cells and was maintained close to this level in the further passages. The optimum temperature for the virus growth was $35^{\circ}C$. Growth pattern of the virus indicated that optimum time for the virus harvest is 4 days post infection and the virus accomplished rapid initial propagation even in medium containing no serum supplement. The roller bottle (RB) system and the spinner flask (SF) system using micro-carrier (Cytodex-1) for the JEV cultivation were explored. When RB, SF, and T-flask culture system were compared, there was no significant difference in virus yield. Furthermore, the results indicated that virus could be harvested multiple times from 3 days to 9 days post infection; neither severe cytopathic effect (CPE) in the infected cells nor the decrease in the titer was observed on duration of 9 days.
Field trials evaluating selected commercially available mosquito traps variously baited with light, carbon dioxide, and/or octenol were conducted from 18-27 September 2000 in a malarious area near Paekyeon-ri (Tongil-Chon) and Camp Greaves in Paju County, Kyonggi Province, Republic of Korea. The host-seeking activity for common mosquito species, including the primary vector of Japanese encephalitis, Culex tritaeniorhynchus Giles. was determined using hourly aspirator collections from a human and propane lantern-baited Shannon trap doting hours when temperatures exceeded $15^{\circ}C$. The total number of mosquitoes and number of each species captured during the test was compared using a block design. Significant differences were observed for the total number of mosquitoes collected, such that, the Mosquito MagnetTM with octenol > Shannon trap > ABC light trap with light and dry ice > Miniature Black Light trap (manufactured by John W. Hock) $\geq$ New Jersey Trap > ABC light trap with light only. Significant differences in numbers collected among trapes were noted for several species including: Aedes vexans (Meigen), Anopheles lesteri Baisas and Hu. An. sinensis Weidemann, An. sineroides Yamada, An. yatsushiroensis Miyazaki. Culex pipiens pallets Coquillett L., Cx. orientalis Edwards and Cx. tritaeniorhynchus. Host-seeking activity for most common species showed a similar bimodal pattern. Results from these field trap evaluations can significantly enhance current vector and disease surveillance efforts especially for the primary vector of Japanese encephalitis, Cx. tritaeniorhunchus.
Annual changes of nutrient intakes of Koreans and Japanese were compared on the basis of the data from the National Nutrition Survey which has been carried out annually in Korea (1969-1988) and in Japan (1950-1988) for the guide of the future food and nutrition policy. Intakes of all nutrients except carbohydrate and protein by Koreans were lower than those of Japanese in 1988. The intake of lipid by Koreans was less than one half of the intake by Japanese. The intake of protein has been increased to 79.2g in Korea and 91.6g in Japan, of which 49% and 52.6% were provided by the animal sources in Korea and Japan, respectively, in 1988. In terms of consumption of the energy nutrients, the percentage of carbohydrate has been decreased, while those of protein and lipid have been increased in both countries. In 1988, the ratios of energy intakes by carbohydrate, protein and lipid were 67 : 19 : 14 in Korea and 59 : 15 : 26 in Japan. Considering the desired ratio, 65 : 15 : 20, the intake of carbohydrate seems to be still high and that of lipid still low for Koreans. The food supply has been increased in both countries and the supply of animal food, oil and fat were greater in Japan than in Korea.

This study analyzed the construction pattern and historical reality of Gwallamji Pond(觀纜池) in the rear garden of Changdeokgung Palace(昌德宮), which has been received as distorted information and has not received sufficient attention. The main topics consisted of the construction period and reorganization in the pond garden, changes in the installed wooden bridge, the existence of the berthing facility, and whether the plan shape was deformed. The main results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, the Gwallamji Pond was already completed before the Gapsin Coup, which occurred in the year of King Gojong. Since then, the Gwallamji Pond area, including the surrounding facilities, has been neglected for a while and was extensively renovated in the early 1900s. It is difficult to find a clear basis for the suspension and resumption of the Gwallamji Pond construction proposed in the previous discussion. Second, three types of wooden bridges with different shapes and structures were installed sequentially in the Gwallamji Pond. In particular, the second wooden bridge, which installed after the maintenance of the Gwallamji Pond, is judged to be the pontoon bridge depicted in Donggweoldohyeong(東闕圖形), and the railing of the bridge was decorated to symbolize the imperial family of the Korean Empire. The third wooden bridge, which appeared intensively in Japanese colonial era, was a Japanese-style bridge. Third, a berth facility for boarding and disembarking existed on the eastern shore of the Gwallamji Pond. The berth facility is also described in Donggweoldohyeong and it remained until the Japanese colonial period. However, as the maintenance work of the Gwallamji Pond was carried out several times after liberation, the berth facility was gradually damaged, and there are no traces left now. Fourth, The Gwallamji Pond was originally constructed in a planar shape of the Korean Peninsula similar to the present. It is necessary to reconsider the conventional theory that the Gwallamji Pond, made in the shape of a gored-shaped bottle, was renovated in the shape of the Korean Peninsula in Japanese colonial era. Even when the term Pandoji Pond(半島池) first appeared, there was no view that the Japanese intentionally modified the Gwallamji Pond.

Long term changes in winter time(JFM) sea surface temperature(SST) and marine ecosystem of different Korean waters during last five to six decades were illustrated. Fishing intensity with climate-ocean variability(e.g. SST) have been increasing since 1970s in all of the Korean marine waters. Winter SST around Korean waters went to colder regime in early 1980s and after the late 1980s increased gradually. After 1988/89 CRS all of the waterbody started warmer regime and well coincided with the CRS phenomena. Large predatory, small pelagic and crustacean and mollusks abundance were well coincided by the warmer SST regime after 1988/89 CRS and changed the fishery from demersal fishery to pelagic fishery. Ecosystem parameter of Mean Trophic Level(MTL) showed continuous decreasing trend since mid of 1970s which was mostly affected by the increasing of lower trophic level species. Fishing in balance(FIB) index showed increasing pattern since early 1970s to the late of 1970s and from early 1980s it was almost stable until now. Finally wasp-waist population of anchovy and Japanese sardine have a greater impact to the whole MTL since early 1970s.
Contemporary topic of the culture is turning to the Nature. In this situation, The Paradigms of realization about Human body and medical science are changing. The new interpretation of the value of Health is another method of recovering the Nature. Oriental medicine has mainly dealt with health preserving idealogy in origin, and pursued it. Get out of the curing medicine, the health preserving idealogy which aims to live up to one's lifespan has been becoming the main idea of Oriental medicine. In this respect, we can extract insperation from the concept of Meebyung and preventive treatments which came from the ideas of preventive medicine in Oriental medicine. Among the researches of Meebyung in Oriental medical classics and in Oriental tri-countries, we grasped and analyzed the trends of them. In connection with the most fundamental project in Meebyung study which is to set up the concept of Meebyung, we inspected the standards which can categorize and diagnose Meebyung. In contrast with 'Ibyeong', Meebyung in Oriental medical classics can be attained from living in harmony with the Nature, four seasons, Eum-and-Yang and the Five Phases. However the classification of Meebyung, Yogbyeong, Ibyeong in medical classics made foundation of post preventive medicine. From the various studies we can find as follws. Promting national project in Meebyung, China is trying to reestablish classifications of Meebyung, as Japanese Meebyung scholars are focusing on quantitative methods. Although there are not enough research products, Korea must absorb the products of such other countries, as to categorize Meebyung through the pattern identification system of Oriental medicine, and achieve our goal of promotion of health.
In this study, we analyzed the pulse-duration, pulse-interval and peak-frequency of echolocation call in three species as Rhinolophus ferrumequinum, Pipistrellus abramus, and Myotis macrodactylus. The peak frequency and pulse duration for above mentioned species were 69 kHz, 47 kHz and 49 kHz and $69.39{\pm}8.76\;ms$, $4.95{\pm}0.77\;ms$ and $3.09{\pm}0.48\;ms$ for R. ferrumequinum, P. abramus and M. macrodactylus, respectively. The pulse intervals for R. ferrumequinum, P. abramus and M. macrodactylus were $103.61{\pm}9.05\;ms$, $67.59{\pm}3.47\;ms$ and $66.35{\pm}4.96\;ms$, respectively. The pulse pattern of R. ferrumequinum was setting into a short FM call and linked to long CF call and went through the short FM call again. The pulse pattern of M. macrodactylus was comprised with serial short FM call and the CF call was not checked up in accordance with the spectrogram analysis. The long FM call and short CF call got join together for the P. abramus and the peak frequency was checked up at the pulse ending as CF call.
By reviewing the cultural and historical literature on persimmon juice dyeing and Galot in Korea and Japan, this study aims to show the similarities and differences between the traditional and eco-friendly persimmon juice dyeing practices of these two countries and suggest a direction for the development of modern Galot. The root of persimmon dyeing in Korea is presumed to have begun around the 13th or 14th century; however, no documents or records have been found to support this notion. Meanwhile, there are records of persimmon dyeing in Japan that date back to around the 10th century, but that fact is rarely mentioned. The historical and folk cultural significance of traditional persimmon dyeing in Japan and Korea was different in terms of the use of persimmon dye and the wearing of Galot. In other words, in Korea, Galot was mainly used as work clothes for farmers and fishermen, who took advantage of the garment's functional strength, while kaki-tannin in Japan was applied to fishing tools and industrial materials. Furthermore, Japanese traditional Galot (Kakigoromo) was worn by monks. This was a remarkable difference in that the garments were used as clothing by a special class within society. There were also differences between the two countries in terms of their use of modern persimmon juice dye and Galot. Korea is currently developing and releasing a variety of modern Galots. Meanwhile, Japan is attempting to develop a feeling of relaxation by using the natural colors of Kakisibu dyeing and applying sophisticated traditional pattern printing techniques to modern Galot.
The purpose of this study is to ascertain pattern design element in traditional palaces among those in the neighboring three nations of East Asia, notably Korea, China and Japan. The basic assumption underlying this study is that these northeastern Asian states have been developed a unique inter-cultural ties over long periods of time in history, culminating in their respective design cultures. Undoubtly the ultimate goal to be pursued, by so doing, has to be inquiry into the identical prototype of Korean pattern design element. In the West, the pattern is appreciated by an aesthetic level, but the East Asian pattern is a symbolic alphabet deeply rooted in religious and folk beliefs. The difference of the respective country comes from the expression style of the pattern the Chinese express the magnificent pattern with various color, the Korean do the moderate pattern with harmonious color with the nature and the Japanese do the stylized pattern with the material color. To sum up similarities and dissimilarities among the design element in traditional palaces of Korea, China, and Japan is as the following : It is to be noticed that the mainly common characteristics of the artistic design are 'naturalism', 'harmonious ideas 'and 'confucianism'. But the representation style of the design element is differed from the country.

Today, rapid progress of urbanization is discovered commonly in many countries, especially in developing countries, which has led to spatial order and development process of city. Historically, Taegu was a walled city and formed mono-nucleus which was restricted by the castle. As the city grew gradually, the castle was removed as a result of diversification in traffic network, change of socio-economic environment, formation of industrial base and functional distribution. According to reconstruction maps of residential patterns, there was distinctive residential segregation among ethnic groups. Koreans in Taegu in 1939, aggregated densely in the southern and western parts of the city. The Japanese were concentrated densely in the northern and eastern parts of Taegu. And the street pattern within residential areas of the Korean people was shaped like a maze type in contrast with Japanese residential areas, which showed grid pattern of streets. This is another general pattern of almost all colonial cities, especially in Asia. Through this process, today it appears that, out of overall residential areas which occupy the highest ratio in urban land use, those for eminent people influence the functional development of urban spatial structure very heavily as a key point in urban residetial structure. Truly, residential segregation can be seen as the spatial manifestation of uneven distribution of such important scarce resources as housing and residential environment. In this study, the characteristics of locational distribution of the eminent people show their socially and economically stabilized standing in Taegu, taking the aforesaid situation as a background of the study. And the process of this study is as follows ; to examine the forming process of residential areas in the city as a theoretical supporting, to put in order on classical interpretation to formation of residential areas, and general type modern residential areas formation, and economic decision factor of land use. Therefore, this study aims to examine growth and development of eminent persons' residential areas and, at the same time, extract locational characteristics through the pattern of eminent persons' location and predict changes in the future.
